Top 100 SHL Players of Today! S24
#1

Welcome back everyone, to the seasonal top 100 players of today. So for those who do not know, this is the 5th edition of this article, awarding the top 100 players heading into the S24 season.

I'd like to give a big thanks to the following users that helped me make this article possible.

Experts: Abdeezy, Lunaro, Nike, Mac
Experts and Writer: ArGarBarGar, Mac, Abdeezy

Together we made a panel of 4 experts who graded over 130 players, narrowing the list down to 100 and ranking those elite 100 players of the SHL.

I'd like to ask the media grader to wait for my PM before grading this article.

So here is your top 100! Starting with Number 101!

101. (S22) G (Toronto North Stars) - Mark Harter || New Entry
Grade: 10/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 101 on this list is season 22 goaltender Mark Harter. This goaltender had quite a season, being thrown in as the starting goaltender for the Toronto North Stars, a team that had some high points, but ultimately failed to make the playoffs. Harter was up against the wall early, facing the 3rd most shots in the league in his 46 games played., and finishing with a 20-21-5 record. His stats were unspectacular, but he was able to prove to the SHL that he has a lot of potential, and should only be rising on this list from here on out if he keeps up his play.

100. (S20) C (Edmonton blizzard) - Aviad Ratzon || New Entry
Grade: 10/20
Past Seasons: None

First in the top 100 on this list is Aviad Ratzon, a center who for the last three years was unable to crack the list despite some decent seasons. However, finally in season 23 he was able to make the cut, if only by the skin of his teeth. The center scored 17 goals and 27 points on the season, and had a 49.78% faceoff percentage. He has still yet to crack the depth chart and log a great deal of minutes, which hurts his numbers, but that also has to do with his talent as well. Hopefully for him this means the start of good things to come, as he could very well start becoming a star for Edmonton very soon.

99. (S17) RW (Winnipeg Jets) Jamers Both || +2
Grade: 10/20
Past Seasons: S23-101

Rising two spots on this list to make the top 100 is Jamers Both, an older player and a late bloomer. This past season saw him score 18 goals and 32 points on the non-playoff jets. Defensively he was a question mark, with a -3 on the season and very few penalty killing minutes. At this point in his development he is unlikely to become a well-rounded defensive player, but he still can be a better offensive threat and one that the Jets can rely on consistently.

98. (S22) C (Hamilton Steelhawks) Bubba Nuck || New Entry
Grade: 11/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 98 is Bubba Nuck, a rookie entry who had a very so-so season, despite what his entry on this list may tell you. With only 3 goals and 14 points, it is a surprise to see him this high on the list according to the experts, but the rationale is likely that he is a big up and comer from his draft class, likely to take a big jump very soon. There may be some who argue his spot on this list, but perhaps this next season will see him prove his mettle.

97. (S19) C (Seattle Riot) Nicholas Flamel || New Entry
Grade: 11/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 97 is Nicholas Flamel, another new entry from a previous season. Flamel came into this season with a much better mindset and playing like it. The center scored 13 goals and 28 points, despite not taking many faceoffs during the season. He has been given slightly more responsibility each season, and with that he has begun to show his colors as an impact player in the SHL. Perhaps next season he will be dedicated as a centerman, despite the great center depth the Riot have.

96. (S17) C (Manhattan Rage) - Thor Ludvigsen || Returning Entry
Grade: 11/20
Past Seasons: S20-84, S21-92, S22-93, S23-N/A

At number 96, we see a player who we have seen on this list before, but saw himself pushed out of the top 100 last season. He has made a resurgence this season, after a 12 goal, 27 point pace on the defending Challenge Cup Champion Manhattan Rage. Ludvigsen's production saw him 8th on the team in scoring, and saw him 9th in ice time, os he produced about as well as expected. Unfortunately, just like previous seasons, he has not been able to elevate his game to the next level to keep him from the edge of this list. Can that change? Possibly. But he is going to have to do better than 12 goals and 27 points if he wants to do that.

95. (S11) LW (Hamilton Steelhawks) Brandon Donini || -22
Grade: 11/20
Past Seasons: S20-22 , S21-32, S22-34, S23-73

At 95 on this list is Brandon Donini, an older player who has started to feel the effects of his age. Since his season 22 campaign, he has started to fall from his old spot as an elite player. This season saw him score 15 goals and 29 points, a far cry from seasons past, and with his continued regression, we may no longer see Donini on this list. This could be a big problem for Hamilton going forward, as they have now lost their leading scorer and may be losing Donini as a regular offensive producer.

94. (S22) D (Winnipeg Jets) Rembrandt Q. Einstein || New Entry
Grade: 11/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 94 on this list is young buck Rembrandt Q. Einstein. The defenseman has proven to be quite a big producer already, finishing season 22 with 9 goals and 32 points as a defenseman. Not a bad sophomore season for the defenseman, especially when playing for a Jets team that had a lot of struggles. Not only did Einstein play well offensively, he was a very important player for the Jets, leading the team in icetime and playing during all situations. Expect to see this continue from year to year. With guys like Einstein and Myers leading the way, the team has a bright future.

93. (S18) D (Winnipeg Jets) - Zanis Zarins || +2
Grade: 11/20
Past Seasons: S21-79, S22-67, S23-95

At number 93 is another Jets defenseman Zanis Zarins. While not as much of a goalscorer as defensive teammate Einstein, he was a big assist guy, getting 21 assists. Zarins has had a couple of down seasons, going from the top 70 in season 22 to only the top 100, and could see that continue as even his younger teammates are starting to steal the spotlight from him.

92. (S22) RW (Toronto North Stars) - Pierre-Luc Laflamme || New Entry
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: None

Another season 22 draftee making the list is winger Pierre-Luc Laflamme, our 92nd best player of the year. Laflamme, like Bubba Nuck, had an underwhelming season scoring 13 goals and 20 points on a struggling North Stars team. He was also very low on the depth chart this season, which didn't help him in his production. However that is expected to change this season, as Laflamme has gotten even better and the North Stars have lost a couple of their top players.

91. (S20) RW (New England Wolfpack) - Nathan Russell || New Entry
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 91 is a season 20 draftee, Nathan Russell. Russell had a pretty good season as a playmaker with only 5 goals but 31 points for the Challenge Cup Champion Wolfpack. He was also one of the teams best defensive players, leading the way in plus minus with a +10, despite a lot of his teammates being negative players. One problem with his performance was his lack of big minutes compared to his teammates, which begs the question as to why a player who produced so well with such limited minutes was limited in his minutes at all.

