In a world where the Las Vegas teams wanted to get lots of money, but forgot about it midway through the season. This is that story.
In Wait by MacDaddy MacPherson is as anxious as a kid on Christmas. A new season means a new beginning and no one wants a better start. In the person, he posted some respectable numbers. Gaining some momentum but falling short to the strong Winnipeg Jets each time. "They are going to be a problem all year, I can see that. We have to work and find their weaknesses." Mac was quoted as saying. He is wise to think so as well, the Jets are a strong contender for the Cup this season and there is a strong chance that if the Kings were to make the finals they'd be the team to beat. "We are working hard. We ever get Raycroft out of bed before noon and old man Chiclets if we start around midnight" Mac said with a laugh. "Seriously though the boys have come together in the lockerroom and outside of it as well." Now here we are several days into the twelfth season of the Simulation Hockey League and MacPherson and the Kings are sporting a 2-1 record and Mac is among the league leaders in goals against average with around a 2.43 and 0.920 save percent. "Not a bad start, we have five points in four games. Still above five hundred. I hope we can string some wins together and get the some momentum going. An interview with James Blaineby LVShark James, how do you feel about the kings start to the season? It is going great so far. the guys seem to be clicking and we are doing very good. Were off to a quick start, and a lot better then many people probably expected. Hopefully we can keep this pace up and carry it throughout the entire year. Mr. Blaine, how do you feel about your play in the first couple of games? I need to pick it up. I only have a 1 or 2 points in the first four games. Thats not acceptable for me while playing on the first line. Im letting my team down as well as my linemates Duddy and Raycroft. I know we are winning but I still need to bare down. You never know when a missed opportunity will cost you a win. Who has stood out to you the most in the first couple of games? Lange seems to be playing really well in the offensive zone as well as back in our own end. He's been consistent with getting his name on the score sheet and he's been a great leader for us and our young guys. Hopefully he will keep that pace up the entire year. Another Storyby Ramicus It was with joy that the tall Israeli Iceman slipped on his navy blue jersey with the big four on the back. He knew he wouldn't be playing tonight, it was opening night after all. But slipping on the real thing instead of the red practice jersey he had been wearing on the ice the past few months. He flexed his hands, preparing for a fun night of opening and closing the bench door. At least he was getting better at it. The tan teenager was young, much too young for a sinful place like the Kings' locker room. And yet he fit in perfectly, well-liked by nearly everyone else. He smiled, remembering his first time in the stadium. It had been when they were still playing in... in... that other place, he didn't remember the name. He had been so excited, until he found that little slip showing how to open that door. He had been so upset, which showed how little he knew. Opening that door and joking with his teammates, almost better than sitting in the crease all alone. Which was not to say that he wouldn't rather be playing, but it was Opening Night, and they needed to start off the new year with a win. He was ready. Touching lightly his left upper-arm, then his forehead, he kissed his fingers and grabbed his helmet. There was no way he would need it, but, you know, "be prepared" and all that. He touched the mezuzah (he had put it up himself), made his way down to the rink. The seat at the end looked almost like it had been molded to match his posterior. He waved to the crowd and sat down, hi-fived some of his friends, along with the rookies he had scouted, and made sure the door was in working order (it was). He smiled. Gentlemen and Kings, start your engines. It's time for Season Twelve." Talking in front of a mirrorby Duddy "We had a nice start with going 2-0 in our first 2 games, but the last 3 haven't been as good as planned. We gotta work harder again and get more scoring chances." "The blowout against the Blizzard really sucked, but what can you do? I didn't do my part in scoring that game and it showed. We failed to get more pucks into high scoring areas of the ice. Hopefully our next game will be better. We're still playing good and sooner or later the goals will come once again" A night with the Kingsby Joester09 He loved it, being the fighter, Especially in Las Vegas, with the the wierdest, most glorious team in the SHL, the Kings. The Comradeship of Hockey, he felt it all as Charlie Chiclets skated over to the box to bring Joey Langdon his gloves and stick. John Grossman of the Manhattan Rage had attacked Chiclets off the draw. It was guarunteed to turn in to a rough game as Las Vegas was already up 5-0 with still 14:06 to go in the first period. Both men got their