S69 SMJHL Postseason Bonanza
#1
(This post was last modified: 02-26-2023, 09:12 PM by Jayba1t. Edited 4 times in total.)

The S69 SMJHL Playoffs have begun, and it is time for Postseason Bonanza!

Wait! What's this?

Here's how PB will work: there are several tasks, each of which is worth varying amounts of TPE for putting in a little effort, for a maximum of 16 possible TPE total. You can mix and match, complete them in any order and do as few or as many as you would like (up to 16 TPE). Recreates, you will find this slightly different than CW.

Here's how TPE will be earned:

For every 50 words you write about a prompt, you will earn 1 TPE. That scales on, so 100 words for 2 TPE150 words for 3 TPE, etc. If you wanted to 800 words about one prompt, that would be 16 TPE right then and there.

The graphics TPE scale has remained the same.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you can, please after every prompt you write about add a Word Count (ie. 159 words). This will greatly help the PT Team!

ONLY S69 SMJHL ROOKIES (S70 SHL DRAFTEES) CAN EARN TPE FOR CW TASKS. If you signed after the trade deadline and are going into the S70 SMJHL Draft, this TPE is not for you.

You may claim affiliation from an (one, 1) ISFL, PBE or SSL PT this season for a max of 3 TPE.

For those who have a CW pass that will apply for Postseason Bonanza.

Deadline: Monday, March 6th at 11:59PM PST

Without further ado, here are our prompts!

TEAM PROMPTS

Code:
1. Fan Appreciation Day
Your team is giving back to their supporters by holding a fan appreciation day for one of their games, where the team will hand out a special commemorative item to show thanks for their continued support of the franchise. You have been tasked to design the product to be given out to the attendees (can be a rally towel, foam finger, bobble head, etc.) Write a blurb about the item, including details on during which game was / will be given out.

Code:
2. Looking Towards the Future
As we near the end of S69, the SMJHL draft will be happening soon. Going into next season, what are your team's biggest needs and areas of strength? Do any holes need to be filled with call-ups? Do you have a position that is incredibly stacked? Give us all an overview of your team, from top to bottom.

Code:
3. Secret Plans
It’s never too early to start thinking about how you’re going to gain a competitive edge next season! How is your team going to go the extra mile to get wins next season? Is it a secret training regimen? Sneaky equipment modifications? Booby trapping the visiting teams’ locker room? Anything goes.

Code:
4. Funtimes
You have been designated as the team's official Fun Director! Now, everyone is looking for some sort of fun activity where you all can spend an afternoon or day to chill, hang out and build some team spirit. Especially after a long and stressful season, what are your plans to ensure everyone has a great time?

Code:
5. Superlatives
Every team will always have that really funny/annoying/quirky player and personality. However, usually they can be the ones that really make sure the team gels together nicely. Come up with yearbook style superlatives to describe some of your fellow teammates.

Code:
6. Team History
I know history isn't everyone's favorite thing to discuss, but a team's past can really define its identity, what its known for and who they are in the present. Tell us about your team's past! Have there been any franchise defining moments that are integral to your team or even SHL history? Conversely, is there some interesting tidbit that not many around the league know?

PLAYOFF PROMPTS

Code:
7. Winner Winner Chicken
At the end of the day, what we all really strive for is the Four Star Cup. It takes everyone's best efforts, an unrelenting determination to win and hard work to be able to hoist the glorious trophy. Out of the 12 teams in playoffs, who do you think will win the 4 Star Cup? Are you going for the clear favorites, or the underdogs? Give reasons to justify your prediction.

Code:
8. An Alternate Timeline
If you weren't playing for your current team, which team would you most like to be playing for in the playoffs.  Explain why you chose that team and how you think you'd slot into their roster.  Would your player make a big impact on the team?  Would you improve their chances of winning a cup?

Code:
9. What's in a Name?
A player name is the first of many steps that mark the start of a new SHL career. From meme names, real life references and parodies of hockey players, there are a wonderful assortment of names that can be found throughout the league. Which player(s) have the best name and why?

Code:
10. In the Zone
Some players are excellent in the regular season, however there are a certain few that really elevate their play in the playoffs. The pressure and the thought of winning it all really benefits some, while others just have that natural clutch factor, with a knack of showing up at the right times. Write about players who have been crucial to their team, or players that could be in contention for Playoffs MVP.

Code:
11. A 6 Star Show
Make a dream team of players from any team in the playoffs, with 3 forwards, 2 defenseman and a goalie, and give an explanation for each pick. It could be the best team ever, or alternative maybe the worst?

INDIVIDUAL PROMPTS

Code:
12. On the Radar
Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S69 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?

Code:
13. Superstitious
In the NHL there’s a well known superstition that any team that touches their conference championship trophy won’t win the Stanley Cup. Are there any superstitions like that in the SMJHL playoffs? If so, what are they? Where do they come from? Does your player believe in them? Why or why not?

Code:
14. R&R
It's almost officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make it past the first round of the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. Tell us how you're spending your time this offseason, whether it be with family or friends.

Code:
15. Charity Drive
Professional hockey players are among the luckiest members of a community, but not everyone is given the same opportunities. As such, many players are expected to give back to the community by volunteering their time and energy off the ice with various charitable organizations. Write about a charity or event that your player helped out with.

Code:
16. Goals
Although your career may still be in its early stages, it's still a great time to think about the future. What are some goals you have for your career, or some personal goals for the site? Are you striving for a HOF induction? Getting a site job?

