The SMJHL is for some already one third of the way through the season and for others very close. With each team having played between 18-22 games, lets take a closer look at how teams are doing so far starting at the top of the standings
1. Quebec City Citadelles in 22 games the Citadelles are 17-4-1 and its no fluke, The team has a +53 goal differential! but why have they been so good? lets start with the skaters. In 22 games 7 out of the 10 forwards have already surpassed the 20 point mark with 2 more at 19 and 18 points so theres no problems in the scoring department. Every single defenseman has a +/- of 8 or better, when your team is on the ice for more goals for and against, your always going to have a better chance to win. Last but certainly not least, the goaltending, the starting goalie Ela Solberg has really froze the soul (get it? no... ok) of the opposing team. with a 14-4-1 record, a 2.34 GAA and a .921 save percentage. its no wonder the team has been so good. There are so many good things about this team its no surprise they are in first place. 2. Newfoundland Berserkers 16-4-1 One of the big factors for this team has been the special teams. with a power play of 22.7 percent and penalty kill of 86.7 percent, those kind of numbers are a good sign for this team moving forward 3. Carolina Kraken 13-4-4 a big part of the teams has been goalie Honza Havran. a record of 8-1-2, a GAA of 2.13 and a save percentage of .924, Havran might be the biggest piece of the team this season 4. Colorado Raptors 14-5-0 goals, Earlier i said special teams are important, well the Raptors have an amazing 32.8 power play percentage, this team can get it done on the power play. 5. Anchorage Armada 13-5-1 In 19 games RW Elaina Beneski has 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists), the driving force of there offense 6. Yukon Malamutes 12-5-1 Goalie Jakub Alexa is 8-2-0 with a GAA of 2.78 and save% of .920 as well as 2 shutouts. Alexa could be one of the top goalies this year 7. Maine Timber 11-9-0 Despite the middle of the pack record, the Timber have 3 players over 30 points already and 5 over 20 points, this team is not a team to sleep on 8. San Diego Tidal 10-9-2 The Tidal have been another middle of the pack team, but with the offense of first year player Josie Cass, things could change very quickly 9. Nevada Battleborn 10-10-1 The record might be a little deceiving, they have a good amount of depth on the forward lines with 7 of 10 forwards in double digit points already. 10. Kelowna Knights 9-11-1 despite the record the team has one of the best power plays at 31.9 percent 11. Ottawa Highlanders 9-10-0 Spaceman Spiff has an amazing 30 points in 20 games and a 22.9 shooting percentage! Spiff is really working hard to keep the team in the playoff race 12. Vancouver Whalers 7-12-3 Goalie Trent Mackenzie has been terrific with a .920 save percentage 13. Great Falls Grizzlies 6-11-2 The record might not be the best but the teams shooting percentage is looking pretty good 14. Thunder Bay Walleye 5-10-3 They might have more losses than wins but the games are usually close games, not a lot of blowouts 15. St. Louis Scarecrows 5-13-2 Looking at the player ratings, i think this team will grow and get better 16. Detroit Falcons 5-18-0 Someone has to be last unfortunately right now its the Falcons