punches in and fought to a draw. "Hey!" Said Charlie, snapping Joey out of his trance. "Nice Fight, or Fights I should say." It was true, it was Langdon's second fight of the night, Meb Kefleghzini had jumped him just 1:42 in to the game. The fight energized the team as the Kings scored 4 goals while he was in the box. Leaving the rink at about 11:49 that night (With all the goals and penalties in a 7-1 game, it ran late) It still felt like day time if for only a second as the Kings walked out of the MGM Grand Arena and seeing the bright Casino lights, it only took the Kings about seven minutes to lose track of one of their own as James Blaine went missing on the way to the Team Dinner. Yehuda Ben-Lev, the teams back-up goalie found him in an alley covered in bruises and cuts eating Klondike bar. At the team dinner at the Sapphire Gentlemen's club (sans Ben-Lev lementing they had no kosher options to which Tomas Duddy respoded "I think the one girl, Dana i think is Jewish") They gave Langdon a Fake I.D since he was only 19 "It's not unethical, 'cause I'm legal back home" (The drinking age in his hometown of Woodstock, Ontario is 18) Before once again one of the Kings went missing as they lost track of Marshall MacPherson. About an hour later Marshall was held up by a large man by the collar, and Mac's not wearing any pants. "This guy belongs to you?" Langdon said "uhhh, i dont know ask Thomas." "Fuck you Joe!" So Duddy comes by. "This man belong to you?" says the big dude. Duddy responds. "Yeah, why?" "He stole $1000 worth of merchandise, you gotta pay me back." Duddy then walks away non-chalantly. "Fuck these guys, I got you Daddy Mac, now how much is it?" Robin Karlsson says as he walks towards them "one grand" replies Marshall. "Well fuck. Fine, you owe me Mac." And Robin paid the man. Marshall then punched Thomas square in the face. "What the Fuck?" Charlie then tried to run interference, but Marshall kicked him in the testicles. He then ran at Joey and Joey punched him in the face, Marshall's head snapped back and stood, dazed, Kyler Lange tackled him, Joey kicked him in the face, Yehudah (lets just pretend he turned 21 the night before) then ran in and seperated them. As they all headed to their shared apartments (Langdon/Ben-Lev MacPherson/Lange Chiclets/Blaine Karlsson/Harden Duddy/Due) at 3:50 am, they sleep for 6 hours then got on a plane at 10 am to go to play a big game in Hamilton at the Copps Coliseum, where as predicted, Riley Raycroft will show up late with his pants on backwards, Yibbles will drink a extra large milkshake, Langdon will punch the wall a la Ross Rhea in Goon and the Kings, Hockey above all, will play their best game ever, every night. New Season's Resolutionsby Shutout After the Kings 2nd win in a row to start off the season Riley "Riot" Raycroft was beaming as he strolled out of the locker room. "This season is kind of like a New Year's Resolution for us. We're gonna lay off the drugs. We're gonna lay off the booze. We're gonna lay off the gambling, the hookers, the fights, the pool parties, the strippers, the binge eating... the binge drinking... the fun. We're gonna focus. We're gonna play hockey. We are gonna practice, practice, practice. We are going to be the team to beat in the SHL." He saluted the reporters. "To sobriety," he smiled. He walked off stage as the team followed him in a cheery mood. ---------------------------------------------------------- The next morning Raycroft strolled in with vomit on his shirt. Chiclets showed up next carrying a beer. "Back in my day," he rambled on, "We didn't need to wear fuckin' cups" and with that he stumbled over into the glass and crashed to floor. Langdon walked in with a broken nose, dried blood spewed across his cheek. MacPherson was right behind him with a black eye. Behind the four was Due and Rami standing along the boards. Watching the team stumble into the locker room. They had a game... did they not care? "Ben-Lev," Due said, "I need you to do me a huge favor." "Yes," Ben-Lev responded, knowing what was coming. "Are you sure you can handle it," Due continued, "This is a big responsibility, and I don't think Shutout is up for it anymore." The straight edge Ben Lev had eyes the size of Jupiter. He beamed at Due. It was his moment! Due whipped out a needle, "Raycroft is too fucked up. Please inject me." And with that Due turned around... Ben-Lev sighed, took the needle and got Due his fix. It's going to be another long, but fun season in Sin City. And like every other New Year's Resolution... the promise of sobriety had only lasted a couple weeks. The Ballad of a reporterby MacDaddy A long night lay ahead for the men on the other side of the Las Vegas lockerroom. It would be a long night for me as well. Here in Vegas, things are never quiet and not looking forward to what was on the otherside of the door less then trying to get to sleep for an 8am flight proved truthful as the door was opened. Several curse words tumbled over my eardrums as MacPherson stood in the corner destroying his sticks, wall and pretty much anything else he could get ahold of. Several