(GRADED) Deep Dive #1: One Sven's road to best Sven

Robo Sven has started his rookie season with the Vancouver Whalers, the very same place Sven Svechnikov started his journey way back in season 58. Sven Svechnikov started his career very humbly, posting 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points and a +8 on the season. Robo Sven has already blown matched that 24 games into the season, with 3 goals and 19 assists to provide 22 points in his rookie campaign. Sven Svech's major contributions came on the blue line, putting up heavy minutes each night and ending up with a +200 on his career, showing that while he didn't really do a lot of the scoring, his team was scoring a lot more than the other team while he was on the ice. After his bionic augmentation, Robo Sven has decided to try life a bit closer to the net and try his hand at scoring. As evidenced by his 3 goals, that's not going too great. Nobody will ever scoff at 19 assists though, so he's definitely still got a nose for the right play, just an inability to finish the job himself. He's also proving that his defensive instincts are not fading, as he's currently 5th in the SMJHL in hits. Nobody likes a forward that's afraid of getting physical, so as long as he's contributing on the score sheet as well as making his presence known on the ice, the sky is the limit for Robo Sven. He does have his work cut out for him though, as Sven Svechnikov had a great career both in the J's and in the SHL. He collected a 4 star cup win in Season 61, as well as Challenge Cup wins in Season 70 and Season 74. Vancouver definitely doesn't look primed for a deep playoff run this season, but they are guaranteed a berth and everyone knows that anything can happen once you're in. Sven Svechnikov also had a Turd Ferguson trophy for most PIMs, and as long as Robo Sven keeps throwing his body around like he has been, he surely is primed to repeat that. Svech also collected a gold medal in the WJC in season 60.

So to recap: Robo Sven is already on a fast pace to blow past Sven Svechnikov's point total, but points hardly tell the whole story of Sven Svechnikov's career. To match Svech's career, Robo Sven will have to contribute trophies in both leagues (and medals in international play), but it's obvious that Sven knows how to win and brings that mentality everywhere he goes. He's played in almost 200 playoff games with a +44 rating across all of them, so there's no doubt that Robo Sven will have the experience necessary to lift the cup in Vancouver again very soon. Keep an eye on Robo Sven in the remainder of his rookie season as he looks to develop a scoring touch instead of just setting up his teammates to score. Once that happens, the Whalers will be a force to reckon with again.
