Deep Dive #1 - Greatest players in NBB history

As a new member of the NBB organization, I wanted to learn some of the greats that have played here, with the goal of constructing a ‘Mount Rushmore’ of some of the best to ever lace up for the Battleborn. As a new player and member of the LR, I don’t have some context that might otherwise go into this decision. For example, a long-time NBB user might put a player on the list that didn’t quite have the stats to make it, but was an integral part of the LR and helped build the team to what it was today. Or maybe they’d put a player who was 50 career points short, but solo carried in the team in dark times. But all I have is a table of names and stats, so this will purely be based off that. Although it should be a top 4 overall no matter what, I am also going to make it 2F, 1D, and 1G to share the love to all positions.
For forwards, the two names that instantly jump out to me are Bender Junior and Alekks Ivanova. The formatting here might get messy, but this duo is #2/#1 in goals and points, #3/#2 in assists, #2/#5 in plus-minus, and Bender Junior is even the franchise leader in hits. They produced in all scenarios, since they are the top 2 for even-strength goals and points as well. Bender Junior is also your franchise leader for the single-season high of; points, even strength points, hits, SOG, +/-, and playoff goals and points, while Ivanova has many of the franchise single-season powerplay records. Ivanova also has a Hanson trophy, and Junior has a Hanson and Martucci, and unless I'm mistaken, this duo is not only the top 2 in franchise points for NBB, but top 2 in all of the SMJHL in points in the FHM8 era. Some other names in the running would be Gray T White, Alexi Piastri, Paul Peterson, and Thomas Sawschuk amongst many others. White is the franchise assist leader and top 3 in points, and also right behind Bender Junior for #2 all time in hits. Sawschuk finds himself top 5 in most of the production stats (G/A/P/ and their even-strength versions), just barely beating out similar players like Wing Wang and Literally Wizard. Sawschuk is also maybe the most productive playoff player in franchise history. Piastri has similar rankings to the names listed above, but was also the only name to be on the S66 cup winning roster, and a crazy trophy case of Hanson, Martucci, Fallah, and Lindsay. Peterson has a Witzel, Anrikkanen, and some of the top franchise stats when adjusted for GP. This is really hard to pick two names, but I would have to cop-out with the counting stats and go with Junior and Ivanova. I think Piastri’s trophy case (including the 4 star) would make him the next on the list. For defense, I’m a believer of looking at more than just offensive stats. So the first name I’m seeing is John Brown (all the following rankings are among Dmen only) being the franchise leader in hits and takeaways, while also being #1 in assists and #2 for points. On a similar note, Ace Lightning finds himself top 3 in pretty much every stat; G/A/P/hits/SB/4th in takeaways. However, Chad Nickelback is the franchise leader in goals and points, and has the rankings boost of being on that S66 championship team. It’s tough though, because he doesn’t place highly in most of the defensive categories. It’s almost impossible to pick, but if I stay true to my own criteria of picking Dmen based on more than just offensive production, I would have to give the nomination to the impressive two-way games of Brown and/or Lightning, and maybe contradict myself and put both instead of a goalie. If I do have to pick one, I think Lightning’s 2 Agante awards over Brown’s 1 would have to be the tiebreaker. Goalies ended up being kind of weird the way our sim works. Dexter Harrison was part of the cup winning tandem and the franchise leader in wins, but was behind good teams and so he ranks in the bottom half of starters in saves and save percentage. The top 3 starters for save percentage all have below a .500 win rate. For this reason, I sadly think I may exclude goalies from the list. For my final ranking, I am pretending that we live in a future where we had one more president worth carving into Mount Rushmore, and so the NBB Mount Rush-even-more goes to Bender Junior, Alekss Ivanova, Alexi Piastri, Ace Lightning, and John Brown in no particular order.
