56 SHL Moments

Back in the day, I created an article called "100 SHL moments". I ended up not finishing that article and it was never graded. Here I am reviving back the project and cutting it to just 56 moments. Here are 56 SHL moments.

56 - SMJHL expanded to Colorado and Halifax
The SMJHL is finally back to eight total teams. Season 24 marked a big change for the SHL as they expanded both their leagues. Eight teams will prove to be challenging for the SMJHL as they have to fill those spots via recruitment. These teams could end up being defunct just like their old counterparts because there simply wouldn't be any players to fill the spots.

Welcome to the new franchises of the SMJHL the Colorado Mammoths and the Halifax Raiders. Like the SHL new franchises, these franchises faced criticism. Mammoths had a criticism raised to them that there is a lacrosse team of the same name. The Halifax Raiders on the other hand looks like the Texas Renegades farm team.

55 - The Challenge Cup moment for the Toronto North Stars
The biggest moments for any teams in the SHL is winning a Challenge Cup. That is different for the Toronto North Stars who has won zero cups. This team is a mess and a disaster. Even their wikia page has not been updated to show their previous playoff record. Their playoff records are probably boring but I do remember them going in the Challenge Cup finals on season 16 or around there. That was their first Challenge Cup finals. This franchise is known as the cursed franchise of the SHL because of these results.

54 - SHL Expands to Portland and expanded to Buffalo for the second time
SHL expanded to fourteen teams with the inclusion of Portland Admirals and Buffalo Stampede. This marked the league's fourth expansion. This is the first time there ever was a franchise in Portland but this is the second time Buffalo has a franchise. SHL expanded to Buffalo before with the brand of Thunder before being relocated to Hartford, then finally New England. The teams faced criticism because their team branding are too boring.

53 - Member Number
Meanwhile, another fad erupts in the SHL using your member number to call people. I would be member# 29 for example and we would have covert operation not mentioning our actual username.

All hail member #1 though
http://theshl.b1.jcink.com/index.php?showuser=1

Hilariously, the league grew frustrated with it and forced users to stop calling each other by their member number!

52 - SHL Dictionary

http://theshl.b1.jcink.com/index.php?showtopic=14960&st=0
Somehow the SHL dictionary died. This is a list of words, usually seen in the SHL, and would have a special meaning. A short look at the thread and skimmed all the way to the letter S sees:

Spangle [span-guhl]

1. An individual with such tremendous homosexual tendencies, that despite his best efforts to hold them back, is unable to prevent his gayness from slipping out in to conversations.

Now I say that is worth a three season suspension! Not to mention a three months posting ban and as well as 33% of your bank money gone!

#51 - Lobsters and Spider Man
The iconic lobsters of the SHL. Duey started the lobster and spider man meme invasion in the SHL. Threads would get spammed with Spider Man memes and as well as Lobsters. There's a reason why Duey's player name is Peter Parker.

#50 - Jack Crasher learns to light a fire
Jack Crasher became an unrestricted free agent leaving the Vancouver Nightmare (Now the Seattle Riot). He was the biggest UFA name in the market that season. He got into talks with all the general managers in the league and signed a contract with all the teams in private message. Later that day, Jack Crasher never again returned to the league. To the manager's dismay, Jack Crasher was forced to retire and his agent banned from future SHL games. Jack Crasher also predicted the league to "die in the middle of season 7"

#49 - Winnipeg Jets wins first ever Challenge Cup in SHL history
The very first ever Challenge Cup was won by the Winnipeg Jets. The team had 12 players! That is the team with the smallest amount of members to ever win a Challenge Cup. The team had very well known players including Jay McDonald, Ron Mexico, Pavol Skvoznak, Sergei Karpotsov, and Damian Littleton.