90. (S21) C (Winnipeg Jets) Patrik Satan || -1
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S23-89

Patrik Satan drops only a tad on our list, but remains part of the top 90 players in the SHL. Satan saw himself with a very good campaign, cracking the top 60 in scoring among active players with 13 goals and 34 points, though it did not match his previous year's totals. One thing that hurt his case on this list, however, was his lackluster defensive play for the Jets. Despite being on a team with a number of positive players, he had the worst +/- on the team with a -8. Faceoffs appear to be improving as he was able to hit almost a 51% clip in 1500+ draws. He has the potential to be better, it is just a matter of when that will happen.

89. (S20)C (New England Wolfpack) - Niklas Wikstrom || Returning Entry
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S22-91

Coming back after missing the rankings last year, Wikstrom has cracked the top 90 once again. He appeared to be more of an afterthought during the regular season, scoring 29 points and finishing 8th on the Wolfpack. However he came through during the playoffs and was able to score 5 goals and 11 points in their Challenge Cup Finals campaign. Wikstrom cannot rest on that playoff run forever, and if he doesn't improve his play he will be back off this list once again.

88. (S17) D (Minnesota Chiefs) - Walter “Heisenberg” White || +9
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S20- 47, S21- 53, S22- 65, S23- 97

Walter White has started to come back up the list, finishing at 88 after a weak ranking last season. White was third among Minnesota Chiefs defensemen in scoring, but was a vital piece of the team during their post-deadline breakout, helping solidify the top pairing while Garbanzo was having difficulty scoring. Heisenberg was another player to have a solid playoff campaign, scoring 7 points in 6 playoff games and playing as the best Chiefs defenseman in their first round exit.

87. (S21) D (Seattle Riot) - Vsevolod Nikitin || +11
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S23- 98

Nikitin is starting to rise to fame on this list, moving up 11 spots to 87. Nikitin was part of a very solid Seattle Riot roster, scoring 28 points on the season. His defensive play has still been iffy, as he was a -9 on the season. His playoff run left a little to be desired with him scoring only 5 points in their deep run, but as a young player getting used to the playoffs, he should be fine.

86. (S19) D (New England Wolfpack) - Kaspars Tzisling || -8
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S21- 86, S22- 54, S23- 78

At number 86 is Kaspars Tzisling, who appears to be on this list currently based on name alone. He has continued to fall after his S21 season which brought him to numb 54 on the S22 list, but last season was just abysmal for him. 2 goals and 13 points, which is awful even for a defensive defenseman. Tsizkling didn't even play 20 minutes a night, and in general he had one of the most disappointing seasons of his career.

85. (S20) LW (New England Wolfpack) - Blake Sherrill || -2
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S23-83

At number 85 is another New England Wolfpack player, Blake Sherrill. Sherrill had a respectable season last year, scoring 33 points in 52 games, but turned it up a complete other level during the playoffs. In their championship run he scored 8 goals and 16 points, tying veteran superstar Chris McZehrl in points for the team. Sherrill now has to continue on without players like McZehrl and others to lead the way, as the team is currently in full firesale mode.

84. (S17) C (Minnesota Chiefs) - Mr. Feeny || -5
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S21-73, S22-80, S23-79

Mr. Feeny is out of the top 80 for the first time since being put on this list, a disappointing event for the young forward/defenseman. Due to Minnesota's lack of defensive depth, Feeny has played at both forward and defense to help with their struggles in that regard, and has filled in quite well. Despite the time on defense, Feeny scored 34 points and is a stable presence for young players like Garbanzo, Banananov, and others.

83. (S20) D (Edmonton Blizzard) Jackson Rogers-Tanaka || -2
Grade: 12/20
Past Seasons: S23-81

Dropping a couple spots to 83 is Jackson Rogers-Tanaka, an Edmonton Blizzard youngster. While one would say his 34 point campaign is very good, it appears to not have swayed the voters, who look at some of the talent he had to work with up front. They are currently skeptical he will be able to pull off those kinds of numbers two years in a row, so it is up to Rogers-Tanaka to show them it was no fluke. Make no mistake, however. The voters are definitely at attention for this young potential stud on defense.

82. (S19) D (Calgary Dragons) - Martins Daugavins || -12
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: S21-101, S22-71, S23-70

Dropping to 82 on this list is defenseman Martins Daugavins, a players who was part of the West Kendall Platoon dumpster fire last season. Scoring 25 points and a -5, he was unable to slow the onslaught of the opposition scoring goals against him, and was part of an offensively inept squad that missed the playoffs. Daugavins has jumped to Calgary in the hopes that his game will translate better in the West, and Calgary is looking for his potential to light a fire under a perennial underachieving team.

81. (S22) D (Winnipeg Jets) Drew Myers || New Entry
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: None

Coming in at number 81 is newcomer Drew Myers, a rare S22 prospect. Myers dropped jaws last season when he scored 5 goals and 31 assists for the lead in rookie scoring and the award for best rookie in the regular season. This allowed him to quickly jump up to 81 past many established players. The question is, will he be able to do it again? Will his scoring touch continue and help Winnipeg fly back into the playoffs after an off year? He looks like the player with the work ethic to do it.

80. (S20) G (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Jakob Tanner || -19
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: S22-94, S23-61

Jakob Tanner has fallen quite a bit since last rankings, despite a good season with 27 wins, a .905 save percentage, and a very good playoff run where he posted a .914 save percentage and 2.14 GAA. So what happened? Some voters may have been confused as Jakobsen was on fire for the Steelhawks that year, but that does not excuse his ranking to be this low. Tanner clearly will have an axe to grind with this list in season 24, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had a great season to follow.

79. (S20) RW (Edmonton Blizard)- Mark Longford || New Entry
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 79 is newcomer Mark Longford, a member of the S20 superdraft. Longford took a couple years to get on this list, but finally, he was able to do it with a breakout 35 point campaign which saw him score 17 goals for the Blizzard. He was a great depth player for a stacked Edmonton team which finally caused the voters to take notice. This guy has a lot of potential and while he may be considered a late bloomer by some voters, it is unlikely he will be knocked off this list any time soon.

78. (S15) LW (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Arthur Grosberg || +18
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: S20 - 90, S21 - 59, S22 - 69, S23-96

At numb 78 is Arthur Grosberg, a winger who has started to come back a little after a disappointing S22 season where he only scored 27 points, a low for him. He immediately went back to scoring in S23, potting 17 goals and 35 points on the season for the Steelhawks, which was a big factor in them becoming a contender again. He may be a little lower on the depth chart than some players (only played 18 minutes a night last year), but he still has a lot of talent to show off.

77. (S21) RW (Edmonton Blizzard) - Theo Kane || -2
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: S23-75

At number 77 is S21 draftee Theo Kane, who took a slight step back from last year, despite scoring 19 goals and 16 more points than the season prior. Why? I spoke with some voters who talked about an attitude problem, but this seems like justification for not wanting to give some of the young guns credit. Some talked about his playoff numbers, but in a deep run the younger players are unlikely to play as well as the veterans. Who knows the reason behind him not improving despite last season, but I will be surprised if he is lower than top 40 next year.

