Conn Thomson celebrates his 3rd goal of the night

The 1st period was dominated by special teams play, started with Conn Thomson off a great pass from Chris Fekete. It took the Whalers 7 minutes to respond with their own powerplay goal off a Sterling Knight tally, but they weren’t done yet. Since the Whalers were on a 5 on 3 earlier, the 5 on 4 advantage was still enough to let the rookie Pierre-Luc Laflamme score to give the Whalers the lead! But Mike Hawk, the aggressive center, put the Whalers on the kill just a minute later and Jorma Ruutu made the Vancouver players pay with the equalizer. Vancouver went to the locker room discouraged with their tying effort. Conn Thomson would score immediately out of the gate in the 2nd period and once more with 5 minutes left in the game for the hat trick and the Impact road win!

RESULT:
:impact: - 4
Whalers - 2

1st Star – Conn Thomson, :impact: (3G, 1A, 4P)
2nd Star – Rembrandt Q. Einstein, :impact: (0G, 2A, 2P)
3rd Star – Sterling Knight, Whalers (1G, 0A, 1P)

Sean Leonidas scoring the game-winner in Overtime

The 1st period brought us our first bit of excitement at the 7 minute mark when Moosejaw Boudreau sent Etienne Modano the puck for his first goal of the season! Regina would rely on the likes of Alexander Kovalchuk and Deacon Douglas in the 16th minute to put the Force ahead 2-1, but Kelowna’s Xander Mole put in another quick tally in that 16th minute to even the score headed to the 2nd. Brandon Pomery and Keith Trubachev would notch their 4th goals of the season, keeping the score tied at 3 headed to the 3rd. It looked like Regina might win on the road with Christian Blauch’s powerplay goal from the Goalie Interference call, but the man who gave Regina the penalty earlier would redeem himself for Kelowna as Armands Jaks would tie things up with a little over 5 minutes remaining for Overtime! OT wasn’t too long, however, as a late 3rd period Boarding call gave Kelowna the powerplay and Sean Leonidas a chance to notch the game winner!

RESULT:
:force: - 4
Knights - 5

1st Star – Sean Leonidas, Knights (1G, 1A, 2P)
2nd Star – Brandon Pomery, :force: (1G, 0A, 1P)
3rd Star – Keith Trubachev, Knights (1G, 1A, 2P)

Game 16

Rob Pressen makes another save en route to a Falcons win

St. Louis would start the scoring off a Steve Linkos wrap-around with 14 minutes left in the 1st and that’s all the Scarecrows would be able to do! Detroit’s Alex Fischer notched his first goal of the season later in the 1st, Alex Mack followed him in the 3rd with another goal, and with little time remaining, Vsevolod Nikitin took a High Sticking call to give Clay Parker his 5th goal of the season off the powerplay for the Flacons to seal the deal on the road against a tough division opponent!

RESULT:
Falcons - 3
Scarecrows - 1

1st Star – Rob Pressen, Falcons (94.4% SV, 1.00 GAA)
2nd Star – Alex Mack, Falcons (1G, 0A, 1P)
3rd Star – Clay Parker, Falcons (1G, 0A, 1P)

Game 17

Whalers @ :impact:

Valdemorts Karlensons makes a great save for the Impact

Vancouver looked to beat Montreal on the road just like they did last game, but Conn Thomson reminded them early about their defensive flaws, scoring his 4th of the season (all against the Whalers) 5 minutes in. Mike Abell would respond with his 1st goal of the year 4 minutes later after the Impact got off the 2nd of 3 Pas Chien penalty kill situations. Chien would take a 4th penalty in the 2nd and a 5th in the 3rd, but Montreal overcame the defensive deficiency with a Chris Fekete goal on the powerplay after a Truck Stoker tripping violation. The man advantage tally would be the game winner as Montreal wins 2 in a row against the Whalers.

RESULT:
Whalers - 1
:impact: - 2

1st Star – Valdemorts Karlensons, :impact: (96.2% SV, 1.00 GAA)
2nd Star – Conn Thomson, :impact: (1G, 0A, 1P)
3rd Star – Mike Abell, Whalers (1G, 0A, 1P)