#48 - Drayson Williams drafted first overall by the Hamilton Steelhawks in season 2
Drayson Williams turned out to be the biggest bust in the SHL history. He was drafted first overall and his name is only known in the SHL record book as the 1st overall player with the least points, least TPE, least everything. Drayson Williams didn't have a long career in the SHL. The season 2 draft had players like Jamie Campagiorni, Brandon Holmes, Dominic Turcotte, Gabriel Fortescue, and Ron Bolt among others. It certainly is a deep draft at that time so someone has to question why the Hamilton Steelhawks chose Drayson Williams

#47 - First ever junior draft was held
The first NWJHL junior draft was held on season one on June 19 2010. The first overall pick was Lucas Read to the Brandon Blazers. The other players drafted on the first round were Olaf Glockner to the Prince George Firebirds, Tommy Trecker to the Vancouver Whalers and Jamie Campagniori to the Lethbridge Lions.

#46 - Toronto North Stars make their first ever Challenge Cup finals after 16 long seasons.
Season 16 - one of the most successful North Stars season. After treacherous seasons of missing the playoffs or being first round exits, they finally managed to muster up enough strength to go all the way to the Challenge Cup finals. It was unfortunate that their tracks were stopped by the Edmonton Blizzard. They are still searching for their first ever Challenge Cup in franchise history. They are tied with the Seattle Riot organization as the teams with the longest Cup drought of 16 seasons. As of S24, the North Stars has not won a single Challenge Cup.

#45 - Edmonton Rebuild
The Edmonton organization spent many seasons rebuilding. After the a new ownership took over the manager position, it didn't take long for Seth to sell all his assets for draft pick. The acquisition of young players for sure are great but the manager forgot the value of veterans on the team. The organization would rinse and repeat gaining prospect and losing the prospect because he didn't like to be on a losing team for the rest of his career. Over the course of the Edmonton "rebuild", they acquired the following players in the first round:

S6 - Dougie Brind'Amour 7th overall (ditched team and retired for the 20th time)
S7 - Elias Armia 1st overall (ditched team to be GM of his own team)
S8 - Antero Salmelainen 1st overall
S8 - Sam Slade 2nd overall (Good thing he was traded before he ditched team)
S8 - Cole Reinhart 8th overall (ditched team. The Cole Reinhart we know today to manage the Blizzard is a fake)
S9 - Teemu Nurmi 5th overall (ditched team as he was traded for Michael Haan)
S10 - Michael Haan 1st overall (ditched team in S17 off season)
S10 -Alexander Andrezjeck 4th overall (ditched team when he got traded to Panthers)
S10 - John Langabeer 5th overall (ditched team when he got traded to Hawks)

Season 11 was really when they stopped the full rebuild as they traded their second overall pick for Tom Corcoran, Ronan O'Keefe, and Kevin Lebacon.

44 - Spangle was named SHL Commissioner
At the time, Spangle being named commissioner made many people upset. Many were calling for the head of the new Commissioner with #firespangs #spangworstcomiss in nearly every thread. It came far as for the league banning everyone who opposes spangle. Truly facists. It turns out Spangle was one of the best commissioners in the SHL with the implementation of many SHL rules we know today. He became an SHL owner even though he doesn't own SHL.

43 - Dpark gets caught with a multi
This is also the first ever suspened ever recorded in the old SHL suspension section. The now SHL commissioner created a multiple account called boooobmilk and created a player called Chico Salmon, who played for the Montreal Impact. The result of his ban is that his multiple account was removed and as well as Chico Salmon. However, Chico Salmon was later revived for the EEL, and then, as we know it, Park's current player.

His account was also suspended for one whole week and his player was immediately suspended until after next season's all-star break. Spangs however lowered his suspension:

"After talking with Park via e-mail, he seems remorseful enough for me to be willing to lower his suspension down to three days and to 25 games (little less than half the season). "

Park's suspension thread was 27 pages long and the last poster was by a poster called Kearnsisawoman, which was Spang's name at the time.

There was a big arguement that people should be allowed to have multi because it doesn't hurt in anyway but the league opposes. This was when the EEL was created to stop people from creating multiple accounts

42 - Texas Renegades wins the Challenge Cup
The Texas Renegades seems like a team that never started from the bottom. They are an expansion team from season 10 but they have been consistently making the playoffs. They have only missed the playoffs once and that was their first year in the league. Many people question the Renegades trading away their picks like they grow from trees but so far the Renegades have been doing more great in their season than bad. They have been doing better than teams that try to collect draft picks.

