Another season has came and gone for the young Russian winger, and it was one of growing pains. West Kendall Platoon had another down season, and the same could be said about Ales Smirnov. West Kendall finished in 11th again this season, which is the same spot they finished last season. The one bright spot that can been taking out of this failing season, is the teams two first round picks. One if their own pick, and the other one is from the Edmonton Blizzard who also failed to make the playoffs this season. Heading into the draft West Kendall has a best case scenario of drafting 1st and 3rd overall, or a worse case scenario of drafting 3rd and 6th overall. West Kendall is guaranteed to get a couple of good players out of these picks, or will they move them for a more developed player? West Kendalls forward core will start to round out next season, so the position of need is defence. With that being said, only time will to tell, with what West Kendall does with those draft picks.

Onto Ales Smirnov, despite a strong off season of training, it did not convert to much on the ice. In his first season he compiled 22 points, and a minus 16. In his second season he compiled 25 points, and a minus 27. Ales will need to keep his head high, and have another strong off season, or will we see a return to the KHL ..?

I mean, I have threatned to sacrifice Pushkin to the devil several times. How do I fit into a WKP team whose GM wants to keep Pushkin safe?

Surprisingly Pushkin does not make many apparences in the West Kendall Locker room. So I do not think it will be that big of an issue.

Do you believe WKP are heading in the right direction?

I do, I do indeed. Have you seen the changes so far?! Brining in Birks who is a 1st line center! Adding Arrowny to help the defence, and then also adding an aging player in Cuffy.
Cuffy may only be here for one season, but it will help shelter our young D for another season, and let them step into bigger role next season when they are more ready for it.

What will it take to reach the playoffs next season?

I think the moves made already are a huge head start. I think ultimately adding one more player, be it a forward or a D will give us a solid chance at making the playoffs. New england has not done much to improve, and just traded away one of their young prospects for another pick, so it seems like they are rebuilding again. Minny lost a couple of good players to the expansion draft so they have gotten weaker. Toronto is still progressing as a young team, but have not brought in any other either, so I think West kendall is on the right track.

What are you off-season plans this time around?

Ive been working hard on my puck handling to become more of a puck possession player, and then once I feel more comfortable in that area, I will switch my focus to defence. I think I have all the offensive skills, I just need to round out my game more.

Do you think you three can bring Russia a gold medal?

I think Russia is still a year away from the gold, as the D core is still quite young, same with the forwards. But with that being said I think we can push for a top 5 finish this season.

Will you stay in West Kendall once you are an unrestricted free agent or will you test the waters?

As long as the team keeps improving I will stick it out with west kendall. The team has a young core, and will only get better with each season. Its a exciting time to be in west kendall !

Have you been following your old Jr team, the Knights, this season?

I did follow, I follow every season! The knights will always be my team! Its dissapointing they werent able to make it happen this season, they had such a great group of guys in the locker room, I was really pulling for them!

Assuming that you'll be at WKP next season, are there any particular prospects that you would like to see drafted to the team?

Uhm, anyone from the Knights! ahah, with that being said though, we do not have a lot of draft picks this draft. Im assuming we will go for a dman at 3, unless the top 2 picks dont get as expected. Other then that, it will probably be best player available when we get to our third round pick.

What was your biggest disappointment about this season as a player? For your team?

As a player it was my all around game, I was not good enough defensively, and I did not make up for it offensively. The whole season for me was quite rough, and I can't lie it definitely affected my confidence later in the season when I could not improve my game on the ice.



What do you feel you need to improve on personally?

My defensive game, and just getting stronger on the puck. I think I came into camp this season a lot more prepared, and stronger. I think this up coming season will be a big one in terms of my development, hopefully it translates on the ice.

What are you most looking forward to next season?

Just all the new players, from the rookies to the free agents. We've added a lot of new faces to our locker room this season and I am really looking forward to getting to know them better.

Any big Free Agents your hoping to get your hands on?

Well we landed Petty already which was huge. We also added Kozar to our prospect pool. We had no goalie in our system, so adding him will be a nice addition for when ask gets too old to play backup.
There is still currently one free agent that we are targeting and that is Stryker. He would give us a real nice offensive push this season.

Given a more inside look on the team, do you feel like WKP is on the correct path?

Forsure! Have you seen the moves they made this off season, brought in a couple more vets, added some great rookies in the draft! West kendal really just has growing now, the core is build, and the rookies are going to grow around them!

What do you value most in any team?

Its hard to say, I think you have to have a little bit of everything. You need to be able to win games, but you also need the right group of guys there that make it enjoyable, just a little mix of everything.

What's your favorite adult beverage?

I started off drinking alot of rum originally , now im mostly just into beer. If im feeling girly, you can never go wrong with a pornstar.
