Going into the playoffs and the season coming to an end, surely many eyes are on the top teams and their high scorers, but I'm going to take a deeper look into the teams hanging out in the middle so see what’s going on there. Which players will go the extra mile and make a noticeable impact on the team?
Starting off with Thunder Bay Walleye, currently in 10th Place. Equally as many wins and losses and no player among the top scoring in the League. There's arguably room for more for the Walleyes. However, they have some great players to work with. Looking at the top scorer of the team we find Puddles O'Duckling on top with 56 points at the moment. He has scored 22 goals and 34 assists and a lot of time on the ice with 20:33. The Walleyes seem to do the right thing giving a lot of ice time for this player. Will O'Duckling continue on this point mission in the playoffs and moreover - Who's going to accompany him? My guess is that Chaos Giraffe will come forward and all the shots fired on goal will start to pay off. So far Giraffe has scored 17 goals and has 22 assists making it 39 points in total. With a bit more ice time maybe some confidence will build and the shots fired will equal even more goals. Continuing with Detroit Falcons we find a similar vibe, where Falcons got 28 wins and 25 losses. Their top scorer Theo Kane has a solid scoresheet with 70 points, but I’m interested to see what Jeffrey Bjelland can show us going into the playoffs. Bjelland has a few seasons in his skates and is given a lot of ice time. For that Bjelland has scored 27 goals and has 35 assists. Considering Bjellands experience, this should be a player showing their team the way in the playoffs. Going on to the defense one thing stands out from the rest of the team and that is left defense Maverick Reynolds with a +/- of +14. Reynolds does an excellent job on the ice and paves the way for teammates. With 3 goals and 32 assists I’m excited to see Reynolds continue to contribute in the playoffs. The last team I took a deeper look at is the St Louis Scarecrows, who currently have 29 wins and 21 losses. Rookie Jean Bon has an average ice time of 21:26 and it’s clear Bon shows up as a steady defender with 4 goals, 24 assists and a plus/minus rating of +9. This rookie will surely be a key player in the crows defense both in the playoffs and in seasons to come. As of the point scorers I need to mention Louis Belanger who has 75 points and is the team leader in that area. The former right wing has found a place to call home at center and will of course be a key player this playoffs. The last player I’m going to mention is Jonny Fox who has won a fight this season. Jonny will show bravery and lead the team with physicality. In the tight playoff games, physicality and Jonnys team spirit will make an impact.
