When you think of teams that have come a long way in the last couple of seasons, what's a team that might come to mind? For me, it's the Detroit Falcons. You don't have to look far to see how... far... the team has come in just three years. Let's explore exactly how big that jump has been, and what players have played key roles in making that development happen for the Falcons.

SEASON 62 - 14th in League (5-55-6) - 16 Points
Well, to say the least this was not the season for the Falcons. Finishing last in the league, there really wasn't many high points for this team. Akashi Sixnine Jr, in his sophomore season and coming off a 40 point rookie campaign with the Falcons, lead the team in point production with 37 points, 21 of which were goals, ranking him first on the team in both. While he may have been the lone 20 goal scorer on the Falcons this season, there were some other solid contributors like Vasily Arkhangelsky (30pts) from the blue line and Wet Jeans (29pts) being a great second line punch. Rookie goaltender Evert Jansson shouldered the worst of the season, posting a 4.39 GAA and a 90.8% save percentage.

SEASON 63 - 12th in League (20-42-4) - 44 Points
Season 63 saw some slight improvements for the Falcons as they jumped at least from the absolute bottom of the barrel into 12th place in the league, besting the Vancouver Whalers and St. Louis Scarecrows. This saw the rise of Sconnie McHits, brought in from Anaheim off of a 50 point season to strengthen the roster. McHits would contribute another 53 points for the Falcons, including a team high 26 goals. Evert Jansson improved slightly, seeing his GAA jump to 3.66 while his SV% stayed steady at 90.9%. The Falcons still had a few changes they would need to make before they could hope to contend in S64.

SEASON 64 - 2nd in League (41-17-2) - 84 Points [Current]
This season, the Falcons are looking to be an actual top tier time in contention for the Four Star Cup. While they are slightly behind the first place Berserkers, they are putting up a real fight. Sconnie McHits is really coming into their own, blowing into the 70+ points category with 72 points in 60 games thus far, including a whopping 41 goals. McHits is unquestionably a huge part of the Falcons success, but line mates Mrs. McSaves (56pts) and Akashi Sixnine Jr (54 pts) are paving the way for him. Evert Jansson (23-9-2) has been sharing time in net with sophomore Toms Zile (17-8-0) and the two are making a fighting case for the top goaltending duo in the SMJHL currently with a combined 2.38 GAA and 90.6 SV%.

All in all, the Falcons are making serious strides towards being a top tier time. If not this season though, the Falcons may be staring down the barrel of an oncoming rebuild as Sixnine and McHits age out and leave the league given the new rulechange regarding 5th year players. How this will impact Detroit will come to be seen.
