After picking up a Four Star Cup last year, the Detroit Falcons are looking to pick up another championship. While they've lost some top players from last year, they've made a couple new additions in net and at centre and their returning players are better than ever. Let's take a dive into who they'll be relying on to get the team back to their second straight Four Star Cup win.

The key to the Falcons offense runs through Marek Carda, the team's runaway goal-scoring leader with 24 in 50 games. Even though he's only on the second even-strength line, Carda has excelled as a power-play puck distributor to rack up points on special teams and set up teammates for great shots. Detroit still has a very balanced attack after Carda with several players having very good seasons, such as Emil Karlsson, Will Tomlander and Kenny Omega. Rookie Brayden Point has been a big add on this side of the game with a solid 27 points in 50 games from a depth position, showing a strong ability to distribute the puck and find his teammates open. With the balance of Detroit's offense, it'll be hard for teams to slow down this attack when it comes to playoff time and they can play off mismatches with teams playing their top defenders against Detroit's big stars.

Where the Falcons really excel and what might propel them to a repeat championship is in their defensive effort. The team boasts an absolutely lockdown unit let by shot-blocking god Stormlord Imotekh. Through 50 games, the defender is leading the league with 215 blocked shots. Dunkler Sowerwine and Kal Akar Kekkonen have also been elite on the back end, eating up big minute loads every night and chipping in some offense as well. Every defensively talented team also needs a solid goaltender, and so far rookie Anastasia Söderström has been as advertised. While she's faced a lighter shot workload than other goalies thanks to that stout defense, she still boasts stats among the league's very best and leads the league in shutouts with five, showing she's not just entirely a product of the squad in front of her. Sophomore backup Luke Fromm has also done a very fine job in relief, with stats not far behind Söderström's and picking up an 8-3 record.

While at the time of writing the Falcons are three points behind Colorado for the division lead, the playoff bracket still seems to be a favourable draw for the Falcons this year thanks to unbalanced divisions even if they don't make it in. With the league's top teams being clustered into two divisions, Detroit would likely be the 6th seed at worst, drawing Vancouver or St. Louis in the wildcard round. Barring any ridiculous upsets from the other teams in the league, the second round would likely see them take on whichever of Yukon or Anchorage gets out of their division. The big challenge in the playoff bracket will undoubtedly probably be Quebec City if the Falcons make it that far, and no doubt the Owls will be looking for revenge after years of playoff heartbreak against their bird brethren. When it comes down to it, it'll be a battle of which team can grind out the wins in the trenches, and there's a good shot that Detroit could come out on top.