Code:
17. Feedback
For recreates, how was doing this new version of CW compared to the old one? Was the experience better, or worse? How were the PT changes? For first gens, you can also talk about your experiences with PTs in general too this season!

Code:
18. Milestones
You will have the opportunity to cover up to 3/16 TPE with milestones relating to your player's performance/accolades during the season. Link your post in the Milestones thread and post your comment in your CW reply to claim. They will come soon!

During the last home game vs the Maine Timber, we passed out an actual team-branded hatchet at the door to each and every fan. Once the fans got to their seat there was a log from trees that were chopped down from the state of Maine. The fans were suggested that every time the Zerks score the fans would start chopping their wood. A lot was riding on this game... if the Zerks lost things could get ugly and everyone would have a weapon in hand. The Zerks did end up winning, however the promotion was a slight failure as Newfoundland only won 1-0 only making the fans chop once.

I believe I ended my season well above that of my half-brother Shorsey Wobet. Do I want to win championships? Yes. Do I want to be in the Hall of Fame? Who wouldn’t? But there is only one thing I truly desire. The only thing that drives my career and passion... and that is being better than Shorsey. Growing up he was always the one in the spotlight, being a forward. He got the goals, the girls, and the glamour. I was the one who did his dirty work and got no love. I can’t guarantee next year will be the same on my hard work alone… So over the offseason, I plan on inviting him over for a post-season dinner celebration. But I’m going to gaslight him into thinking we are going to turn a new leaf; be the loving brother we once were before. Convince him to fire his agent, that may be the SHL isn’t for him. He should take up World Class Knitting as it suits his skillset better. He will doubt me, obviously, but I must play the long con. I have taken a lot of classes over the season on being a more charismatic person. Even if it takes all season, and next season, or even our final season in the juniors… I am going to get Shorsey to retire early then I can prove once and for all that I am the best Wobet. Just please don’t tell anyone I just said all that.

Mit Wobet, Fun Director. Now that has a nice ring to it. First order of business, every Monday we will do a team-building dinner on the Newfoundland organization’s dime, since if the players had to pay that would be deemed NO FUN by me, the fun director. If there is a game on Monday, then the dinner will fall on a subsequent day. After dinner, the team will then go on a fun team-building trip to the local watering hole, depending on what city we are currently in. Of course, all on the organization’s bankroll. As if a player had to pay it would be deemed NO FUN. Tuesday’s will be used for full recovery. Any sort of job, practice, or anything will be deemed, you guessed it, NO FUN. And if the after-dinner party lasted too long the recovery may extend into Wednesday. We may lose a lot of games this way…

It’s time for Matiss Ozolinsh to step up to the occasion and lead his Berserker squad deep into a playoff run. Matiss started off incredibly hot this season and led the league in Goals for the majority of the first half. Of course, everyone knows of the record-breaking season that Cale Salad has put together at this point. While all eyes will be on the likes of Salad, Newman, and Jarovsky – Ozolinsh is in a great position to steal the spotlight.
Billed as a dark horse, the Berserkers have quietly built upon a strong start and finished a solid regular season. They’ve had a strong defensive presence that backed up the firepower behind Ozolinsh and Kennedy. And Ozolinsh has been quite clutch, always scoring when the team needs him to. He also has the team high of 6 GWG, also tied with O’Bigbers.
This is Ozolinsh’s final season in the Juniors and he is going to want to stamp his legacy before he moves on to New England and the SHL. And there is no better way to do that than to tap into greatness and not only win a Four Star Cup but also take the Playoff MVP as well.

Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S68 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?

Mit Wobet is a top-end Offensive D-man in the upcoming S70 Draft. His junior scouting profile had him with a nice strong shot but he lacked awareness defensively. During his first year in the juniors, Wobet has rounded out his skills on the defensive side of the puck and has become less of a liability than he was earlier in the season. The rate of improvement has SHL scouts excited about Mit’s potential. It also helps that Wobet is part of a strong Newfoundland organization that has a solid track record of developing its players. I rank Wobet as a Round 1 pick, with a strong playoff performance I could see him picked in the top 10.

Grizzlies vs Yukon, Was extremely fun for the fans because they were able to see the Latreille brothers go at it. So for this game, the teams handed out Plushies of the Latreille’s, They were these small stuffed animals one being a bear and the other being a malamute but they were wearing #68 for josh (Yukon) and #88 for Kyle (Grizzlies).
The brothers stayed after the game to do some signatures for the fans, It was a great experience for the whole organization.
The players from both teams played a hard game but a respectful one at the same time, Showing that the organizations respect each other as equals. The players from both teams were signing jerseys and any other items they wanted to be signed.
The captains shared a nice conversation at center ice before the game started it was great to see. Thank you Yukon for joining us to do this today we really appreciate it.

I wanna try and focus on upgrading my ability to score and on a consistent level, i don’t want 2 goals one and none for 4 games i wanna stay more consistent and be able to score a goal every other game or so, Aswell as improving my ability to play multiple positions since not being able to take faceoffs might become an issue in the future when i get put Center for example, Or just the odd faceoff i take as a winger. Offence isn’t all i need to work on, My physical ability needs some work aswell as my defence both could use some improving and will help advance my player forwards.

