The Ottawa Highlanders have just completed their first season ever in the Simulation Major Junior League. I wanted to take a look at the season which we can hopefully look back on very soon to see how much we have massively improved.

The Highlanders finished the season with a record of 24 wins 38 losses and 4 overtime losses which left them 14th in the standings on the season. I think the most interesting stat when you look at the other bottom 4 teams, is that the Highlanders had a goal differential that was 34 goals higher then the next lowest team, -51 for the highlanders compared to Yukons -85. This is just one example of how close some of our games really were, a little more ice tilt and we might have been able to move up quite a few spots in the standings.

Our two main losses for next season (at least guaranteed losses) are the Right wing Cob O’Corn and the Goalie Tanner Pitts. Luckily in the goalie department we already have an up and coming goalie in Bishop Van Apeldoorn ready to take up that main spot in front of the net. Cob O’ Corn Might be the harder person replace as one of the teams leading Scorers with 19 goals and 60 points, but luckily there are a lot of hungry players on that team that are at least going to put their best effort in to see who is going to earn the right to take that spot.

Some of the players I’m most looking forward to seeing improve next season are:

Hockey Player: Coming off of their rookie season with 16 goals and 40 points, Hockey player has been doing nothing but training hockey during the offseason in order to help the team make a real showing next season. Without a center leaving the team Hockey player will probably still be playing wing, but potentially with different linemates. Hopefully their strong puck play and passing ability will be able to elevate their line to

Demir Bellona: This Defenseman may be a question mark for next season, Their strong play without aging out of the league makes them a strong candidate for a SHL team to look for an early callup to see if Bellona can make an impact in the big league. Demir Bellona leads the team in ice time with a very strong 25:12 average time on ice. So next season they will either be one of the biggest contributors on the team, or one of the biggest holes left on the team. Luckily Highlanders management is some of the best, and finding a solid replacement in time is a sure thing.

Finally is the player Jacob Maccabees: Joining the team as a rookie midway through the season, this defenseman was able to get their offensive stats extremely comparable with other older defenseman on the team. While only playing 38 games this season. This player is clearly ready to bust out and will absolutely be a force to be reckoned with for the Highlanders Defense core for many seasons to come.
