The time is coming. New teams in the SMJHL. Exciting!

With the expansion draft rules being announced, I have looked at every team and made my own educated guesses on who they would protect using the 6-3-1 format. One team did not have 3 eligible defensemen to protect, so I went with the 9 player protection from them. Obviously, I am not privy to the thought processes for each teams so this is likely not going to be 100% accurate, nor do I know if teams would rather protect their younger players over their more established ones. So take this list with a grain of salt!

Both teams ended up only selecting 1 S74 each, and both teams electing to go more with the S75/76 players who were available, automatically making them strong contenders for S78 and S79, as long as they have strong entry drafts. Of course, GM's could protect more of their younger players and the expansion GM's may have no choice but to draft heavier in S74 picks.

Who knows, but it's always a fun time around league expansion!

I thought you had Pinli Switchbang and James Howlett protected, how would they go to an expansion team?

Whichever one of the Quebec City goalies doesn't get protected - presumably Konecny - should absolutely be picked up. No diss on Stahl or Cechmanek but he's flying under the radar.

Lots of good players will presumably be available from Quebec City so it would be interesting to see which two get picked

In the past, there have been trades exchanging picks for further player protections. I imagine the teams who have the most to lose are thinking in that direction if the rules are similar.
