Go ahead and ask me anything and I'll answer it. IRL or SHL related, it doesn't matter. Please don't grade until at least 5/22

SHL Aspirations?

Not sure if IRL for the first two but here goes:

I am Nick Leier and I currently play for the St. Louis Scarecrows. I've been around the site for a while and have heard nothing but good things about you Jesster and have been hoping to get to talk to you eventually.

My SHL aspirations include, but are not limited to, winning multiple Challenge Cups (something that neither of my former players could do) and scoring 200 career goals.

My favorite player in the NHL is a pretty close race actually. I'm a huge fan of Duncan Keith and Drew Doughty because they are just so good at the defense position. I say it like that because they can do it all, from goal line to goal line. The player I play most like in real life though is Braydon Coburn. Tall, rangy defenseman who moves well and can shoot but isn't offensive by any stretch though.

Great answers. Few more:

Which SHL team would you prefer to play for if you had to choose only 1?

Where in the draft do you expect to be drafted?

Oh, this question is a tough one. I definitely have my teams that I absolutely would not want to play for. Guys on those teams and I have either crossed paths and stepped on each others toes before or I just straight don't like the GM's and/or some of the players from seeing their actions on the site. To pick one that I would play for right now though is a challenge. I'd have to say that it is Manhattan. I love Nike and everyone seems to get along fine in the LR and it is very active. Plus, I have some personal history with the organization, with my previous guys getting drafted there twice.

I don't expect to go high at all. I don't see myself as anything more than a late second or early third round prospect. To be perfectly honest, I think a lot of semi-active guys will be taken before me because I've gone inactive twice and that may scare some teams away. That's not me saying I'd be a first rounder otherwise because that wouldn't be true. I'm a late signee with a sketchy past though so that's what I have to deal with.

Honest answers, I can see you going higher than you expect though. Good luck Jmo if I may call you that.

Well, that would be a nice surprise!

And yes, you can call me that Cheers

What teams do you not want to play for?
Do you want to play a second season in the SMJHL ?
Do you think St.Louis can go all the way in this seasons playoffs?

I might as well be candid with my answer here as my future in the SHL could be at stake. I don't want to play for Winnipeg. I've heard nothing but good things about their GM but I don't think that I could deal with some of the people in that locker room on a consistent basis. Texas as well falls into this category. They just seem kind of arrogant to me. It could be earned but it could also not be. I'm not sure and I really don't want to take the chance of finding out. That one is tough because I have some very good friends there. The third team that I really wouldn't want to play for is Hamilton. That's just more of a personal choice due to my prior time in Manhattan and I've heard some pretty interesting things being said about and from that team recently.

I do want to play another year in the SMJHL. I want to see how I can do in a full season with a solid TPE bump from this shortened year. I did pretty well at the start but seem to have had trouble adjusting to the game down the stretch here. I haven't put up a point in about 7 games and have placed myself solidly in the minus column and I don't think that many SHL teams are looking for that kind of production, or lack thereof. I think I'd be playing another year here regardless of if I wanted to or not.

I do think that we have a chance to win this year. I'm not just saying that to sound good for my teammates either. We have a great group of guys in the room and a lot of talent up and down our roster. We have some pretty solid lines and a good mix of talents. Dambach and Buckley provide the muscle while guys like Jagr and Wert can focus on putting the puck in the net. Regular season standings be damned. I just hope that I can find my groove and start contributing again.

Hi

This isn't really a question but hi, how are you? Why are you making me ask questions in my own press conference? Who do you think you are? Do you know that your assists are off in your career stats and should be 514 as opposed to 464? You better watch your back because the Scarecrows are coming for you!

How do you rate your play in the regular season?

What about in the playoffs, thus far?

I did really well at the start. I had three points in the first three games and was a +1. Then I didn't perform at all for the rest of the year and finished in the minuses. Overall, that's not a terrible stat line for a new player getting third line time with power play but I'd like to do better.

Through the first five games, I haven't contributed much at all. My only points coming in a game three blowout loss. I'm disappointed in myself so far this preseason and I'm hoping that it doesn't affect my draft stock too much.