Looking at our players we do have some that might be heading up to the SHL either after playoffs or the year after so we gonna need to start filling in those positions aswell as the depth we still need for example we could use 1 or 2 defensemen depending on who goes up or not so it’s really a matter of time to see who takes the leap forward and gets the call.
Knowing our goalie could get the call any minute it wouldn’t be a bad idea to look around for one who will stay active and help us with our goals.

Everyone was having a good time laughing, drinking and sharing some great stories, Being able to relax with the team and my family was really enjoyable and took the stress away right away. Being with them showed that it’s more than a sport, it’s about the people you meet along the way and who you really connect with, That’s what truly matters. I believe the grizzlies are one of the stronger teams this season they closed out 4th but their last 15 ish games went really well they were able to jump from 9th to 4th. We showed a very strong finish and believe this will give us an edge going into playoffs. Nam Hoang has proven to be a top point scorer finishing strong with 87 points in 66 games, Showing everyone especially the team that he’s ready, This is what he’s been waiting for, His time to prove himself. Our core has proven to be very strong as well as depth we have good depth on offence and it’s also solid on defence so now it’s just about putting us to the test to see if we can come out on top.

To start this off we’ll be taking a deeper look at rookie Kyle Latreille. Now i know this doesn’t happen over night you can’t just make everyone respect you but you can show them why they should respect you, By just showing them respect you’ll get respect back. I wanna try and make a name for myself around the league (in a good way) i want to be well respected wether it’s because of my build or because of what i’ve done, I wanna try getting involved with some jobs as i’ve already started applying to some to see if my name gets the call, I’ve really been focusing this season on maximizing my players tpe as well as getting my money and name up.

The Colorado Raptors would be eager to give back to the community that supports the team through thick and thin and in order to commemorate that support, the team would hit the Colorado streets in a food truck and hand out free Dino-Nuggest, made by the raptors players. Fans of the team obviously could use this opportunity not only to score free food but get their memorabilia signed, by the roster. On top of all that, at their next home game the raptors would place a balloon, filled with cut out team stickers, at each seat. So that the fans could show off their loyalty with these Colorado Raptor branded stickers.

For the Raptors it is all about nutrition, each season is a grueling test of endurance, that can't be taken lightly. To ensure the athletes function at the best of their ability, not only the training but also the nutrition that is used to sustain that training must be carefully evaluated. This is why the raptors have now turned to a secret strategy which has yet to be made public. It involves an air frier and copious amounts of Dino nuggets, but nothing more can be said, the raptors facilities truly are the peak of sports nutrition. All drinks in the building have also been replaced with a *prime* choice unnamed drink, that mutilates thirst and has electrolytes. Lastly, obviously all players are from now on mandatorily given brain function enhancing pills.

Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S69 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?
Grisha Uskjal has entered the league via waiver system, and just as he flew under the radar back then, he continues to do so now. A year is a small sample size and sadly there is little footage of Uskjals previous career publicly available, therefore one should be careful not to jump to conclusion, but Uskjal has seemed to be making steady improvements to his game and began growing into becoming a positive factor for the Colorado Raptors. Uskjal does not stand out in any individual metric, but he does fill the scoresheet consistently, racking up both offensive and defensive stats. This is also where Uskjal so far seems to distinguish himself the most from other rookies, he is a fast player with a solid defensive skill set which allows him to keep up with the puck carrier and pester him. Uskjal also is a willing shot blocker which certainly adds some value for his team, but so far he could not transition this aspect of his physicality into landing bigger and riskier hits, he rather prefers to rely on stick checking his opponent. His biggest weakness as a defender is his inexperience, he simply often still fails to make reads that other veteran players make quite easily, which leads to holed opening up in the Colorado defense. Uskjal also is in the top 10 SHTOI, but his team has struggled significantly over the course of this season when shorthanded, which is to a large part his responsibility. As a journalist, it appears Uskjal has the physical gifts to blossom into a outstanding defensive forward, if given the time to learn about the game.Offensively Uskjal has a lot of developing to do. In his first season he wasn't able to crack the 40 point mark and only barely achieved 10 Goals over the course of the season. With 7,9% his shooting has been atrocious and even if he already is a net positive on defense, this complete lack of offensive efficiency makes it hard for his team to keep up with their opponents. Obviously his physical abilities also allow him to get into a few good positions which so far Uskjal has been decent at converting into assist, but it is clear he is not a natural scorer and will most likely always remain a defense first type of player. While to many, his lack of scoring potential and defensive mindset might be a red flag, it appears to stem from a wish to help his teams in whatever way Uskjal can. In recent interviews and through insights into the locker room it seems Uskjal is an eager rookie willing to learn and put his team before himself, which while it might compromise his individual performances, might be something that potential Teams could look for.All in all, Uskjal is by no means a top prospect but rather a solid late round pick who might one day blossom into a good role player if given the right coaching to build up his offensive arsenal and round out his defensive capabilities. A team which has abundant scoring options and rather is in need of a hustle type player would be a solid fit.

Uskjal is a very focused player, to him superstitions are distractions, but he does attempt to follow a routine to ensure he is always perfectly prepared for each match. This preparation begins a long time ahead of the game. After a large game day meal lunch, Uskjal takes an extended nap. When he wakes up he showers, drives to the rink and gets on the ice for a quick skate. He then goes back to the locker room to catch up with his arriving teammates, before putting in headphones and going for some solo shooting drills. After that, the team centered warm up starts and Uskjal obviously participates in that. So all in all it is fair to say he has a routine but it would be wrong to call him superstious

Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S69 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?

