The Vancouver Whalers made many acquisitions to improve their odds of winning the Four Star Cup. Ultimately this didn't end up with them lifting the ultimate prize but I still think they made a lot of effective moves to help their club.

First we will discuss two trades between the Nevada Battle born and the Vancouver Whalers, it included future considerations in one that I've been told were cashed in on the other so for our purposes today we will consider them as one trade. So the first trade the Battle born acquired left wing Aksel VINSen in exchange for a Nevada conditional third round pick and a 4th round pick as well as future considerations. Those Future considerations were cashed in just two days later the two teams struck another deal. Vancouver acquired massive right defenseman Grell Fortox in exchange for only a 7th round pick the next season. This is a fantastic trade for the whalers as you acquire a good young defenseman who is improving everyday, some decent draft capital despite not being first round picks, all for a 7th rounder and a waiver claim. Grell ended up playing in twelve regular season games for the whalers where he racked up 5 points with a fantastic 6 takeaways and only 1 giveaway. In playoffs he scored 1 goal in 5 games. Aksel played in 22 games for the battle born and finished with 1 goal and 11 assists. A good trade for both teams.

Up next we will talk about the trade with the Colorado Raptors. Vancouver acquired goaltender Scary Jerry in exchange or a season seventy three third round pick and goaltender Sam Conroy. Scary Jerry appeared in 54 games for the Whalers getting securing 25 wins 26 loses. He had an 0.890 save percentage with a 3.97 goals against average. These are not numbers that set the world on fire but are good for a young goaltender with promise. As for Sam Conroy he was immediately dropped from the Colorado roster to remain roster limit compliant. This is another good deal for the Whalers where they acquire a starting goalie for what only amounted to a third round pick a couple of seasons down the line.

There was also the simulation major junior hockey league entry draft, where Vancouver made 5 picks in the draft. In the first they selected left defense Jaden Tanner who excels at bone crushing hits and smart high IQ plays in the defensive zone. With the 22nd overall pick the Whalers snagged another left shot defenseman in Leon Rizzton. Who is a smooth puck handling defenseman who contributed 22 points on the backend. The Whalers had two picks in the 3rd round, and got an absolute steal selecting Center Scott Seitz thirty second overall. Scott ended up with 67 points which was good for 4th in rookie scoring. They also selected yet another left defenseman in Remington Richardson III. He had a respectable rookie season scoring 7 goals and notching 12 assists. And finally with their 4th round pick they took center Colt Fox who did fantastic with 47 points in his rookie campaign.

The Whalers also free agent Roman Roy who never played a game with them.

Overall the whalers made a lot of smart moves to improve their chances of winning. I think if Vancouver continues making smart moves like these they will all but guarantee themselves a Four Star cup victory.
