Detroit Falcons Season 19 Awards and Bonuses!

Looking back on the Detroit Falcons S19 season we had some ups and downs but overall played well. We rolled through the pre-season and carried that over to the start of the regular season. Then we never seemed to get on a roll after that, but always played well and everyone worked hard to give us a chance to win every night. A championship just wasn't in the cards for Detroit this season, but we had many great players lacing them up for the Falcons this and it’s time to hand out some hardware.

We in Detroit are always appreciative of our players hard work both on and off the ice and this year was no exception. We had a tremendous group and management is very proud of everyone’s performance. It’s at this time that I would like to announce our Team Awards and Bonuses for the S19 season. Special thanks to JayWhy for his excellent budget management to make this all possible.

Sergey Kovalenko AwardAwarded to the player judged to be most valuable to the team offensively.

Winner: Jackson Hauke - Hauke had an all-star caliber year offensively for the Falcons. He finished #1 in scoring among forwards and #2 overall on the team. His 18 goals led the team and he was also a force physically with 98 hits, which led the league among forwards. He finished 4th overall in league scoring. Just an incredible offensive season by the rookie Jacksone Hauke. He was offensive MVP for Detroit this season without question.

Jackson Hauke Bonus: $ 1,000,000

Gabriel Johansen Award – Awarded to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.

Winner: Martin Daugavins- Daugavins was an absolute beast this season for the Falcons in his send down year. He led the team in points with 43 (11g, 32a) and minutes, averaging over 25 per game. He played in every situation and was easily our defensive MVP this season. He had 61 hits and 61 blocks and played over 1,000 minutes in 40 games. A truly great season for any defenseman and possibly one of the greatest seasons by a defenseman in Detroit history.

Martin Daugavins Bonus: $1,000,000

Tom Corcoran AwardAwarded to the goaltender judged to be the best at this position.

Winner: Colin Schmidt – Schmidt had a solid season in his send down year, in a season where goals were up in the SMJHL and no goalies numbers were great, Schmidt played well and was leaned on heavily for Detroit. In 34 games he managed 15 wins, a 3.44gaa and a .866 save percentage. He also notched 1 shutout. While this may not have been the best season ever by a Falcon goaltender, Schmidt was a workhorse this season and played great for Detroit. He’s left his mark on Detroit and is headed for a great career in the SHL.

Colin Schmidt Bonus: $ 1,000,000

Reggie Williams AwardAwarded to the player judged to be most valuable to the team during the SMJHL Playoffs.

Winner: Nicholas Pedersen - Nico proved that the Pedersen way gets it done in the playoffs as he put up 5 points in 5 games including 3 on the powerplay. This was after a solid 21 points in 40 games during the regular season. He stepped up his game in a big way during the post season and averaged over 23 minutes of ice time per game. He was incredible in the face off circle winning over 57% of his draws. Detroit played St.Louis tough each game and Pedersen was a huge part of their scoring in the post-season. He was tied for the playoff lead in points with Jackson Hauke, his linemate at 5 a piece. Congrats to Pedersen on his awesome playoff performance.

Nicholas Pedersen Bonus: $1,000,000

Kevin Lebacon AwardAwarded to the player judged to have exhibited the best type of leadership and sportsmanship.

Winner: Dakota Rhodes – Rhodes had a huge role on the Falcons since day 1, he was a supportive leader in the locker room and set a great example with his work ethic. He also conducted himself with class around the league and was always a great representative of the Detroit organization. He had a big role on the team serving as our #1 center for the entire season, scoring 23 points. Rhodes served as Alternate captain this year and did an excellent job. We’re glad to award him the Kevin Lebacon award this season and wish him well in the future.

Dakota Rhodes Bonus: $1,000,000

Jamie Rose AwardAwarded to the forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game.

