It’s time to make some money, and write about hockey or something, whatever. Join me on this journey as we explore what happened to the S63 SHL Draft Class, also known as the Draft that I was taken in. We’ll be looking at the Top 10 picks from this draft and do a bit of where are they now kind of thing, how they did in their first season, how they compared to their peers, you know fun stuff. Please keep in mind this isn’t supposed to bring anyone down or make people feel bad, this is just for looking at where we are now and how we did in our first season of play. Think of it as a school reunion of sorts, just hockey instead of awkwardly meeting in your high school gym to find out no one has really done anything with their lives and the city is just as sad as when you left for university. Sorry, got carried away there for a second. Now I will say that as I began looking at stats and trying to find players some players did not appear in the S66 SHL data sheets so I have no idea what happened to them. All statistics and data are taken from the SHL Index which can be found here by searching up the player in question. Points, plus/minus, and some other stats will be the primary things that will be looked at and compared for this piece. I’ll probably also write about where the player was taken, and if they should’ve been taken higher or lower and maybe a little write up on their year and all that fun stuff.
1. Lias Ekholm-Gunnarsson drafted by Winnipeg Aurora. – Lias’ first full season with Winnipeg resulted in 14 Goals, 38 Assists for a 52 point season with a plus/minus of +7. I saw first full season because in S65 Lias was called up for 10 games producing 4 points, but that’s not what we’re focusing on. Honestly this is a pretty good first season for Lias 2. Bodhi Utah drafted by Manhattan Rage – Unfortunately Bodhi’s stats were unavailable and after doing some research, Leoben the person behind the player, had to step back from their player in order to take care of some real-life stuff. Hope you’re doing well Leoben and hopefully we’ll see you in the league again soon. 3. Sisyphus Embros drafted by Tampa Bay Barracuda – Unfortunately much like Bodhi, Sisyphus’ stats were not available and could not be found. Not sure what happened to Sisyphus/SabresFan. I hope they’re doing okay too. 4. Tim Riggins drafted by Montreal Patriotes. Tim is actually killing it in the league. His first full season was S65 where they produced 9 Goals, 10 Assists for a 19 point season with a plus/minus of -55. In S66 Tim scored 16 Goals, 24 Assists for a 40 point season with a 0 as their plus/minus, which is pretty good for their second season. Tim will be a staple for this Montreal for years to come. Great things will come to this man or women. 5. Ergo Nomic drafted by Toronto North Stars. Traded to Baltimore Platoon. In Ergo’s first season with Baltimore, they produced only 11 assists for the team with a plus/minus of -23. Now you may be thinking that’s not great but it’s good to know the Ergo Nomic is a defenseman so their main priority may not necessarily be offense, as they were able to produce 43 takeaways while only have 7 giveaways which is a great stat for a defenseman. When compared points wise to other defense taken in the draft after Ergo Nomic, the question does get raised if Baltimore could’ve done better by trading for someone else. 6. San-sam Emerson drafted by Philadelphia Forge. S66 was not San-sam’s first full season with The Forge, but S65 was so that’s fun. In their first season (S65) with The Forge San-sam produced 9 Goals and 26 Assists for a 35 point season with a plus/minus of +20. They were able to follow up in S66 with 5 Goals, 17 Assists for a 22 point season with a plus/minus of -6. San-sam has been solid for The Forge with many years ahead of them for continued growth and improvement. 7. Rand al’Thor drafted by San Francisco Pride traded to Edmonton Blizzard and now my GM (spoilers). A former teammate of mine and I guess he’s my teammate again and my general manager. Mr. al’Thor played his first full season in S66 finishing with 12 Goals, 13 Assists for a 22 point season with a plus/minus of -87. Now again it is important to point out that Mr. Rand is a defenseman and these stats may not accurately how well of a season he actually had. If we look at Rand’s giveaways and takeaways, we’ll see he was a monster on defense with only 12 giveaways and 68 takeaways. Dudes’ nasty. 8. Valters Denisova drafted by Edmonton Blizzard traded to Montreal Patriotes. Hey look! Another former teammate of mine. Valters first full seasons also came in S66 where he recorded 17 Goals, 30 Assists for a 47 point season with a plus/minus of -6. His 47 points put him in second points wise from this top ten which is pretty dope if you ask me. Valters is going to be a player to watch for years to come as he also continues to develop and get better as a player. 