With the SHL majors draft approaching it's time to have a look at right wing for the Vancouver Whalers where you'll find Jeff Lewis. Lewis is more of a sniper type of player who is heavily focusing on his sniper abilities such as puck handling and offensive read but has also taken on some more defensive minded skills as well.

He has really worked on his ability to get open while in the offensive zone and where he reads the offensive play quite well. If he gets the puck on his stick he shoots with lethal accuracy and has so far found a knack for scoring in his first season in the minors.

Despite his scoring ability, he isn't afraid to pick up assists as well as he is generally not a puck hog and has really worked on his passing abilities so look for him to also add some assists to his goal totals often faking his strong shot and forcing the goalie to over compensate while dishing off a pass to an open teammate.

Part of what makes his play special is his ability to win the puck battles. He has a fantastic defensive read allowing him to often be is a great position to pick off passes. When in one on one battles for the puck he is also strong on stick checking. Very tenacious on the puck and not afraid to get his body into the play despite not really training for hitting he did have a great showing this season with 156 hits which had him third on the team for total hits.

He played for the Whalers who had a pretty disappointing season finishing with the third worst record in the league. While that was not great for the team it did allow the rookies on the team much more ice time giving them time to hone their skills and develop with all that time in play. While this helped him lead the team in goals and points (and finish first in rookie goal scoring) this could also reflect on his statistics when joining a major team as he won't be starting off on the top two lines most likely and therefore reducing his time on ice.

Lewis has not expressed an interest in any particular team in the SHL. He is wide open to playing for any team whether it's a top tier team or one rebuilding. He is pretty flexible when it comes to this and really just wants to make an impact for whatever team chooses him. He has often stated that both ends of the spectrum offer exciting opportunities and whatever happens he will be ready to keep working on being the best player he can be.

In addition to his play in games, he is very strict about his training time. He hasn't missed any training windows since he joined the league and was picked up off of waivers. We don't expect that to change much at all and you should see him maximize his training time to continue growing as a player so any team worried about potential shouldn't be worried about this. Perhaps his only drawback in this area is earnings. Outside of his contract, he's working on finding other sources of income to supplement his training with and this should eventually be sorted out.

He's a pretty good locker room guy. Perhaps a little quiet at first but is definitely one to get involved and is really looking forward to having a team pick up his majors rights so he can have another team of players to converse with, exchange ideas, training tips, and more.

As for career goals, he says his biggest goal is to win a championship. He'd love to celebrate with his teammates and doesn't really have much focus on personal awards. Not saying he wouldn't love to win one but his primary focus is on team with a chance one day of making it to the hall of fame and perhaps even one day playing for his country.

Scouting has been greatly increased this weekend and he has spoken to a handful of teams. He tries to explain what he's looking for, what he hopes to achieve and how he thinks he can help. A lot of scouting is similar in questions so we have tried to incorporate that in this report. Things like earnings, training, what the player whats to achieve, etc. Hopefully, some teams will have some interest and take a chance on this waiver pick up. While he missed the minors draft he very much looks forward to taking part in the majors draft. For any other teams doing some scouting and have questions, do not hesitate to reach out and ask some questions. Very open to answering those and handling any concerns any teams might have to help clarify the picture surrounding Jeff Lewis.

Now, everyone is looking for some sort of fun activity where you all can spend an afternoon or day to chill, hang out and build some team spirit. Especially after a long and stressful season, what are your plans to ensure everyone has a great time?

As the Yukon Malamutes official Fun Director, my first implementation would be the dress code. Mandatory Hawaiian shirts, shorts, and flip flops, YES in Yukon. Non-negotiable, even with the weather. Nothing says fun and chill like matching Hawaiian shirts for the whole team. As for the activities, there will be a lot of winter activities such as but not limited to: ice fishing, dog sledding, igloo building, tubing, skiing, nordic spas, curling, and of course bobsledding. In the evening to wind down, there will be a large campfire with smores, beers, and snacks galore. To cap it all off, there will be fireworks followed by an amazing display of the northern lights.

I think everyone knows who the favourite is coming into the playoffs. The Detroit Falcons, the strongest team in the SMJHL right now, and coming to defend their title in the S69 (nice) play offs. The Falcons are trying to go back-to-back coming off last year’s championship, as well as going for their 3rd Four Star Cup in the last 5 seasons. If they pull this off, we can count it as a dynasty. That being said, we all know being the cup favourites and actually putting in the work to win it all is easier said than done. The top of the league is crowded and any one of the top 5 teams could take the cup home this season. Teams such as Maine Timber, Kelowna Knights, Great Falls, and Newfoundland could give the Falcons a run for their money. At the other end of the spectrum, we have a dark horse in the Yukon Malamutes, they did not have an impressive season by any means, but when their young core finds momentum, they can run away with games. With a few lucky bounces and finding a hot streak, the Malamutes team has shown that they can run and gun with any of the top teams.

11. A 6 Star Show
Make a dream team of players from any team in the playoffs, with 3 forwards, 2 defenseman and a goalie, and give an explanation for each pick. It could be the best team ever, or alternative maybe the worst?

My 6-star dream team for the SMJHL playoffs would be the best performers this season in S69 of the SMJHL. Some of these picks will be no brainers, however some others will be based on underlying numbers and statistics.

