With the extended break in the playoffs going on the Calgary Dragon’s took the time off to enjoy a mini award banquet for charity. Tickets were sold to the event at a staggering $500.00 a pop, all in all 300 people came to enjoy and all proceeds were being donated to the local Boys and Girls charity club. After the awards were done they had a silent auction to raise a little more for the clubs once again, the biggest cash prize came as no surprise as Ryan Jesster donated his final game’s mask to the charity, it pulled in $135,365.00 for the charity, not to be out done by Kain Webb’s 1st goal puck that brought in $120,355.00. All in all, the entire whole event was quite a success as the event raised nearly $500,000.00 for the charity.
The winners of awards were: The Top Gun Award (Goal Scoring Leader) Chris McZehrl – 24 points on the season really helped cement the Dragon’s president’s trophy this season. Wing Man Award (Most Assists) Kain Webb – he lead all forwards with 36 assists this season, quite a task for an aging forward, proving that you don’t always have to score in order to help a team win. Air Miles Award (Most Points) Chris McZehrl/Kain Webb – 55 points apiece, I think the two of them had a plan all season long to finish with a tie in points this year Stay Positive Award (Best Plus/Minus) Kain Webb/Audun Wissink - +19 is nothing to sneeze at and it was two of the oldest members on the team to get it done, something that the new guys can aspire too. Cold FX Award (Worst Plus/Minus) Markus Lokt - -9, now he amassed that -9 with another team, but it was still the worst on the roster sorry Markus. Ram Tough (Most Penalty Minutes) Chris McZehrl – Playing the role of enforcer Chris had 93 penalty minutes and got into 5 fights through the 50 game season…when did he have time to get the 24 goals? Mr. Clean Award (Least Penalty Minutes) Antero Salmelainen/Robert Spezza – 0, not one penalty between the two of them, both playing significant time neither one took a free shot at an opponent this year. MC Hammer Award (most hits) Vladislav Smirnov – With 146 hits Smirnov has been laying opponents on the ice all season long. Tiger Balm Award (Most blocked shots) Vladislav Smirnov – putting his body on the line for the team is nothing new for this all-star, he threw it out there 56 times this year. Where’s Waldo Award (Unsung hero) Raymond Lyndsay – While playing nearly half the time the other forwards on the team played he made the most of his time, 5 goals 3 of which were game winners. Dolly Parton Award (Biggest Bust) Markus Lokt – For what the Dragon’s gave up to get him not much has come back in return, they better capture a great second rounder pick, because Lokt has yet to show anything for the Dragons. Gold Nugget Award (MVP) Chris McZehrl – The guy was amazing, 24 goals, played the role of enforcer for the team and still managed to be a great co-GM. Finally… Energerizer Bunny Award (Life time achievement) Ryan “The Franchise†Jesster! This guy will always be the greatest Dragon to ever lace up his skates and we wish all the best in his future endeavors. Sig by Lazyeye
