Who are the favorites? East Division
#1

Welcome to the "who are the favorites" special. Last week's "Who are the favorties special" created such a buzz around the league and it looks as though this one will too! We sent in our worst scout Pierre Maguire to the North West Junior Hockey league East division. We have many questions about the east division. Will they have a champion from there again this year? Are the Falcons expected to repeat? Will the Hitmen be relevent for once in a long time? Will the Impact avenge that very dramatic Junior season last year? Will all of the picks they had and good send downs go to usage? Or will it be like last season? We will all find out later, but for Now Pierre has found his way into the teams practices and preseason games!

Pierre has been known to be very disliked in the TSN community and we wanted to get rid of him, so here are his reports about the other teams.

The first place Pierre viseted was the great city of....

CHICAGO, the Chicago Hitmen are up first.
The Hitmen had a nightmare of a season last year and are looking to make sure that this season is not the same. The Hitmen had there first pick at the number three spot. They chose the can't go wrong pick in Benoit Fortescue. He is a big bodied defensive defenseman and could really shut down opposing teams. He is 6'6 and could have been the number one overall pick arguably. What sets this years Hitmen apart from last year is that they are way more defensively balanced and their goal is to be able to shut down the other teams not to outscore them like last year.

Their next pick was the "Sex Panther" Mike Verminsky, he is one of the players that was previously scouted by the, "taron scouting service"
Code:
He reminds us of a Edwin Ask type of goalie, we have not seen a Gregory Thompson goalie this year though. What reminds us of Ask is he is a very balanced goalie and is not too great at an area of his game but he is not bad at any part of his game. What we think he should be working on as part of his game for the next few weeks is his reaction time, though it is good if he wants to become a great goalie and be one of the best in the North West Junior Hockey league history, then he needs to work on that!

Expectations
After beating the "favorites" in many people's opinion, they lost to them. Could these two teams be equal during the season? Maybe, but this team is probably going to be around .500 during the season and will not be coming close to the winner of this division. BUT we have one expectation, they will have a player go 1st overall! It will be almost like a repeat of last year. We wish them luck and hopefully our expectations were wrong!

next he went a bit up North... He went to!
DETROIT, The Falcons are up!
The Falcons are the defending champions and for a good reason, the Falcons were always known to draft really well which is really important considering it is pratically a new roster every season. No one should question the Falcons GM's considering their great history but some people have already due to their idea of moving up to get Brandon Donini with the 2nd overall pick. Brandon Donini is the best Power forward we have seen in a very long time in the NWJHL. He is a great scorer and a great skater. One of the things he has to work on almost immediatly is his skating, his skating is possibly the most important thing that sticks out from his weaknesses. Though Brandon Donini is not the best player in the draft so far, he definiatly has the highest upside, he could become one of the best players in Falcon history, going up with people like, Sergey Kovalenko, Jason Michaels, Greg thompson, Smirnov Light, Kevin LeBacon and many more.

The next pick of theirs at 8th overall was Kaspar Abraham! Kaspar is a pretty well balanced player on the offensive side of things. He reminds us of a Smirnov Light coming into the league but we have heard rumors that he is a power forward and that would be a really nice wrecking crew of Donini and Abraham!

The Falcons also have one of the best goalies in the league in Greg Thompson, the goalie who led the Falcons to the 4 star cup last year. He is what many of the new coming goalies really need to become, someone who has a great reaction time and just needs to keep it out of the net, nothing else really matters.

Expectations
The Falcons did really well in preseason but will it carry over? again it was done before teeam pracitces and training camp. We do expect them to keep the scoring of the other team down only if Thompson plays well. They have some very good scoring but they have to win games by outscoring the other teams, not letting them score less than them. With their first defenseman picked being the 29th overall pick we do not expect a good defensive team. We expect Donini and Abraham connection to be dominant, but we also expect that the team will be a top team in the league if not the east.

Pierre's Next trip was off to Montreal, Why? he has no where else to Go!
The Montreal Impact had many good send downs and many high picks and look as if they are going to be the favorites in the whole league. Having 3 picks in the top 7 and 6 great send downs this team looks to be one of the best teams in North West Junior Hockey League History. They can not be the favorites though without their picks, their first pick is the hardest working junior so far, Roman Schultz. Schultz was the number one overall pick and is a very big bodied defenseman, at 6'8 250 pounds he can move around really well. He is great defensively, is a very good passer, and very great skater, but their is one thing that really sets him apart is his puck control. He can keep the puck on his stick and shield it away from other players so well which is something that the Impact need, htey can not have turnovers all over the place.

Next up at 4th overall they picked Rehn Miller, he is a playmaking center who they knew would be playing on their 2nd line almost immediatly, but what allowed him to want to play 2nd line is that he knew that if he did so, he could win the cup. He reminds us of their 1st line center, Smirnov Light, we believe that he is also giving him tips on what to work on and how often to train and not fatigue because they are so alike. He is a great passer and face off man. What also sets him apart is again his puck control and skating ability is what could help make the Impact great.
And their last really important pick which we will cover is, Right Wing, Stefano Di Gennaro, he is a great scorer and looks lucky to have Smirnov Light by his side and now all he has to do is shoot pucks straight into the net. He is a great skater and puck handler and can blow right past the defense. He reminds us of an Ivo Willems and with him being his agent, could he repeat what he did last season? We think so.

Next are the send downs, Joel Westbrook, Smirnov Light, Chris Serpe, Corey Tripp, Fabien Furbergh, and Jan Benda. What makes these send downs different? they could play on almost any SHL team right now other then the ones they are on, both the Steelhawks and North Stars are filled with talent but they are both kind of young, they are still developing a bit but there is just no room. All of these guys will look for historic type years in the NWJHL this season.

Expectations
After being called the favorites before the preseason, did they back it up? No, they went 2 and 2, but they were an even 0 difference between goals allowed and scored. Could that have just been a wrong look at things? After 2 recent signings it looks as if they have made a very strong team much stronger. It looks as though they have their top 9 and top 4 handled out but they also have a good send down goalie that could help the team make it far. We expect them to make the finals.

That is it for the East Division previews. Who is the clear cut favorite? Will the Hitmen be able to win the hardest division? Wait! is this the hardest division?

Stick in and watch the NWJHL daily, we will have power rankings up every Sunday, From TSN. We Sign off.