At Left Wing, Bohdan Jarovsky would be an easy lock for a strong 2-way playmaker. Racking up a league leading 60 assists and 93 points this season. Jarovsky has the ability to make any of his linemates better. The defence lacks a little with only 4 blocked shots in the whole season, but building a well rounded line-up will cover for that.

The anchor at Center would be none other than Cale Salad, the leader of this season in Goals and Points. You can not make a dream team line up for the playoffs without including that deadliest weapon on the ice. With 55 goals in the season with a ridiculous 25.3% shooting percentage, yes, that means he is expected to score 1 out of every 4 shots he takes, take a second to wrap your head around that.

At Right Wing, a little curve ball here, but I am going with Sergey Bombay to add a little bit more grit and defence that any line up needs in order to succeed in the playoffs. Sergey Bombay can provide a little bit of offence, but that’s not the reason he is on this line, his linemates will more than make up for what he lacks. He is here for one reason and one reason only, to hit and block shots. Averaging one of the highest hits and blocked shots per game at the position, he will be hard to play against in a long drawn out post season.

Left Defence, Nino Di Giuseppe. This season he has 53 points in 66 games, which is insane for a defenceman. Nino has scored more points than 80% of the league and that includes forwards. He is the highest scoring Defenceman, and did I mention he can also play D? With 101 hits, 35 blocks, and 40 takeaways, he isn’t just a glass cannon at the backend, he can put up and shut out as well.

At Right Defence, is John Brown. This is a D-man’s D-man, a stud that all goalies love. Stay at home, shut the door, turn off the lights, and HIDE YOUR KIDS. John Brown has 96 takeaways, 84 blocked shots, and 162 hits. Good luck getting into the O-zone when he’s on the ice, if he doesn’t take the puck off you, he will remove you physically from play.

They say a goalie can steal a game or even a series. When they are hot, they are HOT, and no one has been hotter than Jeff Newman all season. With a ridiculous 40 wins in 58 games (that’s a .689 win percentage) and 13 shutouts, that’s 1 shutout every 5 games. There is no one else you would want in the crease when the game is on the line.

As we near the end of S69, the SMJHL draft will be happening soon. Going into next season, what are your team's biggest needs and areas of strength? Do any holes need to be filled with call-ups? Do you have a position that is incredibly stacked? Give us all an overview of your team, from top to bottom.

This season has been a big test for us, to say the least. We are a young team, as many leaders have left, which did not give very positive hopes that we will fight for titles from the very beginning. So I would say that it would definitely be necessary to strengthen the defensive and attacking positions, because we need to recover more and more quickly. Theoretically speaking, we will definitely be much stronger next season, because many youngsters will be more mature to play at a good level. That's why I would stick to the fact that we need some addition in the circle of field players and then everything will be fine.

Earlier, in one of the tasks, I expressed my predictions about who I think will win the championship title this season. Now a good amount of time has passed and I want to say that my predictions are starting to crystallize in the future on one specific candidate. It would be wrong to say that the team I represent will be the champion, no matter how much I want it. So I'm leaning more in favor of the Detroit Falcons. In my opinion, they have great potential to become two-time champions and they are aiming for it. The team has great offensive potential that can surprise any opponent. It is not for nothing that this team won the regular season. This success has allowed the team to avoid the first round of the Play-Off games, which gives them extra time to prepare. Another would say that this time without game practice will only be a bad thing, but in my opinion, this is not the story of this team.

It's very hard to imagine another team that I could represent at the moment because I adore the Regina Elk team. However, if there is such a task and question, then I can say that I would definitely like to try to play for the Detroit Falcons team this season. The team won the regular season and is a real contender for the title. I think it wouldn't be difficult for me to get into the team, but my playing time would definitely be quite limited, because there are many young stars in the team, who will definitely play well enough at the adult level in the future. I wouldn't mind less playing time, but as I mentioned at the beginning, my heart and soul belong to the Regina Elk team! This is an interesting Play-Off experience, one that will surely be remembered forever, although there are also goals that were not met.

Although your career may still be in its early stages, it's still a great time to think about the future. What are some goals you have for your career, or some personal goals for the site? Are you striving for a HOF induction? Getting a site job?

My future and goals. I usually try not to advertise this topic, because it's hard for me to mention things that may never happen. I don't want to lift myself up and say that I am better than others. My first season in youth hockey didn't go exactly the way I wanted, the goal was definitely that I wanted to be the best young player in the league. In the end, it didn't happen and you have to put up with it. The beginning and middle part of the season was promising, because there was more productivity, but at the end there were big breaks, because of which it was already impossible to become the most productive. Now my next goal is definitely to do well in the Play-Off games and help the team as much as possible. Then I want to go as high as possible in the SHL draft, because I hope that I will catch the eye of one of the teams. I am diligent and that alone is needed by many of the teams in the future. I definitely want to win all possible trophies with the teams, both at the youth and adult level, as well as the world championships for juniors and adults. Then there are also individual achievements, which would certainly give me additional motivation to continue working. All in all, in the end, I want to become a player that everyone remembers from the new players in the league. I want to become a good role model for everyone else!

The team drafted 8 rookies last year so as long as everybody involved with the team continues to improve they are gonna be a force to be reckoned with for years to come. With rookies Smurfunkel Dothe, Jiggl E. Puff, Nathan Cormier, and Kieran Kovalev playing great in their rookie seasons this team is going to be scary for a long time.