76. (S21) D (Minnesota Chiefs) - Alonzo Garbanzo || -17
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: S23-59

At 76 is another S21 draftee, who unlike Theo Kane, deserves his place after a lackluster season which saw him once again finish under 30 points and 4th on the depth chart in Minnesota. Despite being named captain, the young defenseman has been unable to lead by example and has failed to improve enough to earn a higher spot on the list, and for good reason. Garbanzo appears to be a resilient player, so he will be working even harder, but his talent may not be enough to become an offensive threat.

75. (S19) C (Texas Renegades) - Liam Kinsler || New Entry
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: None

At number 75 is Liam Kinsler, a newcomer from the Texas Renegades. The center spent a few of his earlier years as a depth player with little offensive support, but was able to break through in S23 with 11 goals and 32 points on the season, a critical part of a Texas team that has been unable to get back to their championship ways. He was also incredible on the draw, winning 53% of the facoffs he took. A slow starter, for sure, but Kinsler is starting to creep up in this list and there is no way to know how far he can climb.

74. (S18) C (Edmonton Blizzard) - Miles Berger || +25
Grade: 13/20
Past Seasons: S21-85, S23-99

At number 74 is another center, the Blizzard's own Miles Berger. After getting back on the list last season, Berger continues to impress as he had a great 36 point regular season followed by a 16 point playoff run all the way to the finals. Berger spent a little time off the radar and some thought he might be a bust, but he has come back stronger than ever and could turn into the star the Blizzard expect out of him. That's as long as he keeps training, of course.

73. (S20) D (New England Wolfpack) - Benjamin Reid || -7
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S22-90, S23-66

Benjamin Reid comes it at number 73, and this is a season where Reid will probably go back and tell you that he could have been better. He did not reach his previous season's point total, finishing at 31 points (respectable, but not based on his standards), and only 7 points in 19 playoff games. Reid still continues to train and is an important piece of the Wolfpack despite their current rebuilding period, and should hopefully be a centerpiece of a new Wolfpack future once the rebuild is complete. They will be relying on him more than ever now.

72. (S18) C (Seattle Riot) Thomas King || -22
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20-65, S21-44, S22-38, S23-50

At 72 is Thomas King, a Riot center who followed up an impressive 45 point season with a disappointing 34 point season. Not bad for a lot of players, but Thomas King isn't a lot of players. This is a former top-40 player and top-20 center we are talking about. Despite the offensive woes he remained solid on the dot, winning 56% of the 800 faceoffs he took, and was a stable defensive presence with a +3 on the saeson while teammates were in the double digits in the minus column.

71. (S17) C (Minnesota Chiefs) Chico Salmon || -34
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20- 43, S21-20, S22-24, S23-37

Dropping back a great deal on the list to 71 is Chico Salmon, a former Texas Renegade who saw his point totals drop from the 40s to 30 on the nose. This dip in production was a factor in the Renegades not competing for the Western Conference title, and subsequently caused him to look for a different environment to reinvigorate his game. He was very good in the playoffs scoring 8 points in 7 games, so we don't expect he will repeat his 30 point performance with Minnesota, a team that has added multiple free agents over the offseason. If he has another 40+ point season next year, he could go right back into the top-40, even the top-30 depending on how well he does.

70. (S19) G (Minnesota Chiefs) - Dymo Ranjan || +20
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S21-57, S22-89, S23-90

Starting out the top 70 is Dymo Ranjan, the starting goaltender for the Minnesota Chiefs, and a player who may be coming back into his own pretty soon. He finished the S23 campaign with 25 wins, a .902 save percentage, and a 2.51 goals against average. Not a bad stat line for a goaltender who people are unsure of his potential. When it comes to comparing him with goaltenders, however, he is considered a bottom-half talent still. Thankfully the Chiefs look like they could be stacked during the S24 season, which means he may be able to win the Challenge Cup without becoming Elite just yet.

69. (S20) D (Calgary Dragons) - Sachimo Zoidberg || +7
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S22-86, S23-76

At number 69 is Sachimo Zoidberg, the first of Calgary's one-two punch in the Zoidberg Jalopski defensive duo. Zoidberg continues to rise on these lists despite being on the non-playoff team Dragons. Thankfully, the team is starting to turn a corner thanks to guys like Zoidberg coming into their own. The young defenseman finished with 27 points, which isn't a great offensive contribution from a top-pairing guy, but it is absolutely not his ceiling. When the Dragons turn to contender status, expect Zoidberg as the primary reason why.

68. (S19) C (West Kendall Platoon) Zallerras Szlerchek || +3
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20-86, S21-58, S22-40, S23-71

At 68 is center for the Platoon Zallerras Szlerchek. Despite falling to the 70s last year, Szlerchek is looking to get back to his top-60 days as he slowly creeps back up the ladder. The prolific center finished last season with 15 goals and 35 points, and despite some so-so defensive miscues, was one of the better defensive players on the team, which had a very poor defensive season. Faceoffs were also a big positive for the center as he won 54% of the 1800 draws he took. He could still become a 55% faceoff guy, which is a pretty amazing percentage and will help the Platoon get back into the playoffs next season.

67. (S15) D (Calgary Dragons) - Krišs Labsvārds || +5
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20-46, S21-51, S22-48, S23-72

At 67 is Calgary Dragons defenseman Kriss Labsvards. The veteran just edged out defensive teammate Zoidberg despite worse numbers. Voters went with veteran presence and defensive play, as Labsvards blocked 89 shots to Zoidberg's 54, and just edged out the younger defensemen in playing time. Regression is going to start hitting the veteran defenseman, which means his days of effectiveness may start to dwindle as Zoidberg gets more playing time. Of course if Zoidberg does pass Labsvards next year, that won't be a knock on him so much as it will be a testament to how much Zoidberg has improved.

66. (S20) D (Hamilton Steelhawks) Fredrich Müller || -28
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S21-102, S22-47, S23-38

At number 66 is a player who took quite a sizable drop, Hamilton Steelhawks defenseman Fredrich Müller. Müller scored 9 goals and 27 points on the season, not what we expected to see from the talented young defenseman. However the 9 goals were a positive thing to see from Hamilton in particular. One would expect this to be a down year in his ranking, as his play has been much better than it was last season. If he doesn't get back into the top-50 next season it should be surprising to just about everyone.

