Hughes Incorporated is the next new flashy left winger from Latvia to arrive on the SMJHL scene. He is known for his fast speed, his sharp reflexes, and his ability to know where to go to score goals. Incorporated is known for his good leadership and ability to lead his team through any situation. He has immense grit and grind and is willing to bash through any opponent to prevent them from scoring before they can even get to the defensive zone. The left winger has great knack for the game and was high on the assists, goals, and points leaderboards back in college and high school. One of Hughes’ main difficulties is that it’s hard for him to handle tougher opponents near the back of the net area but that will come with experience and as he grows into his body and gets used to the rough and tough lifestyle of the SMJHL. In addition, he needs to learn how to attack better and not just stand by waiting for pucks to come his way but again that will come with time and greater experience in understanding offensive sets and playstyles. However, even with that he has a knack for learning quickly certain gamestyles and will learn quickly the optimal way to play in the SMJHL and make an immediate impact out on the ice. Finally, one of Incorporated’s greatest strengths is his mental stamina; no matter what happens in a game, he doesn’t let any situation phase him; he thinks of every situation as the same; simply prevent goals and score goals to win.

TORONTO -- It's a Monday morning in late March. A thin layer of ice covers the streets and sidewalks, uncharacteristically cold for what should be spring, but the sun won't be rising for a few hours yet. Into a run-down gym in the west end of Toronto walks young Barcus Juneau, ready for another workout session.
Today is a day of change for Juneau. The previous evening his minor hockey career ended in disappointment. A season that was supposed to end in a run for the MTHL Cup instead fizzled out in failure, his team knocked out of the playoffs in their last game of the season. Later today, after his morning gym session and before his afternoon on-ice, Juneau will receive a call from the St. Louis Scarecrows of the SMJHL. That St. Louis came calling now was a surprise to Juneau, but really it should not have been. Games at the highest level of the MTHL are always packed with spectators, and it's obvious that those watching are not just family and friends. Scouts come from near and far to watch the crucible that is draft-year AAA hockey, and Juneau drew more than a few eyeballs throughout his senior season. It is his skating that you notice first, somehow both explosive and atomically precise at the same time. Blink and you miss how he got down the ice to neutralize an opposing forward or jump into a man-advantage attack. You notice later how his stickhandling and passing are merely exceptional, and how his vision and hockey IQ complete the package of a draft-ready future star. Signing a DFA contract with St. Louis was supposed to be a quiet educational experience for Juneau, a chance for him to learn the ropes and soak up some locker room time with a real professional club. There was little hope of any meaningful ice time, let alone any success against the heavily favoured Nevada Battleborn in the first round of the SMJHL playoffs. Instead, Juneau had a dream start with his new club. He potted three goals to help St. Louis upset Nevada in a first-round victory in just five games. Juneau knows that things have changed, and the SMJHL draft is just a couple of weeks away. The eyes of the SMJHL are watching him now, and if they don't blink too often, they'll see a player ready to embark on a special professional career. |
