Texas Renegades S71 Team Awards

It’s late (again) but it’s here! It’s the Season 71 Texas Renegades Team Awards! The Renegades continue to follow a path out of the rebuild and things get more and more exciting. This team is so much fun to watch these days with all our young rising stars so here’s our opportunity to recognize their greatness! Let’s get into it!

The Texas Renegades "Sharpshooter" Award

(most goals this season)

In Texas, a sharpshooter is a name given to one who is quick with their pistols or highly skilled in shooting their weapon!
We of course have a player who is highly skilled at shooting pucks with their stick and thus they are the Texas Renegades “Sharpshooter”.

Your Texas Renegade "Sharpshooter" this season is:

Theo Kondos! - @Ohtaay

Kondos came back to Texas last season and we were excited to bring him back home! Theo wasted no time becoming the leader in goals for Texas and scored 30 this season!

Kondos was a huge piece of this roster when Texas was in its prime and has made it clear that he feels like he never left as he continues to be a huge piece now!

Renegades The Texas Renegades "Wheel Horse" Award Renegades

(most assists this season)

In Texas, a right hand man or pal is known as a wheel horse! Given that this award is for most assists, I think we can all call that guy our right hand man!

Your Texas Renegades "Wheel Horse" this season is:

Chris McZehrl Jr. - @Chris-McZehrl

McZ has been a playmaking monster for the Renegades since S68. He’s been leading the team in assists and does it again this season with 51 big assists! Will McZ do it again? We’ll have to wait and see. What a McBeast.

Renegades The Texas Renegades "Ranahan" Award Renegades

(most points this season)

Another name for the best cowboy or most experienced cowboy is Ranahan. Given that this award is going to the player who got the most points in a season, it’s fitting to call that person the top cowboy or “Ranahan”!

Your Texas Renegades "Ranahan" this season is:

Chris McZehrl Jr. - @Chris-McZehrl

Like I said just now, what a McBeast! McZ Not only scored 51 assists, he popped in 21 goals as well for a team leading 72 points. McZ actually finished last season with 72 points as well! Talk about consistency! Congrats McZ! Can’t wait to see what you do next season!

The Texas Renegades "Fantobens Force" Award

(most hits this season)

Named after precious Joseph Fantobens, this award goes to the player with the most hits in a season. Joseph Fantobens was known for getting out there and crushing the body. For four straight seasons (S60-S63) Fantobens had over 300 hits a season. During those seasons he combined for a total of 1281 hits which is absolutely insane. To remember those bone crushing hits, we have named this award after him!

The Texas Renegade earning this seasons "Fantobens Force" award is:

Theo Kondos! - @Ohtaay

Geez leave some awards for the rest of us guys! Kondos meant business out there this season as he lands 126 hits this season! Theo may have been around the league for a while but he’s certainly no slouch. Watch out when Kondos is on the ice. He’s going to lay the hit on you and score on your goalie.

The Texas Renegades "Puoli Pulverizer" Award

(most shots blocked)

Puolivalmiste played an integral part in Texas’s success. They organized and managed the team into a force and led them to two challenge cup victories, season 59 and season 62. Puoli is a very well respected user in the SHL and is an absolute wealth of knowledge. The “Puoli Pulverizer” Award goes to the player with the most shots blocked, a stat well loved by GMs and their players sacrifice the body to win the game!

The Texas Renegades "Buckaroo" Award Renegades

(most underrated)

This is a new award starting in S70! Replacing the Texas “Varmint” award for most penalty minutes, we wanted to have an award for a player on the team who performed very well but also may have flown under the radar. Everyone loves a Buckaroo!

The Texas Renegades "Buckaroo" this season is:

Pawter Meowski! - @Andy

Let me tell you about this cat. He’s a cat that plays hockey. And he is incredible! Quite potentially one of the most exciting up and coming Renegades, Meowski made a statement this season scoring 28 Goals and 39 assists combining for 67 points on the season! I’d keep an eye on Meowski if I were you for a most improved player nomination as great things are going to happen for them. A fan favorite, a great cat, we all love Meowski!

Renegades The Texas Renegades "Drag Rider" Award Renegades

(top performing Goaltender)

This award is also the winner of the coolest award name. A Drag Rider is a cowboy who rides at the rear of the herd. Given that the goalie sits at the back, they are indeed the Texas Renegade “Drag Rider”.

The Texas Renegades "Drag Rider" this season is:

Anthony Dionne! - @Anthique

Dionne continues to be the man in net for the Renegades. Jebus was able to step in when needed and get the job done but Dionne is without a doubt one of the most authentic, athletic and reliable goalies in this league. As the Renegades get ready to go big, Dionne will be a key part going forward as he continues to play the majority of games possible and getting big wins for the team.

This season was incredibly exciting. Texas is approaching the end of its rebuild and it’s an absolute blast to watch our young players shine in big ways. At one point we had James Dion who played his rookie season this season in conversation for the Jesster. Things went a bit off the rails as Texas went through their growing pains but there’s no doubt that they will be a huge part of the team very very soon, much like many other of our young players!

I’d also like to take a moment to thank Andreas Kvalheim - @raymond3000 for everything he’s done in Texas for the past 25 seasons! That’s right, 25 season as a Renegade. It is absolutely bittersweet to see Kvalheim leave the roster but he’s not ready to hang them up yet. We’ll be ready to party though once that day comes. Best of luck in Toronto!

With Kvalheim’s leave, that brings other news to the Renegades! We have a brand new captain! As voted by the roster, I am extraordinarily proud to name David-Arturri Donskoi - @LarryTheMVP as the next Renegade Captain! DAD was previously wearing an A and has been a strong voice for the team for quite some time. We are excited to have him as the team’s leader going forward! With that we have Hodor - @bbjygm who continues to wear an A, and filling in for the previous A, we’d like to congratulate Theo Kondos - @Ohtaay who has been voted to wear an A for the team! Kondos brings so much knowledge and skill with him and is always there to answer questions and provide directions to our young players!
