Whalers/SMJHL Power rankings
Last 10 Games.
|
![]() Registered Posting Freak ![]() The Whalers are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games. The Vancouver Whalers had struggled to find their footing this season for the majority of the first half of the season. Just before the midway point, the Vancouver Whalers caught on fire and had finally started to see some amazing displays from rookie Thomas King and one of the SMJHL's top elite players, Magnus Jakobsen. Both players had started the season off performing fairly well putting up strong numbers both individually and as a team. However, as King and Jakobsen simmered off, the club did too. Up until recently, the Whalers had been playing some poor hockey, but it seems as though those times are over now. Let's take a look at leagues recent 10 games and how the Whalers map out. Led by ![]() What to do to continue success? The team has struggled up until the midway point of Season 17 to get going and I believe the league is going to have an extremely hard time at shutting down 2 of the top elite players currently in the SMJHL. ![]() Anrikkanen snipes one top shelf 2. ![]() ![]() Detriot fell 1 point back of the Vancouver Whalers for 13 points out of a possible 20 within the past 10 games played. However, Detriot isn't that far behind the Whalers when it comes to their climbs to the top of the league. The Fans in Detriot make up the largest attendance in the league right now and about 40% of those team jersey all have the last name Anrikkanen on them. Esa Anrikkanen currently is the leagues leading Point and Goal scorer in the league. Oh yeah, and he's a rookie. What to do to continue success? The Falcons need to keep riding the Anrikkanen train because he's been the biggest component to their success thus far. Teams shut him down, you shut down a vital piece of Detriots offense. ![]() Chillin 3. ![]() ![]() When you see that Prince George has a Goals For Average of 3.3 GPG, you wouldn't expect them to have a record of 6-4-0. However, when you also notice that they've let in the 2nd most with 30, you may understand why. What to do to have more success? Prince George is Lovin Mclovin and he's currently one of the leagues top scorers (not players) as a rookie. Team needs to eliminate high scoring chances, as well as maybe fix up some defensive issues? Griffin is a stud, goaltending not the issue. ![]() Pettyfer leads the Impact for goals with 11. 4. :impact: Montreal Impact :impact: (4-4-2) A little shocking consider these guys were the hottest thing in town just a while ago. They're currently in first but they won't be for long if they keep this up. Don't get me wrong, they're not playing terrible. They're playing middle of the pack hockey right now, scoring a lower amount than most. Why? Pettyfer, Arrowny, etc have been under control a little more lately. What to do to get out of the middle? Just like the Impact, wasn't Arrowny running loose not too long ago as well? They're players need to step up to the plate and show that they can still consistently compete with the best teams and players. Also, Walls Save % = ouch. ![]() Stransky undresses Scarecrows Goaltender Dominik Makarov 5. ![]() ![]() They're currently second last in the league and are 2nd last in the past 10 games as well. Poor and inconsistent goaltending throughout the season and the past 10 games in a contirbutor to the cause, as for the most part the team is successful offensively. You couldn't ask for more from Stransky who is playing like the stud he is, with 28 points and in 32 games played. What to do to keep out of last? If you improve that GAA, you will improve. Currently, starting goaltender is in last place among the starting goalies in the SMJHL when it comes to starters GAA. Offense needs to find more consistency, however its a "+" that the majority of players are "+'s". ![]() Impact celebrate a victory against the Scarecrows as the fans boo loudly and curse the French 6. ![]() ![]() Remember those guy who swept both the 2nd and final round in the S16 playoffs to win the Fourstar Championship? No? Me either. Even once upon a time this season, they we're a top the pack, but now find themselves sitting in last place. Don't count the Scarecrows out just yet though. Led by the top Dman pairing of Bodnar (17 pts) and Standfield (10 pts), as well as one of the most consistent lines, players and rookies Nicholas and Joshua Botehlo and Yaroslav Brosteen. How do you get out of this poor streak? Stronger contribution to offensive production from depth players and lines. Got to fix the minuses and possibly see and better save % and GAA from Makarov. Like stated earlier, the team has recently seen strong and consistent play from multiple of their players - whether it be defensemen, forwards or they're goaltending. Thomas King has been seeing large production alongside Jakobsen and is easily a top candidate for rookie of the year and these past 10 games prove that even more. "Thomas King is a top player and I'm lucky to have a top centre like him as my linemate. Yoiu can look at the last 10 games statistics for King and you will see just how important King is to the Whalers Organization and fans. He's top talent, loyalty and leadership all in one folks. Expect him top be a top 3 pick come the SHL draft" ![]() Jakobsen begins his statement in Vancouver. And lastly, I would like to simply give a brief statement on my play recently, as well as the future etc. Comments on this season: "At one point in the season, frustration and the desire to win each grew more and more. We weren't able to play consistent hockey and they were just shutting us down. I'm very happy to see success has finally found our organization. We've worked very hard this season as a team and some of us really deserve it, including the management. As for my play, I couldn't be happier. I've had like three or four 3 point nights and things seem to be clicking. All I can really say to that is fuck yeah" Comments on your future: "Next season I will be playing in my first season with the Hamilton Steelhawks. They had given me a huge opportunity drafting me on draft day and I want to give back them. I have trained my hardest in areas which I feel would make me more of an impact player sooner. I'm excited for the start of my SHL career and look forward to joining the Steelhawks in the future."
