From number one overall pick to biggest bust in NWJHL history before the pre season even starts? Montreal Impact star prospect Roman Schultz attended Rookie Development Training Camp with the rest of the Impact players this week, but immediately afterwards he went somewhere else. That somewhere? Rehabilitation.

Roman checked himself into the Montreal Center For Personal Care this afternoon after an off ice issue arose between Roman and members of the staff. The team released only the following statement :

"Roman is a valuable member of the Montreal Impact organization and we wish him well during this troubled time. We will be in close contact as he gets the help he needs and we hope to see him rejoin the team shortly. We ask that his privacy be respected during this time and the team will have no further comment on the matter."

The young Defenseman was set to begin the season playing a key role on Montreal's blueline and was quickly becoming the face of the Impact team. All of which is in jeopardy now that Roman has entered into Anger Management and Substance Abuse Counseling.

Roman spoke with our affiliate KMTL reporter Marc Fields just before leaving the rink at the end of Training Camp. "I want to apologize to the ones I've hurt or been unfair to. I see now that it was not your fault nor mine but it is the sickness inside me that's to blame. I need help and I plan to get it. I will return and I will do so as a better player and a better teammate." Schultz quietly read his prepared remarks to the small press pool outside the Locker Room.

Indeed a troubled young man and a troubling way for Montreal to start their season. They need players like Roman Schultz to be 100% not in Anger Management therapy. Look for the Impact to quietly shop around for a replacement Defender should this situation drag out. Then again, how do you replace a player like Roman Schultz days before the season begins?
