S22 SHL Entry Draft Recap Round Three-Four
#1

<div align="center">The last segment of the S22 SHL Entry Draft Recap!! The last two rounds of the draft, who went where, and a couple words from GM's/Scouts!! Let's get right to it!

--- Round 3 ---

Riot 25. Seattle Riot (via Minnesota Chiefs) - Vuro Vlaters

- After drafting Pavel Bursyuk and Brandon Pomery, the Riot opened up the 3rd round of the S22 SHL Entry Draft by selecting C – Vuro Vlaters. Coming into the draft, Vlaters was the 3rd ranked center on the draft board. Plenty would consider this to be a steal to get an active player with a good amount of TPE in later half of the draft. Vlaters will more than likely continue to develop in the SMJHL, while the Riot continue to build up a strong forward prospect pool moving ahead.

"We didn't pick again until the 20s, though we were very close to moving up a few slots a couple of times. When we did pick, we were able to nab a guy who we all thought would have been long gone in Vlaters. This guy was one of the most developed centers in the draft and we all had him as a top 15 prospect. As a bonus, he's another Latvian, so he and Karl can help each other acclimate, which should be beneficial to both of them."

Rage 26. Manhattan Rage - Thomas Anderson

[Image: Screen_Shot_2015_01_20_at_9_25_07_PM.png]</div>

- The Rage make another strong pick here in Detroit Falcons prospect Thomas Anderson. Anderson, much like Vlaters, is a good forward with the ability to compete in the SHL, but may need some guidance and further training in order to reach that goal. The Rage have a strong core of good, young players, so while they do not necessarily need the assistance of Anderson immediately, it will be nice to develop him in order to make an impact down the road.

"Anderson was underrated coming into the draft, and he fell to #26, where we were happy to pick him up. He has some promise and we are going to do what we can to get him to reach his potential."

<div align="center">Jets 27. Winnipeg Jets (via Winnipeg Jets, via Minnesota Chiefs) - Big Manius</div>
- Manius is a “big” prospect born in Huntington, Long Island. He brings size to the table coming in at 6’9’ and weighing 265lbs. He’s obviously hard to miss on the ice. The Jets see some potential here with the big fella as a two-way defenseman, who has shown flashes of being able to make stellar plays on defense, as well as contribute offensively. He will require some more ice time and being present at team meetings to be a difference-maker though.

"Another quiet prospect, but like Linkos, is driven to become the greatest he can. He brings defensive depth to our squad which we lacked. We were very happy to snag him up late."

<div align="center">Dragons 28. Calgary Dragons - Jordan Uptuck

[Image: Rai1_082510.jpg]</div>

- The Calgary Dragons finally get their first pick of the draft here in the 3rd round. Jordan Uptuck was a low-key but well-performing defenseman last year for the Vancouver Whalers. Someone geared more towards a quieter overall presence but still shows up every week to play. The Dragons will shore up some depth with Uptuck later down the road, as it is expected for Uptuck to possibly return to Vancouver for another shot at the Four Star Cup.

<div align="center">Rage 29. Manhattan Rage (via West Kendall Platoon) - Stacker Pentecost

[Image: PhTG0y8.jpg]
</div>

- The story behind Stacker Pentecost is pretty well-known. 1st overall pick in the SMJHL draft, had the most TPE and activity at the time, then BAM. Disappears. Search crews walked through the woods for days, family and friends couldn’t reach him, more than likely his body laying in pieces at the bottom of the ocean…

…However, the Manhattan Rage feel like their scouts might be able to find this guy and bring him back to the rink. In the 3rd round the Rage felt like it was worth the risk and know that if Stacker ever comes back, it’ll more than likely be with full force.

"Not too long ago Pentecost was the #1 prospect, than he disappeared. We took a chance on him, we are hoping that he comes back and will return to his earlier productivity, which would be a huge addition for us, and if he doesn't, well the risk/reward is definitely leaning in the reward category, as you rarely get anyone good this late anyway.."

<div align="center"><b>Panthers 30. Los Angeles Panthers (via Toronto North Stars, via Edmonton Blizzard) - Tanner Carter

[Image: TSyLcmx.gif]
</div>

- This right winger out of Kelowna quietly goes about his business and putting in work. Not the most vocal character in the locker room or the community, he still shows up and does his job and in the 3rd round that’s all you can ask for. Carter’s style is that of a sniper and has a Four Star Cup on his resume. With some training in Los Angeles he could become a part of another championship run one day.

<div align="center">Panthers 31. Los Angeles Panthers - Mike Abell</div>
- Mike Abell is a Vancouver Whalers product who is sometimes there, sometimes not. Mike is a semi-active guy, who could eventually become a role player or a low-pairing defenseman. He has shown two-way ability with strengths on both scoring and defense. After the draft I believed he was moved the North Stars.

