S72 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview
#1

The SMJHL season is about to start, after we all got a taste of juniors hockey with preseason. In the 7-game span of preseason, teams got a pretty good look into what to expect, and also who the key contributors are likely to be. How is your team looking ahead of this season, and who are gonna be the main pieces of your squads?
Written option: Talk about how your team is looking ahead of the coming season. Include at least 3 players who will be key to the success of the team, plus an explanation why they will be crucial. Must include 150 words.
Graphic option: Create a magazine cover style graphic with a headline for the team, plus a render for a key player on your team's squad. Make sure to identify which player the render is supposed to be in the graphic.
Reward
3 TPE for doing the thing. (Just one, not both.)
Only S72 SMJHL Rookies (S73 SHL Draftees) are eligible for this PT.

So my Looks on Kelowna Knights
Kelowna Is quite prepared
Player to watch: Arthur Kaliyev
He is quite an accurate man sure a guy to watch
He has the potential to be top 10 scorer
In Pre-Season he was the top scorer on Kelowna Roster so he has something to show he sure can
Get at least 55+ goals but I'm just saying it's just a tip
Next player to watch (draftee)
The player is: Jonas Salat
Great defender he does his job good
And is a promising shooter and he can show good defending game my tip is probably 35+ points
But he can do better nobody knows
The last player that showed promising games is
David Soupre
The last pick is tied with Kevin Kim
But I think that David Soupre has the potential to have
30+ goals
Reason: He has accurate shots and he's quite fast
He showed promising games in the pre season
2 goals and 3 assists

Malamutes Yukon Malamutes  Malamutes
With a really solid pre-season record, the Yukon Malamutes are poised and positioned for a strong showing in Season 72. Top 5 in the standings (based on the current index), 2nd in the Conference, and top of the Division. In the Michael Fitted Division, the Malamutes were the only team to come out with a positive record, which is a really positive sign for the team.

The Malamutes also come in with 5th most goals, 3rd least goals against, and 4th best goal differential in the league through the 5 pre-season games so far.

Although not favourites to win the league, the Malamutes are certainly a strong and capable contender.

However, the success of the team will hinge on the following:

Usa G - Jim Wen
Fundamentally, the best teams always have good goalies - and the Yukon Malamutes will be no exception. Rookie Jim Wen played lights out in his pre-season debut, and made it certain that he would start the season as the Malamutes starter. Finishing the pre-season top 5 in Wins, GAA, Goals Saved Above Average, and Save % mean that the Malamutes' pre-season success was certainly propped up by Wen's stellar performances. If the Malamutes want to go far, Jim Wen is certainly going to need to get hot at the right time to help the Malamutes through.

Usa LW - Jordan Tanner
Through 5 games, Jordan Tanner scored 5 goals on a fantastic 27.8 shooting percentage, with none of his goals coming on the power play. If Tanner can maintain his scoring touch through the season, he can be poised to win the Malamutes prestigious Struck Gold Award for being the team leader in scoring, and replacing Alexander as the bonafide scorer of the team. For the Malamutes to go far, replacing Alexander will be essential - and Tanner's hot start shows a step forward that makes him the likely candidate to do so. With strong potential and good chemistry with his line mates, the sky is the limit for Tanner.

Malamutes LD - Sydney Shaw
THE defensive glue of the team, Sydney Shaw. If the team wishes to succeed, it will be hard to look past Sydney Shaw for success with her team leading 23:26 TOI, and 83 Defensive Game Rating. Sydney isn't all defence, posting 3 assists and a +6 +/- through 5 games. Her 4.5:1 Takeaway:Giveaway Ratio will certainly mean more opportunities for the Malamutes to capitalize on offensive opportunities, and sound defence will reduce scoring opportunities and help rookie Jim Wen get comfortable in the net. The biggest question mark for Shaw is can she start winning face-offs too?

However, despite these three players efforts, what may really differentiate a successful season from a very successful season is the Malamutes' Defence's ability to win the faceoff. Through the pre-season, Malamutes defencemen went 10-16 in the face-off circle, for a meagre 38% success rate. If the Malamutes don't start letting their forwards take the face-offs, they may struggle with possession.

The Anchorage Armada of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League looked deadly this preseason which is something they'll want to be carrying into the regular season. There's three main players who will be important to their success this season and I would absolutely love to talk about them right now.

Tony Soprano is the reining most valuable player in the league or outstanding player I can't remember which but I'm not looking it up perhaps it was in fact both but either way if Tony can repeat this incredible season we will be better off as a team.

Defense wins championships so having someone like Dan Johnston on the blueline holding down the fort and leading the defense will be key. Look for him to be the standout defensive defenseman this season because nobody is beating him.

Daniel Grumathan will also be a threat to lead the team in scoring this season and even if he doesn't lead I'm predicting top 3 minimum. Just a monster of a player who will be set for an amazing season for the Anchorage Armada.