65. (S8) C (Winnipeg Jets) - Jordan Hall/Taylor McDavid || -50
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20-13, S21-10, S22-2, S23-15

At number 65 is a previously considered elite center, formerly known as Jordan Hall of the Texas Renegades, but now known as Taylor McDavid of the Winnipeg Jets. We are unsure of his obsession with certain Canadian's names to the point where he continues to change his name based on them, but it appears the name change is him trying to get back to his prime years of hockey. Falling 50 points is one of the largest drops we have seen in the history of this segment, especially coming from a player who was top 5 two years ago, and top-15 ever since this was created. Has the veteran lost his touch with "only" a 33 point season last year?

64. (S20) C (Toronto Noth Stars) Alexander Kjaerberg || -2
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S23-62

At number 64 is center Alexander Kjaerberg of Toronto, falling only a couple points since his first appearance in the top-100. Kjaerberg had a very good run with the North Stars, scoring 13 goals and 38 points, racking up the assists and finishing 5th on the team in scoring. Unfortunately for him and his teammates, they were unable to hold on to a playoff spot and his lack of training of late is considered one of the reasons why. Kjaerberg has been slacking a bit, which is something we can only hope is temporary as the player has a lot of talent and the ability to easily slot in as a top-50 player in the league. With the recent exodus of some of their players, Toronto is going to need him more than ever.

63. (S18) G (West Kendall Platoon) - Colin Schmidt || -3
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20-92, S21-64, S22-55, S23-60

At number 64 and failing to climb back up in the rankings is Colin Schmidt. The goaltender was a bright spot in an otherwise terrible West Kendall Platoon season, finishing with a .907 save percentage, 20 wins, and 2.38 goals against average. If people are going to blame someone for the Platoon's struggles, they will have to look elsewhere, because Schmidt has been about as consistent as you would expect the last couple years. Schmidt is one of the better goaltenders in the league and should be one of the more valuable ones in the near future. West Kendall just needs to keep building around him and Bojo Biscuit needs to stop screening him.

62. (S20) RW (West Kendall Platoon) - Jed Lloren || +6
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S22-83, S23-68

At 62 is another Platoon player, Jed Lloren. Lloren has slightly climbed the rankings but remains a top-70 player. He had a very positive season in S23, with 14 goals and 41 points, good for second on the team, and only one point behind Ivo Willems. Lloren's youth means that he will only get better in the coming years, and could easily become the team's leading scorer as soon as next year. Shooting percentage could improve, as his 8.28% was respectable but not quite good enough to get him in the mid 40s in points.

61. (S19) LW (Edmonton Blizzard) Jonathan Kane || -12
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S23-49

Jonathan Kane comes in at 61 at this list, and despite all the expectations he would be able to match his previous point totals or come close, he was unable to even hit the 40 point mark this season, finishing at 14 goals and 39 points for the Jets. Kane is experiencing a bit of a slump, and his defensive numbers are indicative of such with a -7 on the season. He has since moved on to the Edmonton Blizzard in the hopes he can get his scoring touch back that we saw in S22. Time will tell if that season was only a taste of what is to come, or it was the best he has to show for the SHL.

60. (S16) D (Texas Renegades) - Maxim Horvat || -19
Grade: 14/20
Past Seasons: S20-94, S21-77, S22-51, S23-41

Starting the top-60 is Texas Renegade Maxim Horvat, who has dropped a considerable amount. This is despite improving his point total from last year and finishing with 37 points as a defenseman, +19 on the year, increased minutes, and increased ability. Did he say something to the voters to make them despise him? Is his ability just underrated? Maybe there is something under the surface which demonstrates Horvat as a horrible player. Whatever it is, we can't see it, and this guy is out of the top 50.

59. (S20) C (Los Angeles Panthers) Nicholas Pedersen || -13
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-46

At 59 is Panther Nicholas Pedersen, another player who improved on his point totals but fell down in the rankings. It appears that the competition for the top spots has begun to get fierce, and even players who have improved seasons are not safe from getting bumped back in the rankings. Particularly with forwards. Pedersen is a young player with a lot of promise, however, and it is expected that he will bounce back despite falling off a little in the rankings.

58. (S17) D (Seattle Riot) - Vladimir Bodnar || +22
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-78, S21-56, S22-41, S23-80

At number 58 is defenseman Vladimir Bodnar, a player who had a bit of a struggle defensively but was still able to put up a decent amount of points. Was just shy of hitting the 30 point mark once again, and only blocked 46 shots. Bodnar has been wavering a bit since being placed in the top-50 two years ago, but he still has the opportunity to climb back in the rankings as evidenced by his improvement this year.

57. (S20) RW (Toronto North Stars) - Kristian Eriksson || +20
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S22-96, S23-77

At number 57 is winger Kristian Eriksson, a player who has had made great strides to improve on the list of the top-100 players. He beat his previous season's point totals by 12 points, improved his plus minus, blocked more shots, and remained a physical presence with the North Stars. While he was unable to hold off the mid-season collapse of his team, he is going to be looking to keep the North Stars in the playoffs for good this season with even more improved point totals.

56. (S13) C (Minnesota Chiefs)- Rufus Reinhart || +18
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20- 55, S21-42, S22-44, S23-74

At number 56 is Chiefs Center Rufus Reinhart. An older player, Reinhart has remained a relevant player since being acquired from the Chiefs, keeping his offensive numbers consistent (38 points in S22 and 40 points in S23) and improving an offense that simply was non-existent before he joined the team. While he fell off last year in the list, he is coming back, and could still have a couple more years of relevance before regression hits him.

55. (S20) LW (Los Angeles Panthers) - Yuri Boyka || +9
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S22-97, S23-64

At number 55 is winger Yuri Boyka, a player with a lot of promise who continues to rise up on this list. His decreased point totals hurt him this year as he only jumped up 9 points, but it is clear his work ethic and talent shown in the league has impressed the voters, who continue to rank him higher and higher each season. If Boyka can bounce back from last season and bring his point totals back up to the level they were in S22, he will be a top-50 player next year.

54. (S17) LW (Seattle Riot) - Chara Brojled || +34
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20- 85, S21- 83, S22-72, S23-88

At 54 is a player who had a huge jump this year, Chara Brojled. With his 37 point campaign, Brojled finally showed the league what he was made of and catapulted himself into the higher ranks of this list, but he still has a long way to go if he wants to call himself elite. Defensive play is still a bit of an issue, as he remains a minus player, and goal scoring could definitely improve for the winger, but he has the playmaking tools and hockey sense to keep getting better.

53. (S19) D (Minnesota Chiefs) - Ryan Sullivan || +31
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-89, S21-60, S22-50, S23-84

At 53 is Ryan Sullivan, another player who took a big jump. We thought Sullivan was going to fade into obscurity after handing over the captain C to teammate Alonzo Garbanzo, but Sullivan is back at it as he is one of the top defensive producers on the Chiefs and remains a stable leader. He finished the season with 32 points, and despite his physical tools appearing to have hit their peak, he proves why he was a high draft pick in some of the plays he has made.

