Ryan Johansen
#1

This contract situation looks pretty ugly right now in Columbus, Johansen and his agent are asking for about double of what the Jackets are willing to offer (Jackets offered 6M over 2 years, Johansen wants 12M), so with the two sides so far apart it's gonna be interesting how far this goes and if it really drags out, I wonder if Columbus would start listening to offers on him. The situation does look pretty bleak right now for the Jackets to get him signed any time soon.

12 M for 2 years?

It doesn't seem that bad for a player like Ryan Johansen.

Huge red flag for me. I love Johansen on the ice but pay your dues man. Do what players like Subban did. Sign your bridge and earn those big bucks. As of right now he's worth 4.5ish if 2 years. 5 if for 3 years.

Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

Grew up with him, went to school together and I'm often out with the guy in the offseasons when he's back home in Port Moody. This is so much more complicated than the media makes it out to be, although I do see both sides of the story.

He wants to be a jacket, that's all I can say

No way he'll get 12m, I could see around 7.5m though. Would love him on my team thats for sure.

Well given that the Jackets contacted him when he was 16 years old to tell him they wanted him, and then took him 4th overall when many projected him out of the top 10...

I'd say yeah, he wants to be a Jacket.

4.25M for 2 years would be reasonable for both sides, he can earn a longterm deal afterwards. The longterm deals offered now are pretty bad for him since he'll be worth much more than 5.3M in the next couple of years. If Columbus does in fact get a chance to sign him to a longterm deal like Edmonton did with Ebs/RNH/Hall then I'd take it. Something like 7 years at 6.75M if they truly think his development is linear.

I like the fact that he's so confident that he can earn that type of money, but that's just it. He hasn't really "earned" it yet. He certainty has the potential to do it though.
