S66 SMJHL PT #4 - Pre-game Playlist
#1

At this point in the season, you should be starting to get into the groove with your teammates. But it's not all about the chemistry when you're on the ice - it's the tunes you listen to in the locker room before you get out there that really help you bond.
Written Task: List 5 songs that are on your team's pre-game playlist, and tell us why they're played (150 word min.)
Graphic Task: Design the album cover for a CD-version of your team's pre-game playlist. Has to include at least the team name and logo.
Reward
3 TPE for doing the thing. (Just one of the things, not both.)
Only S66 SMJHL Rookies (S67 SHL Draftees) are eligible for this PT.
Link PBE, WSBL, ISFL or SSL submissions here to get credit for affiliate claims.
Do not claim this TPE until a post is made in the claim thread.

  1. Knights of the round table - Monty Python soundtrack
(Its the perfect fit for our team and our goal song, gotta get used to it)
  2. Master Of Puppets - Metallica
(Ultimate rock genre pump up song, you'd be insane not to listen to it pregame)
  3. Till I Collapse- Eminem
(If this song isn't on your pregame/Gym playlist you're doing something wrong)
  4. Family Ties - Kendrick
(Newer song for us youngin's it's a pretty sick beat, Keem and Lamara go off and its inspiring asf,)
  5. Energy- Drake
(Gives you that no ones gonna take anything away from me mentality!)

Being a rookie I don't get to DJ the room that often, but when I do, my top five playlist goes something like this:

1) Drowning Pool - Let the Bodies hit the floor!
When you need to get pumped up for a physical confrontation, or just driving the opposition through the fence! This is your ticket.

2) LMFAO ft. Lil Jon - Shots!
Whether it's the closed fist variety or a heavy slap from the point, some body gonna get tagged after listening to this!

3) Beastie Boys - (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right! (To Party)
A constant reminder there ain't nothing free. If you wanna feel good, you gotta fight for your right to party!

4) Tom Cochrane - Big League!
The quintessential hockey song. A poetic reminder of what it took to get here and what it'll take to stay!

5) AC/DC - Thunderstruck!
What playlist would be complete without the thunder from down under? Pure classic!

Honorable Mention: Tom Petty - I Won't Back Down!
A little more mellow than the rest, but in the words of Commander Taggart: "Never give up, never surrender!"

1. Drake – Massive
I think this is pretty self explanatory. No playlist is complete without a song from Drake. I think this being one of his newest songs and being an absolute banger, you gotta throw this one in here before a game.
2. Steve Aoki & Willy William – Mambo (feat Sean Paul, El Alfa, Sfera Ebbasta & Play-N-Skillz)
Nothing like a little EDM/Latin music to spice things up. This just gets the hips moving, keeps everyone lose, but also has that more aggressive, pump up feeling of an EDM song. Another one you can’t go wrong with.
3. Steve Aoki, Daddy Yankee, Play-N-Skillz & Elvis Crespo – Azukita
Literally the same reason as Mambo above, another absolute banger, get’s everyone going.
4. Jax Jones & MNEK – Where Did You Go?
This is an easy song to really get singing to and feeling, a little more low key and more of a deep house vibe, but still an unbelievable song to get going before the game starts.
5. ABBA – Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
An absolute CLASSIC. This song has resurfaced from it’s early glory days and is still an unbelievable tune that everyone knows and can sing along to. You can’t not like this song, and if you wanna spice things up, find a remix and you’re already ahead of the game compared to the other team.

The Armada kind of have a nautical theme going in the pregame playlist. There's really no rhyme or reason to it but here it is anyway.

1. In the Navy by the Village People. A fun song that gets people moving during pregame stretches. It also talks about protecting the motherland which is particularly apt for home games. And with so many different characters in the locker room just like so many different characters in the Village People there's a kind of symmetry there.

2. Rock the Boat by the Hues Corporation.  Another disco type mover, Rock the Boat also means turning things up a notch physically at the home arena.

3. Boat Drinks by Jimmy Buffet. This team likes to party and after a big win the team likes to have a few adult beverages. Boat drinks means it's time to party and let loose if we get that W.

4. Orinoco Flow by Enya. Catchy electronic pop tune that gets everyone's feet tapping. Sail away sail away sail away.

5. Proud Mary by Ike and Tina Turner or CCR. Even though a riverboat isn't exactly an armada it's still a boat and this song really gets the blood pumping and the mood revved up.

Coming over from Ireland, O’Connall’s taste in music is questionable to say the least. Below were the five most played songs from the season so far

1. Miseria Cantare by AFI

Although he has no idea what is being said, O’Connall is here for the vibe as this is usually the last track that is listened to before heading out to warmups. A perfect slow rising introduction song is exactly what he needs before he heads out to be the third line pairing.

2. Levels by Avicii

O’Connall is about a decade late to this trend and popular hockey song, but we’re glad he discovered it. Get hyped!

3. Zombie by The Cranberries

What to say about this one? The Irish love their Cranberries and it appears on the list. Not much more to dive into than that.

4. Hollywood Perfect by Unknown Brain and NotEvenTanner

O’Connall might be slightly confused on where Hollywood was when he first came over to Yukon, but it’s still one of the initial songs he threw on once drafted. Let’s not burst his bubble.