52. (S10) D (Texas Renegades) Logan Valentine || -1
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-20, S21-26, S22-31, S23-51

At number 52 is veteran "village bicycle" Logan Valentine. After winning the Challenge Cup with the Rage, Valentine continued his journey to every team by joining with the Chiefs and having another solid year with the team. He led the Chiefs with 35 points, but has shown signs of decay with his advanced age. While he may be able to keep the offense going back in Texas, we don't expect his time on this list to last much longer.

51. (S18) RW (Texas Renegades) - Oliver Pettyfer || +14
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-87, S21-41, S22-60, S23-65

At number 51 on the list is winger Oliver Pettyfer, another Texas Renegade who looked to be falling out of the voters' graces until he proved to them once again he was a top-60 player. The winger finished with 19 goals and 36 points on the season, helping the Renegades make the playoffs and acting like a solid top-6 forward alongside Hall and Velevra. He has just started to hit his prime, and he could get right back into the top-50 next year with his skills.

50. (S20) LW (Toronto North Stars) Chester Cunningham || +19
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-69

We kick off the top 50 with a 2nd time candidate on the top 100 players of today. Chester Cunningham has jumped up 19 spots to be able to carry the title of a top 50 player in the SHL. 14 goals and 39 points for Toronto was good enough for 3rd in scoring, tied with Kristan Eriksson. He also managed to put up 153 hits and 18 shot blocks.

49. (S20) C (Los Angeles Panthers) - Adrian Thomaz || +8
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S22-77, S23-57

Adrian Thomaz has done the same thing since he made the list back in S22, and that is move higher and higher. He moved up 20 spots last season, and this year he has jumped another 8 spots to crack the top 50, thanks to his 38 points performance. Thomaz is part of a young but very talented Los Angeles Panthers squad that will be looking to make an impact in S24, and find a way back to the finals.

48. (S20) D (Los Angeles Panthers) - Valterri Bottas || -4
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S22-76, S23-44

The Los Angeles Panthers couldn’t have made a better pick in S20 when they got their leader, and one of their top defensive players in Valterri Bottas. He may have only had 22 points, but it’s his defensive play that makes him worth the praise he gets, his 80 shot blocks are among the elite in the entire league and he eats up over 26 minutes a game on a very deep Panthers’ squad.

47. (S20) LW (Los Angeles Panthers) - Jhonas Skarsgaard || -15
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-76, S21-84, S22-53, S23-32

Jhonas Skarsgaard had what many would call a career year, finishing in the top 20 in points and goals scored with 42 and 22 respectively. Skarsgaard also had nearly 200 hits and 16 shot blocks, so it is very surprising to see him drop 15 spots from last year’s 32nd place finish. However 47th is definitely not something to be a shamed of, and he and the rest of the Los Angeles Panthers know just how valuable he is, and just how high his potential can be.

46. (S20) D (Seattle Riot) Mikko Koskinen || +40
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-86

Mikko Koskinen made the list for his first time last season at spot number 86. However this young defenseman has evolved greatly since then and has had a great season in S23, finishing with 40 points and 53 shot blocks for the Seattle Riot. That has earned him an incredible 40 spot jump right into the top 50 in the entire league. The future is looking very bright for him.

45. (S21) RW (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Rider Clitsome || +37
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-82

Ride Clitsome is another 2nd timer on the list who has had a very big raise in the list since his rookie season performance in S22. He made the list at the 82nd spot, however his natural goal scoring ability has pushed him up into the top half of the list at 45. Clitsome had a very impressive sophomore season, racking up 20 goals to his name and being one point shy of the 40 point mark.

44. (S16) C (Texas Renegades) - Alexandre Daigle || +23
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-76, S21-81, S22-59, S23-67

Alexander Daigle had a few seasons of mediocricy finishing a career best 59th best in S22, however after a 14 goal 34 point performance in S23, and a great two way game, he has finally cracked the top 50 and has done so with an impressive 23 spot jump. He and the Texas Renegades will look to further improve from last season and he will hope he can get another big jump into next seasons list.

43. (S16) G (Seattle Riot) - Dustin Rose || +2
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-33, S21-24, S22-20, S23-45

Dustin Rose makes the top 50 for the 4th time in a row, all 4 times he was eligible for the this list, however the Seattle Riot would definitely love for him to get back into top 20 material like he was 2 seasons ago. He is a huge part of the very talented Seattle Riot, however it seems he will be taking a step back for some younger blood to help them out in S24. He is a huge part of the very talented Seattle Riot, however it seems he will be taking a step back for some younger blood to help them out in S24.

42. (S14) G (Texas Renegades) - Jordin FourFour || -24
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-16, S21-11, S22-4, S23-18

Jordin Fourfour was once the big dog between the pipes in the SHL. In S22 he finished 4th overall among all players on this list, and was the best ranked goalie. Now he just barely beats out Dustin Rose for 42nd place which is a huge drop off in just 2 seasons. He will be looking to bounce back into form this year, and the Renegades will follow.

41. (S11) D (New England Wolf Pack) - Brandon Cant || -7
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20-25, S21-17, S22-18, S23-34

Dropping again this year is veteran defenseman Brandon Cant. The wolfpack have used Cant as their top 2 defenseman in the past, but in recent time he has dropped down to a more top 4 role now, as he gets older and older and his production starts to get lower and lower. However his 30 points and 60 shot blocks were good enough to help to the Wolfpack into a good playoff position and ultimately he was a big part of them winning their first ever cup as a franchise.

*Note: Since this was written Cant has been traded to the Chiefs*

40. (S18) D (Edmonton Blizzard) - Magnus Vikstrand || +12
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20- 88, S21- 63, S22-63, S23-52

Starting out the top 40 is defenseman Magnus Vikstrand, who was able to climb the rankings despite not being able to repeat his 30+ point performance in S22. Vikstrand was just shy of 30 points with 5 goals to his name, finishing 2nd among defensemen behind Jackson Rogers-Tanaka. He increased his blocks for the season with 75, and was a regular powerplay and penalty kill player. The defenseman appears to be showing the voters his defensive ability despite his offensive game taking a hit.

39. (S13) G (Edmonton Blizzard) - Jakub Aittokallio || -20
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20-7, S21-15, S22-9, S23-19

At 39 is goaltender Jakub Aittokallio, who gets a major drop in the rankings despite improving his save percentage and goals against. He won 26 games compared to 24 last year, but there were times he began to show his age, which may be the reason why voters are not as high on him going forward. Will Aittokallio regress now that he is hitting the bigger regression years? Time will tell.