<div align="center">Dragons 32. Calgary Dragons (via Edmonton Blizzard) - Tucker O'Callahan

[Image: eZJpFvk.jpg]
</div>

- After taking Jordan Uptuck earlier in the round, the Dragons select another defensive prospect in Tucker O’Callahan. He was projected early on by ESS as a “Future 2nd Pairing Dman.” However, since the New Year, Tucker has gone off the grid, last seen back on January 3rd, this is purely a speculation pick at this point from my point of view. Essentially a low-risk, maybe average reward if the Dragons can bring him up to date. But with having Uptuck a few picks earlier, they can afford to take a chance like this here.

<div align="center">Panthers 33. Los Angeles Panthers (via New England Wolfpack) - Rayan Pitaniya

[Image: pitaniya.png]
</div>

- Pitaniya is similar to O’Callahan in regards to that he started off pretty well, but has fizzled and been absent at team meetings and practices. His love for the game at this point is in question. He left at Christmas break and hasn’t returned to the scene since. The Panthers are hoping the possibility of return exists here, but if not then this a good, late pick to risk.

<div align="center">Riot 34. Seattle Riot - Sigge Clausson

[Image: FxoMoaZ.gif]
</div>

- Clausson went into the SMJHL late in the year, but still provided help for the Whalers through the end of the season and playoffs. He is a good project pick late here and is essentially a no-risk option for the Riot here, already having drafted Brandon Pomery earlier in this draft. Clausson will be put to the test and hopefully with some time and training, can develop and crack the Riot roster down the road.

"Sigge was a guy we all liked, but he reported to the combine a bit out of shape so he slipped. I'm not sure how he'll play out, but we actually were pretty pleased to see him available at our next pick."

<div align="center">Platoon 35. West Kendall Platoon (via Hamilton Steelhawks, via Texas Renegades) - Noah Jackson

[Image: zk8H8BL.jpg]
</div>

- While the need for a goalie decreased after Harter and Karlesons were taken earlier on, Noah Jackson slipped down to the Platoon here at the 35th overall pick. The Platoon saw some value here and Noah Jackson is sure to aim to make other teams wish they had chose him. An active player who shows up to practice and is adamant on getting better. He will be heading back to St. Louis to work on some aspects of his game and get better overall, while hopefully giving the Crows a crack at a championship.</b>

”Our last active pick, Noah is the third goalie selected in the draft. I have only interacted with him briefly, but he seems like a pretty chill guy who wants to do his part. So after discovering that I felt pretty good about selecting him here. We will work with him to make his player strong and be a top goalie one day.”

<div align="center">Renegades 36. Texas Renegades - Conn Thomson

[Image: EANp4l4.gif]
</div>

- There is a theme going on here in the 3rd round, which is fairly common. Conn Thomson was drafted 9th overall in the S21 SMJHL Entry Draft and is basically semi-active to inactive these days. With the Renegades first pick in this draft however and with Conn’s history, this again is an example of a late round, low-risk, high-reward type of pick. Since there aren’t any pressing needs in Texas right now, this a great pick for them to take late.

"Thomson started the season off great. He was practicing hard and it showed off on the ice. Unfortunately for whatever reason, he started to slack off. When we saw him available at our pick, we thought he was worth taking a chance on. If he gets his head where it needs to be, he will undoubtedly be the steal of the draft."

<div align="center">--- Round 4 ---

Chiefs 37. Minnesota Chiefs - PASS

Rage 38. Manhattan Rage - PASS

Jets 39. Winnipeg Jets – PASS

Platoon 41. West Kendall Platoon - Seth Ryder

[Image: av-1302.jpg]
</div>

- Seth Ryder, right winger out of St. Louis is an inactive depth pick here to start the 4th round of the S22 SHL Entry Draft. He will more than likely have a hard time ever being rostered with the Platoon, but is readily available to be used in case of injury or fill-in duties.

"Seth is an inactive guy, but we feel like he would be a solid bottom 6 guy if we need him to fill in a role."

<div align="center"><b>Stars 42. Toronto North Stars - PASS

Panthers 43. Los Angeles Panthers - PASS

Rage 44. Manhattan Rage (via Edmonton Blizzard) - PASS

Wolfpack 45. New England Wolfpack - Armands Jaks</div>

- Jaks is a defensive defenseman out of Latvia and is an inactive pick for the Wolfpack. Obviously used just to provide a level of depth or to hold onto in case he returns to the league.

<div align="center">Riot 46. Seattle Riot - Danny Phantom</div>

- The Riot took Phantom here and have some personal ties to the player. He will remain reasonably active and could eventually help fill a hole in the bottom or 2nd defensive pairing one day.</b>

"Our final pick is the real dark horse of the draft, in my opinion, and that was Danny Phantom. Much like his name, this guy basically disappeared, and fell way down to the end of the 4th round, but we already got this guy to check in with us and do some physical testing. I'm not saying that he's going to be a superstar, but he certainly could be if he wanted to be. A real boom or bust pick for us, which is what you want in the 4th round."

<div align="center"><b>Steelhawks 47. Hamilton Steelhawks - Siegfried Slayer</div>

- Not much to say here, guy showed up for a practice and never came back.

<div align="center">Renegades 48. Texas Renegades – PASS</div></b>

As I suspected, you were consistent to the very end!
Amazing, mate, hope you do it again each season. Don't think there's someone else better for the job.