41 - Las Vegas Kings moves to Seattle and renames to Riot
This franchise holds the SHL record for franchise relocation. They have moved cities for a total of five times! They have went through name changes for a total of six times! The Seattle franchise was originally the Wisconsin Monarchs with the logo of the Los Angeles Kings. The franchise was then moved to the Vancouver and named Ice Wolves. The franchise went into a name change and was known as the Vancouver Nightmare. They had two logos at their time as the Nightmare. Then the team changed ownership again and relocated to Las Vegas and renamed themselves the Kings. Kind of ironic since they had the LA Kings logo as their very first. Finally they are currently in Seattle, named Riot. Hope this is the last of their change.

40 - Goalie drought
On season 11, the league went through a terrible change. They changed the engine to whatever version it was. The goalies started playing terrible that season with very high scoring games. Never have anyone seen 90 point scorers but that came close to a reality on season 11 when Elias Armia scored 88 points in only 50 games. The goalies were far from impressive. John McBride was the best goaltender in season 11 with a save percentage of 0.903 and goals against average of 2.29. That looks like a save percentage of a back up. The second best goaltender was Tom Corcoran with a save percentage of 0.890 and goals against average of 2.46. Only three goalies had a goals against average of below 3.00!

39 - Cats invade SHL
Way way way back - once upon a time, cats invaded SHL in forms of pictures. They would have threads full of cat pictures. The modern day equivalent would be spiderman pictures. I wonder how many members quit because of cat pictures.

38 - Each NWJHL teams played 90 games each and an end of a junior era!
Season 3 was a weird season. Each NWJHL teams played 90 games each! That is nothing compared to the 50 games that is being played right now! The league only had six teams back then and there were the now relocated or defuncted teams such as the Lethbridge Lions and the Brandon Blazers. Derek Manley of the Kelowna Knights lead the league in scoring with 128 points in 90 games. The leading goal scorer was Kiernan Cassidy with 75 points in 90 games. The best goaltender that season was Jonathan Quicker with a record of 50-27-4. No modern goalie will be able to beat that record unless they go perfect 50-0-0! The Kelowna Knights won the Four Star Cup that season after finishing last place in their conference. They came back from a 3-0 series deficit against the Lethbridge Lions in the conference finals.

37 - Expansion teams make the Challenge Cup finals on their first ever season.
On season 6, the SHL expanded to a total of ten teams. The Los Angeles Panthers and the Minnesota Chiefs were brand new franchise. Nonetheless, no one would have guessed that the two new franchises would make it all the way to the Challenge Cup finals beating all the league's powerhouses. The Los Angeles Panthers would end up winning the Challenge Cup finals in seven games. Ideen Fallah lead the way for the Panthers with 15 points in 12 games while Brodie Witzel for the Chiefs lead his team with 22 points in 17 games.

36 - Dragons finally break out and win not only one cup but two cups
The Calgary Dragons were always overhyped in the off-season. They had a great roster buy they couldn't manage to win anything - regular season nor playoffs. That changed on season 8 when the Dragons finally was able to win a Challenge Cup - their first ever. They would repeat another Challenge Cup the season after. The Dragons would have another first place finish the season after their second straight cup but it didn't materialize into a three-peat. The season after that, the Dragons would fall back from grace finishing fourth in their conference. This period of time was known as the Calgary Dragons Dynasty (Fun fact, there were three well known dynasty in the SHL at the time and all of them were Alberta teams)

35 - Hamilton Steelhawks cinderella run
The Hamilton Steelhawks barely made the playoffs on season 3. They had a record of 15-21-4 good enough for 34 points. The team behind them was the Toronto North Stars - a team that had a record of 16-23-1 for 33 points. If Hamilton have had lost in regulation in their final game, they would have missed the playoffs. Their shootout lost on their final game made the difference between making the playoffs and missing the playoffs.

To show how much Hamilton sucked that season, here is the Eastern conference standings from season 3:

West Kendall Platoon 28-7-5 61 pts
Manhattan Rage 22-9-9 53 points
Hamilton Steelhawks 15-21-4 34 points

The Steelhawks managed to beat the Rage 4-2, and the Platoon 4-1 - both very convincing wins. The Hawks couldn't manage to finish the cinderella run as the Edmonton Comets stopped their tracks with a sweep.

