Marton Diehm Retirement Press Release

Outwit ✅
Outplay ✅ Outlast I don't remember the first PT where I mentioned Survivor, just a little quirk I threw in after likely having just half-watched an episode of a recent, boring season. But then I just. kept. referencing it. Before I knew it, Marton Diehm was watching old episodes on a VHS player he demanded be installed in the locker room of LaSalle Arena. And now he's created the Island Gym, a local fitness center and health bar that definitely doesn't infringe on any copyrights. And with that, he's been thinking more and more about life beyond the rink. The immunity idols are gone and he's been thinking about Ponderosa. Some things are easier to say than to do. Marton was created while I awaited the birth of my daughter, a time I knew many hobbies would have to be set aside as my life changed drastically. The SHL seemed like a fun place to hang out and something I can keep up with during some scant free time on my phone. It’s been 30 months since then, my daughter is already becoming a hockey fan in her own little way, and the SHL has become a fixture in a way I never imagined. I’ve been the SHL All-Star Head for 6 months already!? But it feels like the right time for Diehm to hang up the skates, to turn a page and feel that new-player excitement again. I crafted Marton as a combination of Tomas Holmstrom and Igor Larionov, a scrappy and intelligent player, adept at special teams, always ready to give his all for the team. True to that vision, he’s led Texas in hits for six straight seasons and led them in assists for half of those; he topped the league for hits twice with three other appearances in the top 10 and three appearances in the top 10 for assists. He's just 56 points from a career 1000 (regular season and playoffs combined; is that cheating?) and is already over 1500 career hits, so one more go around should be a nice capper. While making the All Star Game twice and grabbing some international golds, his only individual award came back in the J… for being the most underrated player. With that in mind, my first thanks goes to @sve7en for taking the chance on me in my first draft, for the welcoming atmosphere of Carolina, and for teaching me so much about the league. And similarly to @CapnCooper and @Anthique for just everything in Texas; you brought me in before I'd proven myself and then just let me do things like design a new rink and a whole dang arena. I know it was the early seasons of rebuilding the franchise and you've done such an amazing job, it's been such a fun journey to be part of. I'm not disappointed we haven't won a cup; I'm sorry I couldn't bring one home for you! But only one team can win each season and we put such a good run together, got oh-so-close, and the ride of being in the Renegades locker room has always been a fun one. A massive thank you to @Frenchie, who has absolutely taken this league by storm but who started as my first friend in the S68 server and then playing in Carolina together. You eventually got me over to Ireland where we won some medals together, and we chat way too much for people who live in the same city and have only the vaguest idea of what the other looks like. That whole S68 class is just legendary and I'm going to miss some shoutouts because of how many amazing people I met there. Obviously @downer, my longest serving linemate in Texas, just an honor to play with you and rack up the stats together. @lore, who everybody loves and I've contrived to hang out with in every possible league and server. @Ruggsy and @alemanpete who I play D&D with every week our schedule allows, just continuing to put up with the nonsense game I GM, complete lunatics. I'm not going to ping everyone I've roped into the SHL/NHL Fantasy League bc they don't need the alerts and I'm just retiring, I'm not dead. In fact, I am being reformed right now, making good on a promise 897 days in the making... ![]() ![]() SMJHL GM SHL's resident zoomer ![]() Portal Admin Probably cranky

This one retiring is something particularly hard, and truly a confirmation of a near revolute time. Absolute legend fara, fortunately (or un?) we'll keep bitching about IRFA tickets together, and i'm grateful for that!
