Spidey’s way to early SMJHL rookie award season!

That’s right folks we are going to focus in on Rookie players only and the top potential producers in the SMJHL this year.  If you were not drafted this year we are not speaking to you.  The awards we will be predicting tonight will be:

Rookie MVP
Most Goals
Most Assists
Best Defender
Best Goalie

To start the evening, we are going to dive into the projected stat categories.  There are a ton of active juniors this year, and the rookie class is looking strong.  Let’s look at the Assist Category:

Most Assists, your Nominees are:
From the Nevada Battleborn – Max Carnage
From the St. Louis Scarecrows – Dominic Winter
Anchorage Armada - Finn Weiß

This is close because they are all talented players, But the winner is…

Dominic Winter!

Winter is a puck moving wizard coming in at the most opportune time, with an opportunity to play top minutes as a rookie.  While having some talented wingers on either side of him.  This is the opportunity that most rookies dream of when they enter the SMJHL.  Winter will clean up as a rookie in the points department.

He edged out the other two, because of likely hood to play 1st line and powerplay minutes.  Max Carnage and Winter is a lock. Finn Weiß seems to be a lock for the second line.  All three will do well.

Most Goals and the Nominees are:
Anchorage Aramada - Finn Weiß
Kelowna Knights – Logan Webb
Colorado Raptors - Oliver Castillon

And the Winner is…

Finn Weiß!
He has all the makings of a truly talented winger and should get a chance in the top 6 right away with powerplay time.  This almost guarantees that Weiß will have the rookie goal scoring title locked up as most rookies work their way up through their depth chart.  Weiß has a nack for getting open and a deceptively powerful shot that most goalies will see too late.

Depth chart edged out Webb, and Castillon may get a similar opportunity to Weiß but is not the natural goal scorer.

Lets move onto the upcoming BEST DEFENSEMAN Category!

The nominees are:
Colorado Raptors – Foggy Nelson
Vancouver Whalers - Bellamy Blake
Newfoundland Berserkers – Adelbert Steiner

A great group of defenders, but there can be only one winner and that is…

From the NEWFOUNDLAND BERSERKERS, Adlebert Steiner, this rookie sensation has come out from no where and immediately taken the league by storm.  He is a complete package, great at defense and no slouch in the offensive department, and he will be given an opportunity on one of the league’s powerhouse teams to shine right away, playing in all situations.  Between his natural god given talents and the team he is surrounded with he will quickly become one of the best defenders in the league.

The other two had similar opportunities perhaps better with Blake, but their teams are not as strong overall as the Berserkers.

Let’s move onto the Best Goalie Category, with the Nominees:
St. Louis Scarecrows – Kyle Baretto
Quebec City Citadels – Net Man
Colorado Raptors – Scary Jerry

Your Winner…

NET MAN!  This was very difficult, all three goalies are doing well early in their careers, and all three have a similar spot, they are sitting behind a grizzled veteran learning their craft as a backup, but Net Man is working with the defending champions.  That means Net Man will not be leaned on so hard when in the net and his teammate can help him win games that the other two may not be able to win as easily.  Net Man will have the best seasonal stats between all three of these talented goalies.

FINALLY WE ARE NEARING THE END OF THIS EVENING, but we have one last award.  Those goes to the rookie MVP, and there are a lot of options.  This goes to the player who effects his team on the ice and off it the most, the nominees are:

Nevada Battleborn – Finn Weiß
St. Louis Scarecrows - Dominik Winters
Vancovuer Whalers - Bellamy Blake

The winner of the Rookie MVP is…

Bellamy Blake!
His stats may not jump out at you as a top earner, he will be one of the better rookie defensemen but it will come down to the work he does for the league, his team.  Yes he has an advantage as a GM but he is coaching a ton of players, helping make decision to better the league and he is no slouch in keeping up his activity.  He is a star player and one anyone in the league wishes they could have on their team.

I was originally going to post a ton of joke awards but though it better to do real ones and save the jokes for a media article later.