Fueled by an offseason diet of dennys and constant training, the team will win a championship in the next 3 years guaranteed. Also the visiting locker room is going to be renovated for the next calendar year or so. The opposing team is going to need to get dressed on the bus or in the tunnel.

With their recent waiver signings and uptick of the quality of the play, watch out for Quebec City.

January 30th, Yukon Malamutes vs Kelowna Knights. The season hasn’t gone as planned, but we have to keep spirits high. The team comes up with an idea together to bring the fans into the next game, Golden. Dog. Collars. With little Malamute logos dangling off the front. We have them handed out at the entrance while people walk in, the fans can wear them anywhere they like as they can tighten and loosen. And the big kicker, every time we score, the little logos let out an AWOOOOOO. That night against the Knights we scored 6 times and every time that buzzer went off, everyone and their little logos belted out their best AWOOOOO. Maybe we should hand out more golden dog collars next year.

Looking at the future of the Yukon Malamutes is a joy, we have an entire core of young players that are getting better every week, and growing around each other to fit the team as well as possible. Our top 6 forward group is all staying together this year meaning we are only getting better in that area. If we draft a good 3rd like that puts work into being on this team, we’ll have a forward group up to par with most teams in the league. We have 2 defenders heading up to the big league next season meaning we have to draft well in our home end. But on the bright side, we will have one of ours hitting 425 or getting close to it meaning we’ll have a high-end defender and 3 elite defenders to back them up. In goal Asher Gibbons is looking to grow with the team and hopefully next year hitting the rookie max at 350, this would be huge for us as it would allow more leniency in that 3rd pairing in the draft. Asher is young enough to be the core goalie here for a couple of years to come, so drafting a backup isn’t too necessary this year. Hopefully hitting on that 3rd pairing, and potentially getting a 3rd liner that can put the work in, will be everything this team needs to take a BIG step in the right direction next season.

Who do I think will win the 4-star cup? Am I going for an underdog? Or a favourite? I would say they are likely favourites for the cup, they finished 4th in the league with 42 wins and 89 points. I believe the S69 (nice) 4-star cup winners will be the Great Falls Grizzlies. They came into the season with high hopes, but I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Leading the team in points was Hai Nam Hoang, he scored 30 goals and 87 points in 66 games. Other offensive highlights were Loosh O’Sullivan with 30 goals, and Bobby McGinnis with 68 points. They have one of the hottest goalies in the league with Bandit Heeler, he had 31 wins in 49 games. He also had a .909 save percentage, and 8 shutouts. Looking at advanced stats, the Grizzlies' PDO leader was right-defender Joshua Weber. Defensemen Nino Di Giuseppe and Chris Valentine followed Weber in PDO, but forwards were contributing here as-well. Tiberius Kane had a score of 104.2, and a Corsi for percentage of 49.9%. While James Dion scored 103.8 and 56%. But I couldn’t mention this team and all these players without mentioning one in particular. Rookie right winger Kyle Latreille, my little brother. His rookie season was fantastic scoring 17 goals and 39 points. He scored 102.1 on PDO with a Corsi for percentage of 49.4%. With all of these guys working hard out there, this is a very solid team. These are the reasons I’ve chosen the Great Falls Grizzlies for the 4-star cup. I wish all the teams luck and hope that the playoffs are wicked fun. Because the Yukon Malamutes and I will be back for more next postseason.

After his rookie season with the Yukon Malamutes, Josh Latreille is an interesting prospect, to say the least. Josh was very slow through the first half of the season. Scoring about 6 points, 25 penalty minutes, and a 6.6% shooting percentage. Josh is a physical player and had around 50 hits through the first half. The only real bright spot was winning a fight in his second game, showing some of the grit he can bring to the ice. His advanced stats were not much better, but he never stopped training all parts of his game. At the halfway point, Josh talked to some of his teammates and his coach. Josh wanted to know what he should do to advance his game, the answer was unanimous. Josh needed to work on his shot, so he did. The second half of the season was a much better showing of the player he could become, finishing with 15 points. He slowed down his penalty-taking, finishing with 42 penalty minutes. He picked up his physical game, finishing with 114 hits.

Write a pre-draft scout report on your player from the perspective of a journalist covering the prospects of the S69 SHL draft class. What do possible SHL suitors have to be excited (or perhaps wary?) about when it comes to potentially drafting your player?

I know my opinion is slightly biased, but I do believe there's quite a bit to be excited about with Nathan Cormier and his future in the SHL. Even in his rookie season, Cormier has shown a lot of poise and proved he can be the offensive threat he was supposed to be. In 66 games this season, Cormier put together 17 goals and 36 assists for 53 points all while playing on the second line and 2nd powerplay unit. Considering his abysmal start to the season as well, posting only 2 points in the first 12 games, it's fair to say Cormier has found his groove and is punching well above his current utilization. Cormier was known as more of a goal scorer, so I'm sure that he'll want to work on increasing that number next season, but even his current pace is nothing to scoff at for a rookie. Another thing SHL teams have to look forward to with Cormier is his outgoing personality in the locker room. Cormier tends to be one of the more vocal players around and brings a lot of positivity and a good sense of humor to his locker room. Last but not least, SHL teams will be getting a motivated player. On a personal level it's been a long time since I've managed to care for the league as a player, and my reintroduction to the league through QCC has done that in spades. I absolutely love my experience so far and I'm really looking forward to taking it all the way this time.