38. (S21) RW (Manhattan Rage) - Tommy Creller || +2
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S22-99, S23-40

At number 38 is Tommy Creller, the Manhattan Rage forward who remained as consistent as ever, scoring 17 goals and 40 points with another solid year. So far he has proven he is the top season 21 draftee and earned his #1 overall status, as he is starting to creep up on Daniel Merica as the top point producer on the team. Can it be done? Creller will need to just hit that extra stride, but he has already shown so much at such a young age, there is little question that he has the capability to do so.

37. (S20) C (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Griffin Simons || +21
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S22-66, S23-58

With a huge jump is young center Griffin Simons, who despite not being the biggest point-getter on the squad, continued to improve both his offensive game and defensive game. Hamilton has enjoyed this draftee so far, as his 42 point season was tied for 3rd on the team, and his 52% faceoff percentage was 2nd on the team by a hair being Joe McKeil.

36. (S12) LW (Seattle Riot) Adam Kylrad || -19
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20-12, S21-34, S22-21, S23-17

At 36 is winger Adam Kylrad, who surprisingly took a step back in our rankings. From being a top-20 player, Kylrad has to settle for only top-40 despite scoring 20 goals and 41 points. He did have a down year defensively, but was it that bad to warrant this ranking? He appeared to spend more time hitting than playing defense, as his hits went up but his +/- went way way down. If he can balance out his physicality with defensive play, he should get back in the top-20.

35. (S19) G (Los Angeles Panthers) - Jackson Weekes || -4
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20- 91, S21-75, S22-62, S23-31

At number 35 is a familiar face in this spot, goaltender Jackson Weekes. Weekes improved his save percentage from a .905 to a .913 despite not getting as many wins on the season. He was a very important part of the squad in helping with the goals against, improving his goals against average to a 2.46. Unfortunately, with some players getting bumps, Weekes has to settle for staying in the 30s and not moving up on the spot for top goaltender in the league today.

34. (S20) D (Manhattan Rage) - Barney Stinson || +22
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S23-56

At number 34 is defenseman Barney Stinson, who had a big jump after making the list for the first time last season. Stinson went from a 25 point season (and a -21) to a 34 point campain and a -6 with a North Stars team that was rebuilding. This year he gets to play alongside some serious offensive firepower, and it will be a good way to help improve on his defensive play with fewer opportunities against and more offensive opportunities for.

33. (S8) C (Edmonton Blizzard) Yousuf Scherbluk || -8
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20-8, S21-14, S22-23, S23-25

at number 33 is center Yousuf Scherbluk, who had a great bounce-back season despite his advanced age, scoring 19 goals and 53 points, leading the Blizzard in scoring. What do the voters have to say in response? In the words of Ser Meryn Trant: Too Old. It appears that S8 players are no longer welcome in the top-30 of this list, and if I was Scherbluk, I might be a little annoyed at that. What do you think, Yousuf?

32. (S14) D (Winnipeg Jets) - Ondrej Ravchitikov || +11
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-59, S21-52, S22-42, S23-43

At 32 is Jets defenseman Onderj Ravchitikov, who had a monster season for the Texas Renegades, scoring 39 points, blocking 65 shots, and finishing just behind superstar veteran Chris Partlow in scoring. Texas was heavily reliant on these two, and Ravchitikov was up for the task. However, he is now going to be playing for the Winnipeg Jets, who do not have the same firepower on the back-end. What will he be able to do with the much increased workload and responsibility?

31. (S14) D (Calgary Dragons) Steven Jalopski || -1
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-30, S21-22, S22-27, S23-30

At number 31 is Dragons defenseman Steven Jalopski, who was just scooted out of the top-30 with his decreased offensive performance and decreased hit totals. Jalopski has had some struggles with his team as of late, but Jalopski has been a consistent goal-scorer for the Dragons and a major contributor with defensive partner Sachimo Zoidberg. Just gotta get some support for Birkavs and Anrikkanen.

30. (S20) LW (Minnesota Chiefs) - Pedro Sarantez || +24
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S22-75, S23-54

Pedro Sarantez starts up the top-30 by moving up a big 24 spots after his 48 point season with the Minnesota Chiefs. The Winger was instrumental in their late push to 2nd in the conference, and was just short of Niklas Stryker in goals scored with 22. He was 7th in the league in goals scored and 5th among left wingers as well. This is all despite playing on the second line of a very powerful offensive unit in Minnesota. Playoffs were not his strong suit last season, as he only had two points in 6 games during their first round loss to New England. Sarantez is starting to show he is one of the best players in the league, and if he gets his playoff performance in order, he could be a superstar.

29. (S20) D (West Kendall Platoon) - Bojo Biscuit || +7
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S22-64, S23-36

At number 29 is Platoon defenseman Bojo Biscuit. The defenseman continues to rise in the rankings, getting to the top-30 for the first time and increasing his point totals from a year prior, if not that much. He scored 5 goals and 30 points on defense, leading his team among defensive scoring, as well as blocking the most shots on the team with 80. Bojo has continued to show his physical play as well, with 171 PIMs on the year, 45 of them through fights. Is Bojo continues he will be the most feared bruiser defenseman in the SHL.

28. (S10) C (Winnipeg Jets) - Terry Bullis || Even
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S21-61, S22-82, S23-28

At number 28 is Terry Bullis, center for the Winnipeg Jets. Bullis continued to keep his offensive numbers up this season, scoring 20 goals and 50 points, keeping in line with last year's point totals. His shooting percentage increased despite his minutes going down, and was only 3 points shy of teammate Onoprienko in the scoring race. The team was unable to make the playoffs last season, but Bullis has been able to keep his play elite despite his age. Time may start to show next season for the center, but he won't be moving down any time soon until that happens.

27. (S16) RW (Minnesota Chiefs) - Jarkko Kallestrom || Even
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-44, S21-36, S22-45, S23-27

At 27 is Jarkko Kallestrom, who had a huge season to prove why he was 27th on this list last year. He was nearly a point per game on the year, scoring 18 goals and 51 points, as well as winning 51% of the many faceoffs he took. He was a great performer for the Chiefs, finishing second in scoring, and with this performance, it may take a bit for him to fall from this list considering last season. All in all, Kallestrom is playing incredibly well for the Chiefs, and is slated to do so again.

26. (S21) D (Los Angeles Panthers) - Fredrik Wastlund || +27
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S22-88, S23-53

Rising up a ton to number 26 is young defenseman Fredrik Wastlund. Wastlund's point totals dropped a bit this year, but thanks to his strong defensive play for the Panthers, he made it to the top-30 despite that. He was also able to provide for the Panthers while defensive teammate Bottas had a brutal offensive year. With another 30+ point season in the books, he is really proving his worth as a top-tier defenseman in the league. He may have a long way to go before he is considered the ultimate best, but he is on pace to do so once he hits his prime.