teammates were watching, a few more were ducking as things sailed their way through the air. Looks like the old Mac to be truthful, angry and pissed off at himself for allowing seven goals in a single game versus the Edmonton Blizzard. Rivals since their days in Vancouver and none lessened by the move south, Mac is visibly upset and embarrassed. I am supposed to write his quote here upon asking his thoughts on the game but it is with my understanding from our editor "That no publication in the world will print that" You can only imagine and I could barely believe but last I saw of Mac, He was walking down the Vegas strip with a bottle of alcohol in his hands at 620am when I left to catch my plane. The Greatest Story ever toldby The_Real_BK Placeholder Money Grabby Nagy9 Nagy Galchenyuk just had his first SHL game where he was starting. This was a very special night for Galchenyuk but this wasn’t the best part for him. Galchenyuk would go and get an assist for his 1st SHL point during the 1st period. Galchenyuk would also score his first SHL goal to put the Kings up 4-0 over the Panthers. Galchenyuk’s line mate Cameron Gibson was quick to grab the puck for him and bring it to the bench. Galchenyuk then experienced something he never thought he would feel in his first season. After the game Galchenyuk was called out as the first star! This is the start to Galchenyuk and his promising SHL career Supplementsby Duey722 Due, you just beat the Panthers twice in a row, and are now near the top of the Conference. Did you see this team being this competitive early on in the season? Due: "Yes, yes I did. We've gotten a new shipment of product that 'enhances' our skills, and we've done very well when we tested it against the Panthers the last 2 nights." What are these "enhancements?" Due: "Well, I obviously am not going to tell you what the product is. It could be new hockey gear for all you know. Heck, it could be some new spring water from the Rockies that we are drinking. What happens in our facilities, stays within our facilities. That's all I'm going to say. Ten Games Inby Duddy 10 games into the season, the Kings are on top of the Western Conference. You guys must be pretty happy about that? TD: Yes, totally awesome, I knew that we'd have a good team this year, but being on top was unexpected. Did you goals change for the season or are you guys still in just make the playoffs mode? TD: It'd be foolish to change our expectations. We're still expecting to battle for 3 or 4th in the conference. Everything else would be gravy. How would you rate your own season up to this point? TD: I'm happy with how the team performance, but my own leaves a lot to desired. But I try to focus one day at a time and try to get better and better each day. Maybe I start a scoring streak soon and kick some ass along the way. Post Game Press Conferenceby Duddy It was basically a perfect game for us. Our defense played great preventing the Jets to get any sort of momentum. Our offense showed up when it mattered, scoring 5 goals to take home a win against one of the best teams in the league. Ben played a great game between the pipes, the kid is having himself a great season thus far. I'm proud of him, always keeping his spirit up, being happy all the time. Perfect back up and future starter for our team. I think we're getting better and better each game, will be one heck of a ride for the rest of the season. Milkshake Machineby Ramicus "Great game, Ben!" "Nice netminding, Ben!" People were shouting at him from all sides as he walked slowly through the big room. He was trying to just drink it all in, though it still bothered him when people called him "Ben" instead of his real first name "Yehudah" or his full last name "Ben-Lev." "Hey, Duddy! How many games do I need to win before we get a milkshake machine!?" They owed him one. He was having a great season! Then an idea dawned on him. Picking up his phone, his fingers flew over the touchscreen until he was on the phone with Yam. "Lake Mead. 45 minutes." That gave him about twenty minutes to get changed, but it took him a heck of a lot less than that. As he was on his way out, he stopped by the captain. "Milkshake machine. Make it happen, man." fifteen games inby LVShark James, how do you feel about the teams recent play? Its great! we are on a role and right now nothing can stop us. We just need to keep building off of what we have and hopefully we can keep this train rolling in the right direction. Do you feel you are playing better? Yes and no. I feel like im helping the team in more ways then just offense. I've worked on becoming more of a complete player. Instead of just offense, I try to help in the defensive zone as well as the neutral zone as well. Ben-Lev has stood on his head in net. Is there anything you want to say about that? Ben-Lev has been an amazing player for us. He really worked hard to get to this point and he deserves this. He has served his time in MacP's shadow, and now he finally is getting the credit he deserves. I believe in him! He is going to carry us all the way And them we forgot about it, the end. |