I believe you could say that our goalie position is 'incredibly stacked' with a S68 and a S70 goalie. No holes need to be filled there yet. An area that needs some work is defense, because some of our old defenders will be leaving us. However, we do have some younger ones that are earning well enough and not all of the old ones even hit the cap. In the S70 draft there were two busts, both forwards, they should probably be replaced too. In that sense the S70 draft was a little weak, but that's not a serious problem. Other than that our forward group looks pretty good and is clearly the other strength of the team. Currently the biggest percentage of players on the team is from the S68 class which will be going into their 4th season in the SMJHL next season and that will give us an advantage, at least those that have been earning well enough to hit the TPE cap.

Easy. We will replace our players' hockey sticks with axes (the good old Berserker way) and just chop our way through the other team until nobody is left standing*. You can only win that way, correct? Maybe the other teams are so afraid that they won't even go on the ice. *obviously this is a joke.

Realistically the team that probably has the best chance is Detroit (again) and they will be my pick in this. Just look at their regular season record and their crazy scoring. They were also 8 points ahead of the next team while teams between place 2 and 6 are only 7 points apart in total. In that group it's pretty close so if not Detroit then I'd say anyone else from the top 6 has a good chance as well. Detroit scores like crazy, but four other teams have exactly the same amount of goals (yes, I know GFG has one extra). Only Kelowna is a bit behind in that category, but it's super close nevertheless. If we really want to we could add 7th place Carolina and that's all teams with a positive goal differential, but they're a bit further away from the top 6 in points.  Obviously I would like my own team (Newfoundland) to win. They have a pretty good record for winning lots of cups, but that was all during a time I wasn't an active player on the team and I still haven't won a single cup during my time in the league, nothing with my old player either so that's really my main goal this time around. Making the playoffs is all you need so perhaps we're lucky during my rookie season already - even though I won't be playing. As long as Tummy Hurts can keep his tummy problems under control there might be a chance.

First I would look at every team that drafted a goalie in the last draft, because realistically only those teams actually needed one. Then, to make an impact, I would have to be on a team that wouldn't use me as a backup goalie but as an actual starter. Backups typically have zero to little impact so just sitting on the bench somewhere would make no difference. The following teams drafted a goalie last draft and that goalie is also their starter (or in a 1A/1B situation): Nevada (Nogoalov), St. Louis (Lee), Yukon (Gibbons) and maybe also Kelowna (Soonika). Out of those only Kelowna made it to the second round and - surprise - they did start their backup (1B) goalie for two games in the first round which I found interesting. At the time of writing this the second round hasn't started yet, but given the options I would see myself playing for Kelowna, because that's the team that so far gave a rookie goalie the best chance by not getting eliminated in the first round. I don't know how other teams will handle their goalie starts between (clear) starter and backup going foward, but I would assume that most teams will let their starters handle the playoffs only because they should have higher TPE. Then again, we know how little TPE matters so. In the end anything is possible, but a backup goalie will still be the one player on the team with the smallest impact in my opinion at least.

Rhett Carpet, also known as Shaggy, but probably even better known as Harry Carpet's son who - surprise, surprise - also plays goalie. Is this the beginning of another superstar career? It is difficult to imagine that someone can actually repeat or surpass Harry's career, but we also know that the younger generation of hockey players have access to much different training options. Which team will be lucky enough to draft Shaggy? Will he maybe follow his father's path in Toronto or go somewhere else? Will he be a one team player as well or move around? Having been drafted 5th overall in the first round only tells us that the league shouldn't sleep on this young goalie.

As the official Fun Director of our team, I take this role very seriously. I understand how important it is to unwind and enjoy ourselves after a long and stressful season. And what better way to do that than by organizing a fun activity where we can all hang out and build some team spirit?

First things first, I brainstormed some ideas with the team. We had to make sure everyone was on board and excited about the activity we chose. After some discussion, we decided on a day at the beach. We all agreed that it was the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable day out.

So, I got to work on organizing everything. I made sure to book a spot at the beach where we could all hang out together, and I arranged for transportation to get us there and back safely. I also made sure to bring along all the necessary beach gear, like umbrellas, chairs, and coolers filled with drinks and snacks.

Once we arrived at the beach, we wasted no time getting started. We all threw on our swimsuits and headed straight for the water. Some of us played beach volleyball, while others opted for a more laid-back approach and lounged in the sun.

As the Fun Director, it was my job to make sure everyone was having a good time. I made sure to check in with everyone and make sure they had everything they needed. If someone needed a break from the sun, I made sure they had a shaded spot to relax in. And if someone needed a cold drink, I made sure the cooler was stocked and ready to go.

But it wasn't all about relaxation and soaking up the sun. We also wanted to do something to build some team spirit. So, I organized a friendly game of beach volleyball. It was a great way for us to work together as a team and have some fun in the process.

As the game went on, we all started to let loose and have more fun. We laughed, joked around, and even had a few friendly rivalries going. But at the end of the day, we all came together and celebrated our team's achievements. It was a great reminder of why we all came together in the first place and how much we all care about each other.

Of course, we couldn't forget about the food. As the Fun Director, I made sure everyone was well-fed and satisfied throughout the day. We all brought our favorite snacks and drinks, and we even fired up the grill for some burgers and hot dogs.