34 - Edmonton franchise dynasties
The Edmonton franchise has the most Challenge Cups in the SHL history with a total of 5, more than double the amount of any SHL teams. Not only that but they are the only franchise to win a back-to-back Challenge Cup twice.

The very first Edmonton Dynasty came on the first seasons of the SHL - namely seasons 3 and 4. They were lead by legends like Jay MacDonald, Sergei Karpotsov, and other players like Richard Metcalf, Patrick Perry, Jeff Hockridge among others. The dynasty would end after the retirement of Sergei Karpotsov, the boom of the league, and the hire of Seth.

The second Edmonton Dynasty is a defensive behemoth lead by a defensive core of Cole Reinhart, Teemu Nurmi, Gene Parmesan among others. They won the Challenge Cup three time in four season with the ability to increase those number. Their recent Challenge Cup win was a complete cinderella run after barely making the playoffs on their last game of the season against the first place Los Angeles Panthers. They would end up beating the Panthers again in the playoffs to boost their confidence.

33 - First time Challenge Cup Wins
As of today, the Challenge Cup has been handed out a total of 24 times! All SHL teams but the Toronto North Stars have won a Challenge Cup in that time span.

The first ever team to win the Challenge Cup was the Winnipeg Jets. They have also won the Cup on Season 7 and Season 19 for a total of 3 Challenge Cups. They are in a 6 season cup drought.

The West Kendall Platoon won their first Challenge Cup on season 2. They would win again on season 5. So far the West Kendall Platoon are on an 19 season cup drought.

The Edmonton franchise has the most Challenge Cup with a total of 5. They won the Challenge Cup on season 3, and 4 as the Comets and 13, 15, 16 as the Blizzard. They are in an 8 season cup drought

The Los Angeles Panthers won their first cup on their second season on season 6 and won again on season 17. So far the Panthers have had many seasons of rebuild but they are currently surging as one of the best teams in the western conference. They Panthers are on a 5 season cup drought.

The Calgary Dragons had a dynasty - winning Challenge Cups from seasons 8 and 9. They are currently finding their form again to compete for a Challenge Cup. So far they have had disappointing conference final exit on Season 11. So far the Dragons are on a 15 season cup drought.

The Minnesota Chiefs had a small but unknown dynasty from their very first time in the SHL. They had many top 2 finishes and were cup favourites for many seasons despite being a new team. They won their first Challenge Cup on season 10 and won another one on season 12. They are on a 12 season cup drought.

The Hamilton Steelhawks were an original six team but saw their first cup only on season 11. They won it again recently on Season 24. They are not in a cup drought currently

The Texas Renegades have consistently made the SHL playoffs and was awarded with a Challenge Cup on season 14. They came back to win a back-to-back cup on Season 20 and Season 21 They are on a 3 season cup drought.

After seventeen seasons without a Challenge Cup, the Seattle Riot finally won their first on season 18. They are the second to last original franchise to win a Challenge Cup. The Riot have not had much success in the following seasons and they are in a 6 season cup drought

After twenty seasons without a Challenge Cup, the Manhattan Rage finally won their first on season 20. They are in a two season cup drough.

The New England Wolfpack are an old team but they are the latest expansion not counting the most recent one that we have so they have not have played many seasons compared to the other teams. However, they won their first cup on season 23. They are in a 1 season cup drought

The Toronto North Stars ar the only SHL original six team that have never won the cup. They, as well, are the only team to have never won a cup. The North Stars cup drought extends to 24 seasons. Yikes!

32 The IHF had more teams than they do now
The IHF used to have a whole lot more teams with any player being able to play on teams that they want regardless of their country. The most popular team at that time were of course the American countries but there was a big support for Team Latvia, Team Kazhakstan, and Team Australia (or was it Austria). There was also Team Ireland, Team Iceland, and of course the basic teams like Team Russia, Sweden, Finland, and such!

31 The Fight Club
The Fight Club was created to enforce many fighting in the SHL. Fighting today is not very popular as it doesn't help the team but back then, fighters have had way more fun including this club. You would bet money to put your player in a pool and when the player fights another player that was in the fight club, they would have their wins, lost, or ties recorded on their player. The player with the best record would win the prize pool. This was quite a popular thing with fancy signature, media attention, and fighter introduction, interview and such.