Well for Kelowna i think we will be an average team with a chance too do better or worse based off of how the kids of Kelowna pan out in there rookie seasons lets take a look at this deep year of 17 year old kids making there way towards the shl draft

 Left Defense - Brooklyn Physt
Picked #9 one of top TPE rookies right now in the league also is playing the top pair mintues aswell

Center - Daniel Durkburg
Picked #40 overall but currently in top 10 in TPE in rookie class Kelowna got a stud

 Left Defense - Jonas Salat
#3 overall pick Salat will join the ranks he comes up just behind Physt currently in overall abilities but Kelowna definitely sees something in this player going as high as #3 currently in top 10 earners of the leauge

Right Defense - Ho Lee-Smokes
Picked 24th in second round another so far active Defensiveman in a couple seasons this team will look deadly if built right

Center - David Soupre
37th overall 2 centers were tooken in the 3rd round by Kelowna

Left Defense - Jamhi Huovinen
FA pickup

Goalie - Five-Hole Sieve
FA pickup

The Colorado Raptors feel like a really young team. So it does feel that they need a lot of work. So 3 stand outs I see are 1. Jussi Mutou Leading the team in goals during the preseason. It does feel like early on that He will be the regular season leader in goals. I don't think that He will drop off and the production will increase.2. Drew Sureshot are really good showing offensively with 3 goals and 2 assists getting those assist totals  higher could be I great weapon on the Blue line. 3. Jaxon Markstrom. A rough couple of outings for the goaltender in the preseason. But I feel that once the defense gets its footing Jaxon could Blossom into a great starting netminder for the Raptors. Though young I feel that the raptors will get better as the year progresses. Though may not be contending for a cup they should be a Tough outing for many teams.

The Detroit Falcons are realists when it comes to expectations for the season. With a new draft class coming in, and a realization that preseason wasn’t pretty, they know that they are not a team that is expected to win any trophies off the bat. However, the feeling in the locker room is that they are ready to surprise every doubter this season, and even though it may not be an easy feat, they are fully expected to bring a cup to Detroit in the next few seasons. So far the new draft class has surprised many with their TPE accumulation, even with the late picks. In the wise words of @sve7en the leadership in Detroit are “onto something for sure”. The culture in the locker room seems to be one of energy and collaboration, and I am fully expecting the leak to be put on notice. #skree but I’m reality #chirpchirp

Players to look out for:

Prince Marius - his breakout speed and lack of defense is one to note. Expect Prince to end the season with a -30 and the worse defensive ranking in the league.

Wayne Holloway- the Detroit Goalie is up for a breakout season. Expect a horrid GAA but high Save Percentage due to the volume of shots he will have to face.

Kenny Omega - the one winged angel himself will use his one wing and dominate others on the boards. Kenny has a fighting background and the largest lats a man can.

Being one of the new guys on campus, your main area of focus is just working hard to fit in the locker room and also trying to add to the teams performance on the ice. The off-season was really good for our team and we definitely used the pre-season to get acclimated with each other before the games count. We are definitely optimistic for this coming season. There are a couple players that are going to lead us to where we want to be.

Mercedes Baylé is a top line winger and going to be relied on to create offense for the Elk. They are going to have a few different weapons to help them and with their passing skills, we could see big point production from Baylé this season.

Willow Soderberg-Snooks is the number 1 defenceman for Regina and will carry the load on the backend. Willow will be tasked with stifling the opponent's top line while also moving the puck out of the zone and onto the sticks of the forwards. A lot of pressure, but Willow has trained for this and has shown to be more than capable of leading this defensive core.

Rowan O'Beirne is your quintessential number 1 centre on a contending team. Rowan had a fantastic pre-season and looks poised to dominate on the ice this season. Forming a strong 1-2 punch with Baylé, Rowan is ready to lead this team.

The Colorado Raptors are a very young and hungry team going into season 72. Some initial standouts this season will be left winger Jussi Mutou from Japan and his linemates, right winger Xavier Beausoleil from Canada, and center Shoresy Wobet from the United States. Wobet, drafted in season 70, brings a solid veteran presence to the Raptors top line with rookies Mutou and Beausoleil on his wings. Wobet looks to add to a solid sophomore season in which he picked up 72 points in 66 games. And with a high powered Jussi Mutou on the left side, and a physical Xavier Beausoleil on the right, he should have all the help he needs.

Mutou lead the Colorado Raptors in goals and points in pre-season, scoring 7 times and adding 1 assist so he’ll likely be the trigger man that a lot of the offensive rushes will end with.

Wobet and Beausoleil tallied 6 and 5 points respectively so this should be a line that is poised to rack up some solid numbers.

The Falcons has their work cut out for them. With a pre-season to forget about they will have to aim for the future, build on developing together and chip away at their goals.

To not get blown out of the water this season there are a couple of key players that need to perform.

First of all, Wayne Holloway has the means to be a dominant force in the net, and with mostly rookies in front of him he needs to be the backbone of the team, maybe not just on the ice but in the locker
room.

Secondly, we have a veteran defenseman on the team in Zedward Zilliams who's a defensively solid D-man. He will have to show the rookie defenders what it takes to play in this league.

Third we have The Murray who's the big threat up front. He will need to not only score a ton with his experience but also be a solid defensive presence.

The general feeling is that Detroit will be under pressure a lot this season, so it will be a test of their structure and defensive rigidity.