As the day went on, we all started to wind down and relax even more. We sat around and chatted, enjoyed the sunset, and just enjoyed each other's company. It was a great way to end the season on a high note and bond as a team.

In conclusion, being the Fun Director of our team was an amazing experience. I was able to organize an activity that brought us all together and helped us unwind after a long and stressful season. But it wasn't just about having fun - it was also about building team spirit and celebrating our achievements together.

If I had any advice for anyone else who finds themselves in this position, it would be to make sure you listen to your team and take their opinions into account. It's important to make sure everyone is on board and excited about the activity you choose. And once you're there, make sure you're paying attention to everyone's needs and making sure they're having a good time. At the end of the day, that's what being the Fun Director is all about - ensuring that everyone is happy, relaxed, and having a great time together. Below I have made a list for other Fun Directors who would like to have a fun and seamless day with their teams.

LIST FOR FUTURE FUN DIRECTORS:

1.Set clear expectations: Let everyone know what to expect from the activity, including the duration, the attire, the equipment needed, and any other important details.

2.Provide clear instructions: Make sure that everyone understands the rules, guidelines, and safety precautions of the activity. Provide clear instructions and demonstrations if necessary.

3.Be flexible: Be open to feedback and suggestions from your team members. If someone is not comfortable with a particular activity, offer alternative options.

4.Stay positive: As the Fun Director, your attitude and energy can influence the team's mood and experience. Stay positive, enthusiastic, and supportive throughout the activity.

5.Celebrate success: After the activity, take the time to celebrate the team's success and accomplishments. This can be as simple as sharing a meal or snacks together, or giving out certificates or awards.

In conclusion, being designated as the team's official Fun Director is an important role that requires creativity, planning, and execution.

14. This offseason, James Ward-Prowse will be taking some much needed time away from the states. The fattening fryers of the USA were becoming a heavy burden on JWP's conscious, as he knew that deep fryers were the reason that Americans revolted against the Crown in the 18th century. As a true-blooded countryman, he had to take a stance. That stance is just sort of hard to keep when your teammates being Chick-Fil-A into the locker room or take you out to eat at a "meat and three," which says they offer you 3 vegetables, but we all know that creamed corn or fried okra hardly counts as a vegetable. By returning to the motherland, JWP hopes to reset his mind and his will to fight the good fight against tasty foods. "Every good Englishman eats their bangers and mash without a peep to its lack of taste or nutrients," is something his mother used to tell him when he was just a boy who had a dream of adding spices like salt or pepper to food. So back home he returns to detox all taste from his mouth so that his Earl Grey tea and Welsh Cawl would seem appetising again. "But oh well," JWP thought, "at least I can always count on Spotted Dick to taste great!" (look it up) (226 words)

16. One thing that I have always been really bad at in life is setting goals. So here should be no different, :kek:
As a dad of two and potentially going back to work in August, there might not be a lot of time left to get a big boy job in the league to contribute how I'd like to, but I can offer encouragement to those who are doing the hard jobs! Can that be a job? SHL cheerleader?
As for James Ward-Prowse, I'd really like for him to not suck. A seemingly attainable goal, but I've missed a less achievable goal before, so you never know. (150 words)

3. Training regiments can be incredibly helpful. But fellow rookie @apollorion has come up with an even better idea on how to get ahead of the game for next season. Over the next three months of the off-season, the Raptors rookies would make trips up to Quebec City to hypnotize the cheater Jiggle E. Puff (@zeagle1). While he's asleep, we intend to slowly condition him to be afraid of masks. At first, it will be small and believable, like a small whispering in his ear to run whenever he sees a clown mask. But it eventually evolves into masks of all sorts, halloween masks, hospital masks, cpap machine masks, bandanas around the nose like a cowboy. Pretty soon, poor Puffy won't even be able to watch an American football game without feeling uneasy about there being 22 men on the screen all wearing masks. The final product will be, of course, to cause him utter anguish and fear when he sees a goalie's mask. There is no worse yip to get than the scaredy-cat yip. Then, as easy as it was to beat them in S69, it will be even easier to annihilate them in S70. (200 words)

4. A-ha! Now this is a job that I can do. As the Colorado Raptors' "fun director," the first order of business will be a public and humiliating roast of @jay2233 with the catch that it has to be done while speaking in an Australian accent. This will be funny because Jay is from Australia. The next order of business will be to sneakily go through every team member's bank records to show to the rest of the team. There is nothing funnier than shaming @NYR73 for spending over $2500 at Build-A-Bear Workshop. Quite soon thereafter, we will start a documentary series that will follow us around through our daily lives individually, but never show us around anything relating to hockey. The draw of the show will be for the viewers to guess what line of work we are in judging only by the extracurricular activities that we participate in after hours. From the money that we make from sponsorships and selling the show to the YouTube, we will decide to buy an MLS club. I project that we should make about $40-50 thousand dollars from the show, which should be more than enough to buy the Colorado Rapids. Once we own the team, it will be a pretty simple switch: the players formerly on the Raptors will play for the Rapids and the soccer stars on the Rapids will lace up their skates and take to the ice to defeat Detroit. Nothing will be more humiliating than for a soccer team to beat an opposing hockey team at their own sport. That will be my crown jewel which will give me the perfect platform for retirement from my post as fun director and I can move in with Jay in the upside down under, where we will watch Bluey and pretend to cook shrimp with our Barbie dolls. The end. (315 words)
