(GRADED)Deep Dive #2: SMJHL HoFers
#1
(This post was last modified: 03-28-2023, 03:27 PM by CptSquall. Edited 1 time in total.)

For my second deep dive, I'll be looking into the four players the SMJHL would initially name to their inaugural Hall of Fame if they had one for their SMJHL career. A key indicator will be total points, dominance, cups and whether or not I liked them.

Player #1: Alexi Piastri

You could tell Alexi Piastri was something special from their first season in the league. They came in with a staggering 56 points in 66 games, a +37 rating, 66 hits, 24 blocks, 20 penalty minutes. An all around force of the game with a flair for the offensive side. They'd follow that up with 56 points, not a huge jump from the season before, but then an astounding 103 point season in their third season in the league which consequently was the Nevada cup run. The all time leader in points with 297 for an SHL player, Piastri epitomized the success we look for in a Hall of Fame SMJHL player and we look forward to their success at the next level.

Player #2: Rand al'Thor

Did I make an article to brag about how amazing my last player was? Yes. Was he that damn good? Also yes. In a simulation where offensive defenseman point totals are usually well behind forwards, even in assists, Rand finished 1st all time in assists by an SMJHL player of any position. He has 45 points on the next highest defender in SMJHL history with a staggering 244 (also the only defenseman to ever top 200). His plus/minus is 2nd all time to Jannik Nordstern all while being only 75th in games played. A three time challenge cup champion, and 4 time finalist as they were a game from the four-peat, Rand's SMJHL success on the powerhouse Newfoundland Berserkers was incredible to witness. Recently gone to save the world from the shadow and ask his girlfriends if they love him, he belongs in the Hall of Fame for the SMJHL without question.

Player #3: Jonas Johansson

When you have a goalie, what do you want out of them? To stop the puck and to win games. With an all-time record, 34 shut outs and 155 wins Jonas epitomized the kind of goalie you'd want on your SHL team. While some may argue he had an easy job with the indomitable Berserkers dynasty infront of him, many teams have been ruined by subpar goaltending and he more than held up to the task. Shoutouts can go to Justin Time and Chimkin Tendy for fantastic careers as well and eventual HoFers at the position, but there can only be one and it's the 4 time challenge cup champion.

Player #4: Bohdan Jarovsky

Our final inductee goes to a player retiring at the end of this season, deciding he wasn't cut out for the SHL life, Bohdan Jarovsky. A pillar of some absolutely stellar Detroit Falcons teams, Jarovsky sucks put up 289 career points, finishing third all time in assists and second in points. Progressing every season, he had stellar totals from day one culminating in a 93 point effort good for second in the league in scoring that year. He also often found himself near the hit leaders despite not being the most physical player. A fantastic career by Bohdan guaranteed him the last spot in this SMJHL HoF theoretical existence.

While I wish there were more players I could add, I won't do honourable mentions since I've met my word cap. But there are lots of players with amazing SMJHL careers who would belong in this HoF.

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