Winner: Jaden Maxfield – Maxy had a great year for the Falcons and was in the running for the Lebacon Award, but turns out he had the best plus/minus among all Detroit forwards this season. On a team that was mostly minus players, Maxy incredibly finished with a +4 rating. That’s pretty remarkable considering he is a sniper and averaged over 18 minutes per game. It goes to show his excellent team first mind-set and his defensive acumen. He’ll definitely blossom into one of the best scorers in juniors next season, but it’s his defensive game that could put him over the top as one of the leaugues best all around players in S20.

Jaden Maxfield Bonus: $1,000,000

Brent Wood AwardAwarded to the player judged to be most underrated throughout the season.

Winner: Barney Tuzis - The Latvian forward flew under the radar most of the season, with not many people know his name or recognizing his scoring ability. He managed to score 12 goals (tied for 3rd on the team) and put up 21 points including 6 powerplay points in around 17 minutes of ice time per game. Tuzis’s game still has untapped potential and he’s on the verge of cracking 200tpe. He has the skills to become one of the Falcons best offensive players, he just needs to take it to the next level.

Barney Tuzis Bonus: $1,000,000

Martins Daugavins Award Awarded to the Defenseman who played the toughest minutes over the course of the season.

Winner: Carl Sledgehammer – Another Latvian, Sledgehammer was our defensive workhorse this season off the 2nd line. He played the toughest minutes on the entire team and always played well. As a defensive defenseman he had 44 hits and 52 blocks, playing just under 20 minutes a game. He didn’t get any powerplay time and was mostly used in a shutdown role, but he came to work every day, never complained and did what was asked of him. Teams need workhorses, especially on defense and Sledgehammer proved he can handle whatever is asked of him.

Carl Sledgehammer Bonus: $1,000,000

Esa Anrikkanen AwardAwarded to the rookie who displayed the hardest work ethic and earned the most tpe over the course of the season.

Winner: Jamie Hawkins– Hawkins was another offensive leader for the Falcons this season finishing 3rd on the team with 29 points, 17 goals, 12 assists and 122 shots. He was a minutes leader among forwards averaging over 21 per game. His incredible work ethic and rate of earning tpe was what really set him apart. He finished the season with 263tpe, which was 23 higher than the next closest Falcon. To put it simply he was an absolute beast and is quickly on his way to becoming a star in the SHL. He set a great example for the rest of the team with his hard work and dedication to improving.

Jamie Hawkins Bonus: $1,000,000

Lucas Smith AwardAwarded to the player judged to be the most un-selfish over the course of the season.

Winner: Clay Parker – Parker signed with Detroit as a highly coveted free agent just after the draft. In 38 games he had 17 points, 14 of those being assists. He came into the locker room and immediately put the team before himself, he was even willing to play defense on the powerplay. Where he had 7 points, helping set up numerous goals on the man-advantage. Parker is the epitomy of am un-selfish player, he’s a true team guy and will do whatever the team asks of him. He’s also a premier playmaker and chooses to distribute rather that shoot. He’s looking like a definite points leader in S20 for the Falcons and they are lucky to have such a quality player in their organization.

Clay Parker Bonus: $1,000,000

Roberts Birkavs AwardAwarded to the player who has the most untapped potential at the end of the season.

Winner: Alexandre Sauve – The offensive defenseman played a ton of minutes this season, averaging over 24 minutes a game and put up 16 points and 53 blocks. All this with under 165tpe. He had a strong season off line 2 defense for the Falcons and logged a ton of powerplay minutes as well. He has a solid build but did not reach his full potential this season. With even minimal work in practice he could become Detroit’s most improved player next season. There’s hope he will become the player everyone in the locker room knows he can be. He has the skills and the knowledge, he just needs to put it into action. Sauve has untapped potential in buckets.

Alexandre Sauve Bonus: $1,000,000

Congrats to all the Award Winners for Detroit this season and thank you for your hard work. The Falcons will hopefully have some of the rookies back for S20 and are looking forward to another fun season in the SMJHL. Smile