25. (S16) RW (Minnesota Chiefs) - Tom Sawyer || +23
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-49, S21-54, S22-52, S23-48

At number 25 is winger Tom Sawyer, who made a big improvement going into Season 23, taking control of the Toronto North Stars and leading the team with 23 goals and 45 points. While this is not a high number when comparing him to the rest of the league, he was performing with a team that did not give him much offensive support for his point totals to really thrive. Tom Sawyer is now playing for the Chiefs this season, and with his abilities and with talent both up front and on defense, he could battle for a point per game season.

24. (S15) LW (Minnesota Chiefs) Lionel Byrde || +11
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-38, S21-30, S22-33, S23-35

Lionel Byrde is number 24 on this list, another Winger looking to see his numbers improve in a new location. The winger was offered a 21 million dollar salary for this season, which means he is going to have a lot of eyes on him to perform, especially after a sub-par 36 point season on the Texas Renegades. This makes his position in this list a little iffy, but he could pull a Kallestrom and prove why he is back in the top-30 with a monster performance for the Chiefs.

23. (S10) LW (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Ivo Willems || +1
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-11, S21-12, S22-12, S23-24

Willems is at number 23 on this list, remaining as consistent as ever with a 21 goal, 42 point season, leading the way for the West Kendall Platoon. The winger is hoping to see that continue with a role on the Hamilton Steelhawks next year, a role that he appears to be ready for in a quest to make the playoffs once again. Willems has only a few years left before he starts to seriously regress, but he has joined a team where that regression could potentially be minimized.

22. (S12) D/LW (Texas Renegades) - Shawn Velevra || +10
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-36, S21-28, S22-19, S23-33

At number 22 is Shawn Velevra, who surprisingly improved on this list despite a way down year offensively. Voters definitely looked at the name instead of the numbers with this guy, because he was way down in production and did not have a good season, particularly by his standards. 28 points is good for a lot of defenseman, but not a guy who has been in the top-20 before, and was only top-40 last year with a 46 point season. Velevra's good graces with the voting committee will not last, however, if he repeats this kind of performance next season. Guaranteed.

21. (S11) LW (Edmonton Blizzard) - Kyle Keenan || +1
Grade: 17/20
Past Seasons: S20-26, S21-31, S22-15, S23-22

At number 21 is Blizzard winger Kyle Keenan, who slightly improved on the list with a slightly downgraded regular season. He went from leading the team in scoring with 45 points to finishing 4th on the team with 40 points, tied with a player way down on this list, Theo Kane. His playoff numbers were also not all that great, with 9 points in 20 games during a deep playoff run, once again tied with teammate Theo Kane. The depth has been beneficial for the Blizzard, but does that mean Keeenan will no longer be able to maintain these point totals?

20. (S13) G (Winnipeg Jets) - Lauris Prikulis || -8
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-3, S21-4, S22-7, S23-12

Starting the top-20 is veteran goaltender Lauris Prikulis. Prikulis was the best goaltender during S22, sporting a .924 save percentage. However S23 saw a chink in the armor when his numbers fell drastically, forcing him to settle for the 6th best save percentage in the league. Due to his lack of performance compared to last season, the Winnipeg Jets had trouble and missed the playoffs by 3 points. If Prikulis had been even a little better, the team may have been able to find a few points and make it instead of the Riot. Just shows how important Prikulis is to the team.

19. (S9) (Edmonton Blizzard) - Armin Brovalchuk || +10
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-23, S21-13, S22-14, S23-29

At number 19 is Armin Brovalchuk of the Edmonton Blizzard. Brovalchuk took a big nosedive during the regular season last year, scoring only 30 points and finishing at a -1 on the season. However by some miracle he managed to sneak into the top-20 due to his past accomplishments, so the veteran is in the top-20 for the third time since this piece has started.

18. (S14) LW (Seattle Riot) - Carter O'Callahan || -15
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-1, S21-3, S22-1, S23-3

Taking a big fall from grace on this list is superstar Carter O'Callahan of the Seattle Riot. The Riot are a new location for the Wolfpack winger, and after winning a cup with the Wolfpack O'Callahan may be trying to do it in a new location. O'Callahan, unlike Brovalchuk, was not able to dodge the voters' wrath with his sub-par season scoring only 38 points, but he may be able to do it in a new environment this year.

17. (S18) D (Manhattan Rage) - Roy Razin || -13
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-82, S21-62, S22-46, S23-4

Another big dropper is former top-5 player Roy Razin, who went from a point per game season with 19 goals to a 34 point season. A big decline for the young superstar, but nothing that he cannot surmount for Season 24. When you get this high on our list, the competition is even more fierce, and any flawed seasons will do a number on your ranking.

16. (S15) G (Manhattan Rage) - C.J. James || Even
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-51, S21-46, S22-49, S23-16

Sticking to his previous season's ranking, James was able to finish this list as the top goaltender among current players. James followed up a Challenge Cup victory with a 7 win playoff run and a .924 save percentage, almost willing the Rage to a second finals berth in a row. James cannot rest on his laurels, though, as many talented goaltenders will be coming back to take the throne.

15. (S15) LW (Hamilton Steelhawks) Riko Muerto || +27
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-41, S21-33, S22-25, S23-42

At number 15 is Riko Muerto, whose two-way play and improved offensive numbers catapulted him into the top-20 for the first time in his career. Muerto started his stint in Hamilton with a 23 goal, 42 point season, as well as a +14, good for second among his teammates.

14. (S8) C (Seattle Riot) - Joe McKeil || -1
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-2, S21-1, S22-8, S23-13

At number 14 is veteran and future Hall of Famer Joe McKeil, who was able to slightly improve his point totals with the Steelhawks but not improve his standing on this list, falling back a spot but remaining in the top-20. McKeil has since been moved to the Seattle Riot, but as he gets older this may not help keep him fresh and in the top-20 next year.

13. (S8) D (Toronto North Stars) - Darian Scherbluk || +7
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-5, S21-8, S22-17, S23-20

At number 13 is Darian Scherbluk, North Stars prodigy. The veteran followed up a 34 point season with a monster 42 point season despite the North Stars having a horrible time as a team in the second half. Scherbluk also blocked 81 shots and remains an important veteran to the squad, helping young players like Laflamme become better players.

12. (S15) C (Calgary Dragons) Roberts Birkavs || +2
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-62, S21-35, S22-30, S23-14

At number 12 is Dragons center and almost unquestionably best player on the roster, Roberts Birkavs, who remained as dominant as ever with a 51 point season on the non-playoff Dragons. He had 10 powerplay points, saw his minutes increase, and keeps making strides to get the Dragons into the playoffs.