9. Sam Azjha drafted Baltimore Platoon – yet another player who when I try to find stats and information on, nothing appears for the S66 SHL data. I hope they are doing well too and I hope everything is going well for them. 10. Buck Keithley aka Me drafted by Minnesota Monarchs traded to Edmonton Blizzard. My first full season was once again S66 much like many others here. In my first season I managed to get 17 Goals and 11 Assists for 28 points on the season with a plus/minus of -67. All in all a pretty decent season I’d say. Lots to improve upon and I have a new opportunity to do so with Edmonton. So what did we learn? We’re a pretty good draft class with lots to grow on. We’ll all be exciting players to watch in the coming seasons and hopefully all of us will be able to life the Cup at some point. Now for a fun little bit. We’ll be “redrafting” the top 10 from that draft class. Now a few things to get clear before we start. If a team drafted a forward, defenseman or a goalie that will not change because it would be too hard to figure out something different. For the players who had no S66 or a full season of stats we’ll venture into the top 15 to see who would have been drafted had these teams known those players would not play. Obviously we’ll be using the S66 stats since that’s when the majority of players had their first season of play in the SHL 1. Winnipeg Aurora – Ivan Lackasamus: 54 points total – Originally drafted #11 2. Manhattan Rage – Lias Ekholm-Gunnarsson: 52 points total – Originally drafted #1 3. Tampa Bay Barracuda – Lesgo Brandon: 50 points total – Originally drafted # 14 4. Montreal Patriotes – Valters Denisova: 47 points – Originally drafted #8 5. Toronto North Stars – Rand al’Thor: 25 points, 12/68 GA/TA – Originally drafted #7 6. Philadelphia Forge – San-Sam Emerson: 22 points, 14/50 GA/TA – Originally drafted #6 7. San Francisco Pride – Ergo Nomic: 11 points, 7/43 GA/TA – Originally drafted #5 8. Edmonton Blizzard – Tim Riggins: 40 points total – Originally drafted #4 9. Baltimore Platoon – Buck Keithley: 28 points total – Originally drafted #10 10. Minnesota Monarchs – Mrs. McSaves: 27 points total – Originally drafted #13 So that would be the S63 draft redrafted based on point totals for forwards and points plus giveaways/takeaways for defense. The biggest jump in this draft comes from Lesgo moving up from 14th pick to 3rd pick an increase of 11. The biggest drop in the draft goes to Tim, sorry Tim. They only dropped down 4 places but that’s still a decent size drop. So, there you have it. A class in review. Best of luck to this group of ballers, or puckers I guess since we play hockey. Any puckers in the chat? Honestly, I don’t think we can take away too much from this since it’s just a review piece with no real in-depth analysis. Besides this league is based off of randomly generated numbers so there’s no way of telling who would do how well and what this order would look like if you ran the simulation through the season another 10 or so times, sure trends might emerge but there’s really no way of telling what would be the same or what would be different. What we also can’t account for is how the tactics used by the team that drafted these players affect how the players did and as well as the players that played alongside these rookies. All of those factors play their own role in determining how these players did and what their stats looked like at the end of the season. So here’s another fun information for you. If one other player from the top 10 or 15 of this draft retired this would have allowed Chris McZehrl to enter into this redraft. McZehrl was drafted 15th overall and his first full season was in S66 and he ended his season with 17 Goals, 25 Assists for a 42 point season with a plus/minus of -7. With these stats he should’ve been drafted at #8 according to the redraft. Actually, I’m Curious now how 16-20 did in this draft Dave Heinrich was drafted 16th overall and his first full season was S66. Heinrich ended the season with 24 Goals, 38 Assists for a 62 point season with a plus/minus of +34. If he was included in the redraft he would’ve been taken #1 based on how he preformed this season. Evert Jansson was drafted 17th overall and the only goalie taken in the first round of the S63 draft. The draft wouldn’t have affected where he was taken in the redraft since I used the rule of whatever position was taken the same position would be selected in the redraft. Now unfortunately picks 18-20 of this draft don’t have any stats listed for S66 so I can only assume that they have all retired and have gone on to recreate or take a break from this. I guess we’ll never know how they would’ve done in this draft class. It’s crazy to think how much would change if we knew how well these players would do and if we knew which players were going to still be around. Thanks for joining me on this reunion journey and for taking the time to read this, I hope you enjoyed it and were able to get something from it, whatever that may be. If you’ve managed to read this far congratulations this part really adds nothing to the topic previously discussed but instead gives you an insight into me. As I wrote this piece, I mainly listened to drum play throughs of different songs, like Matt Gartska of Animals as Leaders playing Red Miso. So crisp, so clean. Or Daniel Furnari of Polaris playing Hypermania, dude goes hard on this song. Even listening to Kyle Brownlee of Counterparts (Canadian!) play Wings of Nightmares. I did also listen to songs such as the new Counterparts single Whispers of Your Death, great song. The whole music video is a cat sitting on a chair and the song is about said cat, so yeah that’s a win win in my books. I also listen to the new Stray From The Path album (banger!) that releases later in September I picked up at their show with The Devil Wears Prada in Toronto recently. So yeah, that’s a bit about me and what I do when I write these long pieces so I can get paid some money to buy hockey cards. I mean to pay for training and stuff. ![]() ![]() ![]() SHL GM Admiral of the Data Seas ![]() SHL GM Professor of Baldeconomics

Hi, BAP GM here, I can offer some insight.
Ergo Nomic went IA, and I signed her as a free agent for last season (didn't trade any assets for her). Also I have context on the other BAP pick (9ov). I wasn't GM yet, but there's a reason you couldn't find what you were looking for. Happy to talk 1:1 about it in a non-public place. --- Sidebar: the less you ask about SabresFan, the better. ![]() Registered Senior Member |