5. I’m Shipping up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys

Usually played to amp up before the game, this one gets O’Connall going. However, it’s pretty soon that he realizes he needs to switch to something else, because the song puts him in a fighting mood. Problem is he’s barely been a pool noodle fight, let alone a hockey scrap.

There you have it, the top five songs played by Shea O’Connall. This list might change by the time the season is over, and we’re hearing that The Kid LAROI and girl in red are climbing on the list. Interesting choices by the young Irish lad.

Ride the Lightning - Metallica, this song was such an easy choice, even though our team has absolutely nothing to do with lightning or storms or any sort of natural disaster, the opening thirty seconds of this song could get any team ready to slam opponent’s into the boards. Legally of course.

Hallowed be thy Name - Iron Maiden, this song is what I personally listen to and imagine myself entering the ice with it blasting through the stadium speakers. Again, it’s all about the opening, a gentle but knowing buildup into something truly metal.

Jump Around - House of Pain, this is definitely a song we listen to right before we head out onto the ice, get our blood pumping, and if we end up winning the game, it also makes for a great post-game locker room celebration song.

Eye of the Tiger - Survivor, I think every team might listen to this one. Rocky is an inspiration to us all, and this song from Rocky 3 gets everyone in the locker room locked in and like Apollo Creed said,  “you got that eye of the tiger, man” we all got that eye of the tiger.

Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond, with how many Boston Bruins fans there are on this team, this one is an easy easy choice for team bonding. We all sing this one together at the top of our lungs, sorry to anyone’s eardrums who are listening.

Written Task: List 5 songs that are on your team's pre-game playlist, and tell us why they're played (150 word min.)

Song #1: Brass Bonanza.

Come on now folks. This is what you hear every time you walk into the arena. This is blasting through the walls so loud that the visitors can hear it in the showers. The fans love it, the players love it, you love it. I love it the most, though. Historic, important, and absolutely rocking.

Song #2: Drunken Sailor

This one is on there for the history as well. Also it helps to sing along with it to try to shake off your team's collective hangover.

Song #3: Under the Sea

Right out of The Little Mermaid's soundtrack, this song gets everyone in a nice playful mood to help remind us that this is just a game.

Song #4: The Ocean

A nice and pleasant old school hard rock song to shake things up. While still remaining on topic.

Song #5: Kiss from a Rose

Just kidding, you start this one and then about 15 seconds in, switch back to Brass Bonanza to close it out and get your boys pumped for some Whalers action.

Just a Girl - No Doubt
This is a classic that should get anyone in the mood to take on the world. It does wonders in the locker room to get the boys ready to run through a wall.

How Am I Suppose To Live Without You - Michael Bolton
A sad love song might not be on anyone else’s pre-game playlist but sometimes you need a little bit of heartbreak before the game to get you motivated.

You Might Think He Loves You for Your Money but I Know What He Really Loves You for It's Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat - Death Grips
This song just sounds like a bunch of random noise which is just perfect to tune out the haters.

Cut the Check (feat. Chief Keef) - Mac Miller
This is probably the only real hype song that is included in this playlist and no one does it better than the legends, Mac Miller and Chief Keef.

34+35 - Ariana Grande
This song is just a personal favorite for Nino Di Giuseppe and having it played in the locker room was a key clause in his contract.

1. STATS - Baby Keem

This song has a ton of energy and has a dark and loud beat, perfect for getting the team pumped before a game. This song is makes us want to gather up some "STATS".

2. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO

Who doesn't love Party Rock Anthem? This song is somehow both terrible and amazing at the same time and everyone knows it. Sorry for party rockin bruh

3. Dreams and Nightmares - Meek Mill

Absolute classic pregame banger: it is just as good and inspiring as it was the first time every time you hear it. No pregame playlist is complete without it.

4. Under the Sun - Dreamville, J. Cole, Lute, DaBaby

Uplifting, filled with energy and had 3 great verses along with a hook by Kendrick Lamar. DaBaby gives probably his best verse on this song, love this song.

5. JUGGERNAUT - Tyler, The Creator, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharell Williams

This song is loud, fun, and hard as hell. No other way to put it. Makes me wanna be a juggernaut out there on the ice.

#1 Ligature Marks by Meshuggah
First on the list is a bit of a build up. It's heavy, syncopated, and a little slow. We want to start low on our build up to gametime. This is the kind of song you can bob your head to while you thousand yard stare across the locker room at your teammates.

#2 Paranoid Bulldozer Italiano by Igorrr
Number two is another build up, but the buildup should complete to a pretty decent level. We have droning distorted guitar and drum and bass, and a few different genres tossed in to keep it fresh. The screaming is nonsensical so as to not distract the players.

#3 Contempt of Cop by Sunami
If there's anything the vancouver whalers are, it's anti-cop. Now that we're at a pretty decent level, we need a little bit of variance as well as some lyrics to hold onto to really get the blood going. It's beat down type of music, but more a little more punk and not processed very heavily in the studio.

#4 Forgiver Forgetter by Defeater
The bass and chug takes a back seat to the hardcore / punky rhythms of domestic violence. Forgiver Forgetter is about finally taking that bottle of jack to your old man's head after years of physical abuse. You dont need to hate your dad to let this song boil your blood and get you in the fighting mood.

#5 Cha Cha Slide by Mr. C
Finally, after we've raised the intensity as far as it will go, there's only one song in the universe that can get us ready to battle. The cha cha slide is a straight up banger and if you disagree you can get out of my face.