11. (S16) RW (Minnesota Chiefs) - Niklas Stryker || -1
Grade: 18/20
Past Seasons: S20-42, S21-38, S22-57, S23-10

At number 11 and dropping right outside the top-10 is Chiefs star Niklas Stryker. Stryker had another great year with the Chiefs, scoring 23 goals and 52 points, a huge reason why the Chiefs were able to make the playoffs two years in a row. Currently he drives the offense in Minnesota, and is helping guide some of the younger players like Sarantez and Banananov. If those players keep improving, Stryker will be back in the top-10 with another dynamite performance.

10. (S14) LW/RW (Winnipeg Jets) - Emīls Vilmenietis || +36
Grade: 19/20
Past Seasons: S20-39, S21-47, S22-58, S23-47

Emils Vilmenietis has been traded from the finalists, Edmonton Blizzard to start a new road with the Winnipeg Jets, and one has to wonder how good he will be when playing with Vrdik Onoprienko. Emil’s 49 points were good enough this year to mark him as the 10th best scorer last season, which is the reason for his huge jump from the 41st position last year, and thus cracking the top 10 this year. Emils also put up 105 hits and 16 shot blocks to help his case, and im sure most people will put their money on his production rising even more with the Jets.

9. (S7) RW (Seattle Riot) - David Winter || +14
Grade: 19/20
Past Seasons: S20-24, S21-6, S22-10, S23-23

Battling back into the top ten, we find old man Winter. David Winter had dropped 13 spots from his 10th place finish in S22, but has rebounded with a 14 spot jump and has finished at the 9th position. When everyone though Winter might be on his way to old age, and an eventual limited role with the Seattle Riot, he surprised everyone yet again with 48 points which puts him tied for the 11th spot in the scoring race. He also cracked 21 goals and 117 hits.

8. (S9) D (Toronto North Stars) - Willie "The Destroyer" Weber || +3
Grade: 19/20
Past Seasons: S20-10, S21-7, S22-11, S23-11

Jumping back up into the top ten this year is hardnosed defenseman Willie Weber. Weber had back to back seasons sitting right outside the top 10, finishing 11th in both seasons, and has finally returned with this 8th place finish which is his 2nd best finish ever. Weber’s 8th place finish wasn’t due to his 34 points, but more due to his bone crushing 210 hits and his 65 shot blocks. He also played nearly 15 minutes a game, and was the ultimate back bone to his New England Wolfpack winning the cup.

7. (S18) LW (Calgary Dragons) Esa Anrikkanen || -1
Grade: 19/20
Past Seasons: S20-45, S21-48, S22-35, S23-6

Esa Anrikkanen has officially taken over as face of the Calgary Dragons. They finished last again, however it was not due to his performance. Esa managed to put up 49 points which was made up of 30 assists despite not having the quality of line-mates of some of the other top 10 finishers. Esa was also a force in the physical department, laying his body on the line 193 times, which made him very hard to play against.

6. (S14) LW (Manhattan Rage) - Daniel Merica || -4
Grade: 20/20
Past Seasons: S20-32, S21-16, S22-13, S23-2

Daniel Merica has fallen outside the top 5, after a 2nd place finish last year, you know he was hoping to snag the top overall heading into the season. However his production, although very impressive, was not as strong as it was 2 seasons ago, he managed 22 goals and 45 points this year, 12 less than the scoring leader. He did also put up 105 hits and 17 shot blocks and lead the league with 235 shots on goal which have earned him a very respectable 6th place finish.

5. (S10) D (Texas Renegades) Chris Partlow || Even
Grade: 20/20
Past Seasons: S20-6, S21-2, S22-3. S23-5

Many have this man in the talks for the best defenseman to ever suit up in the game, and if you check his history on this list, it is tough to argue against him. His worst finish was in S20 when the list was first created, and he was 6th place. Since then, Partlow has been the most consistent player, never failing to be outside the top 5 in the league, and finishing once again this year 5th overall. His best ever finish was in S21 where he finished 2nd. This year he lead all SHL defenseman with 43 points, and he lead all SHL defenseman in assists, although tied, with 37. Partlow also had 109 hits, and 59 shot blocks.

4. (S14) C (Los Angeles Panthers) Brian Morley || -3
Grade: 20/20
Past Seasons: S20-14, S21-19, S22-16, S23-1

The king has been dethroned; Brian Morley the former number one overall finisher from last season has dropped 3 spots to 4th overall. Morley finished 7th in points with a magical 50 points for his L.A. Panthers, and he did so by putting up 21 points and 29 assists. He also put up 144 hits and 184 shots on goal along with 13 shots blocks.

3. (S20) D (Manhattan Rage) Chuck Goody || +5
Grade: 20/20
Past Seasons: S22-56, S23-8

Finishing in 3rd place and officially claiming the title as the league’s best defender heading into S24, is none other than the Manhattan Rage’s Chuck Goody. Goody had an elite 42 points from the blue line and he also managed to share the league lead in assists with Chris Partlow. Goody put up over 180 hits and a fantastic 70 shot blocks.

2. (S17) LW (Minnesota Chiefs) Magnus Jakobsen || +7
Grade: 20/20
Past Seasons: S20-48, S21-50, S22 – 22, S23-9

Finishing in 2nd this year is the leagues top scorer, Magnus Jakobsen. The Hamilton Steelhawks had a rough season when Jakosen was suspended, however they bounced back in great shape last season with his return, and he proved to be irreplaceable with his 57 points and his 24 goals which was good enough to tie for first place. His 87 hits were nothing to be ashamed of as well, and he even managed 12 shot blocks which is also very good for such a dynamic scorer. He finished 2nd in shots on goal to only Daniel Merica, who many are comparing Magnus to, and he’s only averaged about 22 minutes per game.

1. (S18) LW (Winnipeg Jets) Vidrik Onoprienko || +6
Grade: 20/20
Past Seasons: S20-67, S21-49, S22-26, S23-7

The new champion, the new best and elite player in the SHL heading into S24 is no other but the fan favorite, Vidrik Onoprienko. The man they call “Ono” tore up the league last season after finishing 7th last year. He managed an outstanding 24 goals which was good for a tie for the best goal scorer in the SHL with Magnus Jakobsen, and also finished tied with Yousuf Scherbluk for 2nd in overall points, with 53. Ono might not have helped the Jets very far, however his individual play proved to everyone that he really is one of, if not the best player in the league. His two way game is also fantastic, as he finished with 180 bone crushing hits and 18 shot blocks. Congratulations to a fantastic player on and off the ice!

I dunno, if Bana can be top, what? 20? when ranked for a season he didn't play in, I think it'd be hard to argue for anyone dropping ranks.

Rurik Razin (S32 to S44)
