[VSN] Oh, Hi! (Intro to Nanashi Mumei)
#1

Narrator: We see the Ottawa Civic Center. There, a young indigenous woman is seen skating around the rink in an Ottawa 67’s jersey. She looks focused on achieving her dream, bringing the pride and valor of the SHL to her indigenous people. Reporters storm the rink to see the future of Canadian hockey.

Mumei: Thank you for stopping by, I’m glad you’re here to see what the Inuit are capable of in these challenging times. We believe in a strong mind and a strong soul. I am the embodiment of an Owl, which is a sense of guidance and strength according to my people.

Reporter: Is there anywhere in the J you would want to go, like potentially right here in Ottawa?

Mumei: I do not care where I end up. As long as that the organization that takes me in continues to advance my current capabilities and takes good care of me. My main objective is to make my tribe stronger and proud of who they are. We are warriors and must take pride in that.

Reporter: So, what type of player do you desire to be? Any influences?

Mumei: I’m looking to become a two way center, as I’m currently set up to contribute in both ways, including a decent physical presence and staying in the game the whole time. Compare me to other prospects, you don’t get a total package like myself. You also will be missing out on the heart and soul of a warrior. Speaking of warriors, I idolize the warrior that was Videl Valor, great two way dominance and an elite goal scorer when you need it.

Reporter: Quite impressive, well let you get back into your training routine. We also left some gifts for your tribe in the locker room.

Mumei: I hope you got them seal fur, because there’s been a shortage of it this year. Whale blubber is acceptable as well, I mean, how did I survive in Japan for 3 years when I was living with Videl? Normal humans can’t survive the extreme cold that we thrive in.

Narrator: Mumei has caught the attention of hockey scouts everywhere and looks forward to the J playoffs, and to whomever gives her a chance to play. Nobody has seen an Inuit player before in the league so how will that impact her mentality going in?

Mumei (In Inuit language, translated): The league shall know the way of the warrior owl, someone who has gone through hardship and sacrifice to make a valorous effort in the sport of hockey. They shall respect me as who I am, and shall accept my traditions and culture as a way of passage into acceptance of the indigenous people and society. (She completes the ritual, and walks out of the arena, with a hockey stick with a bag full of supplies for her tribe.)

This is the beginning of the Mumei Saga! I wanted to make an indigenous player, so I combined a personal favorite VTuber of mine and sprinkled in some lore to make sense of her heritage.
