It didn't take long for shl offensive defensman, the legend Jed Mosley to get his majestic hands back into the great league that is the SHL. Last night he unveiled his newest project a man born in Finland, playing in the USA known as George Feeny. "Mr. Feeny", as he is known by his classmates, is a tall smooth skating Center who has the ability to play wing, with hands that rival a young Elias Armia. There are a lot of similarities between the student and the teacher, but there is a glaring difference. Feeny is a natural born scorer, something which took Mosley 4 years to finally learn. " He is as gifted with his soft hands, just like a young Alex Reay," Mosley had to say about the speedster going on to say that "The SHL better take notice because this kid will light the lamp on the Mike Verminski's of the league and skate circles around guys like Chris Partlow. While he may have a number of tools in the box, it is an interesting and hard fought lifestyle which somehow molded a hockey player in small town Finland and later Philadelphia. "Where I am from, you grew up with Allen Iverson and the 76ers, as well as the greatness that was the Philadelphia Eagles, but somehow it was hockey that really caught my eye" said Feeny. It was at the age of 3 that he caught his first glimpse of live NHL action with his uncle in a game featuring his favorite San Jose Sharks going up against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Feeny was in awe, " Seeing a young Vincent Damphousse scoring a sick goal against Curtis Joseph, was something to behold and it was at that time that I knew I wanted to learn how to skate and take it from there", oh how he took it.
He was given a pair of used skates and just took it from there, "It was amazing how quickly he picked up the movements and was gliding" said Mike Feeny, father of George. He was signed up for hockey at the age of 5 and from then on dominated all throughout his youth. With the smooth strides and natural ability to bury the puck, Feeny tought everyone just what it meant to be a hockey player. Feeny made his highschool team right out of his first year and played 3rd line to start the year, and from the get go Coach Wilson Starks knew that position on the depth chart wasn't going to last long. "He was definently our best player from day 1, he just dominated everyone solely with his speed, nobody and I mean nobody could keep up with the kid". At the end of his first year playing in an extremely competitive league, Feeny had 62 pts in 35 games, good enough for first in league scoring on a very mediocre team. While he was offensivly gifted, he also had alot of emotional issues and temperment problems which showed both on and off the ice. On the ice he was suspended for three games for a brawl that broke out after Feeny was hit from behind. To go along with that mean streak, Feeny throughout the 4 years of highschool was suspended multiple times for violence as well as small drug related issues. These issues were very apparent when scouts came knocking, as instead of recieving a number of offers, he recieved 3 offers, one to try out for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL, a developmental deal the the US development team, or to enter the draft and take his chances in the SHL draft. Feeny chose the latter, "I feel that the amount of talent that is in the SMJHL and the amount of talent that has come out of that league gives me the best opportunity to hone my skills and what is most important to me, to gain that star studded exposure. Along with his agent Jed Mosley, they both feel that Feeny should be a top end player when his career ends. Getting to know Mr. George Feeny Favorite hockey player growing? A) Selanne definitely, one of the best goal scorers of his time. Current favorite SHL Team? A) Obviously the team I play for. The Jets. Favorite SHL Player growing up and currently? A) Favorite former playing is Kain Webb. Just a tremendous goal scorer and all around great guy. Currently it is Kyle Keenan. Fantastic player. NHL team: San Jose Sharks NHL players: Alex Steen and Teemu Sellanne Shootout move: Wrister top shelf Goal celebration: Celebrations are for losers, I score all the time I don't need a celly.. Favourite Hockey Memory: Crosby's golden goal Video game: Sonic and Knuckles Favourite fellow draftee: Walter White, a beast, but a quiet beast. TV show: True Detective Actor/Actress: Emmy Rossum Cartoon: Rick and Morty Website: WWW.Nhl.com Restaurant: ESPN Zone Sport (other than hockey): Golf Breakfast food: Pussy Home-cooked meal: Lasagna Activity away from the rink: Golf Superhero: Aquaman Scouting Report Pros Offensively Feeny is the type of player who loves to have the puck on his stick. He has the ability to speed play up or slow it down when necessary. He has an extremely high hockey IQ and often sees the play before it develops. He has great hands and can make opposing defenders just look silly with some of the moves he pulls with the puck. He also has the ability to deliver tape-to-tape passes to his teammates from almost anywhere on the ice. Feeny's creativity is really something worth the price of admission, he uses his skillset to his fullest ability and is the type of player who can really do it all. Defense is likely the most underrated aspect of Feeny's game. He excels defensively at stealing the puck off of opponents sticks, as well creating turnovers with his skating ability. Feeny also shows a bit of grit in his game when necessary and is definitely not afraid to go in to any areas of the ice. At times he was also used on Windsor's penalty kill unit, never looking out of place. Scouting Report Cons While Feeny is no doubt a great hockey prospect, there are a few concerns about his game. One of the largest is likely the fact that he weighed in at 200lbs at the draft combine. Feeny will likely have to add at least 20lbs to his current frame to compete in the SHL. At times this season Feeny has also shown consistency issues being seemingly invisible some nights. While Feeny is considered an elite offensive talent he likely needs to work on his shot as he does not have a lot of power behind it, this will likely improve as he adds more muscle over the coming years. The other main flaw in Feeny's game is his attitude. He has that me against the world type attitude and it shows on many nights. He beaks at guys, makes stupid decisions that can cost his team and goes back and blames others. He also believes that there is in fact an I in team and he takes that letter and runs with it. If Mr. Feeny is to gain any respect in the SHL he will need to curve that attitude and focus on helping his team win and him producing on a nightly basis in a way that achieves said goal of winning. Pros: Creative, great hands, high hockey IQ, elite offensive talent, defensively aware Cons: Size and Weight, consistency, shot could use improvement, attitude problems. Player comparison : Corey Perry Word Count 1278