30 The Bank Manager and The SHL Network
There used to be a separate account for managing the bank and doing play by plays. Yes, that's right. Bank managing was way more difficult back in the day as you would have to log in to another account just so you can edit everything about bank managing. When Bill hacked the league, the Bank Manager posted his retirement. I still don't know if it was Bill or the actual bank manager. Link: http://z7.invisionfree.com/The_SHL/index.p...wtopic=5030&hl=

The SHL Network account was pretty interesting. The reasoning behind it was because it prevent inflation of total post counts. The SHL Network account would make its way on this site only to be disabled because of hacking and people using the account for anonymity

29 Raging Homos
After Bill Lochhead was drafted by the Wisconsin Monarchs then traded to the Manhattan Rage, he was then coined as a raging homo and the entire team was also called the raging homo. Because of this, he raged all over the forum and caused many commotions in PbPs. Bill's punishment was banishment from the league. His friend Gage also went along with him because he was also a raging homo.

28 NWJHL expands
The NWJHL had an expansion up to eight teams. The Lethbridge Lions and the Anaheim Outlaws also relocated. The NWJHL teams from the expansion were the Boston Battalion, Detroit Falcons, Washington Patriots, Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whalers, Prince George Firebirds, Kelowna Knights and the Seattle Stingrays. The SHL then decided to defunct two NWJHL teams as there are not enough new members to fill each team's roster. Unfortunately, the Stingrays and the Patriots had to go.

27 - Biggest SHL Draft
The season 5 SHL entry draft held the most players ever with eight rounds worth of players. Not only that but this season also held the deepest pool of players. This was when the league boomed in activity. The first overall pick that season belonged to the Toronto North Stars, who selected Danielle Hogan. While the first round wasn't really that spectacular with names like Jayson Hornet, Niclas Mastromarino, and Peter Peter Iannitelli not making it that far in the SHL, this draft had names like Frankie Gooseneck and Audun Wissink on the third round, Jackson Turska on the fourth round, Vladislav Smirnov and John McBride on the fifth round, Giovanni Mortellaro on the sixth round, and Brandon Sawyer on the seventh round. This goes to show how much the scouting has improved (or has it really improved or is it just that there are less number of players to scout which makes percentage better)

26 The SHL moves from Invisionfree to Jcink
The first major move the SHL did was moving to Jcink. The SHL was unhappy with the limitation that invisionfree has. Some members also never returned to the SHL again because of the move. Majority of the members were happy of the move because it will provide a cleaner and more organized forums. Today, some talks of another big move has been discussed and possibly started but nothing has materialized yet. The league might be having second thoughts about moving again since it might be prone to hacking and what not.

25 New team and already relocating?
The Buffalo was awarded an SHL franchise and was named the Thunder. Not even a season has passed and the team has already relocated to Hartford and was renamed as Hartford Hydras! The team however didn't last long in Hartford as once again it was relocated to New England and as known today as the New England Wolfpack. No one knows if this franchise will hold a similar fate as the Wisconsin franchise but so far the ownership might be rethinking of another move as the team has dominated their conference. No cups to show for though. That is their next step.

24 - SHL Wikipedia
An SHL wikipedia project was discussed and started on. The leader of the project was a user called IanPhoenix Many people seemed to be interested by making one. It didn't last one season as people stopped contributing articles. The last article created was the Minnesota Chiefs page. At that time, they have never won the Challenge Cup! Boon and JumpierPegasus were the GMs back then. The most popular page is a page of Julian Dupont. It says "Julien Dupont is a big scrub who is the lover of Matthew Ekblad."

The site can be found on http://shl.wikia.com/wiki/Simulation_Hockey_League

23 - Edmonton Blizzard makes it a clean 10-0-0
On season 15, the Edmonton Blizzard won 21 straight games and had their last 10 games, last 10 home games, and last 10 road games go perfect 10-0-0 across the board. The Blizzard win streak would end again the Panthers on the road. The Blizzard at one point in the season have not lost the game in 31 straight games. The Blizzard finished that season with a 38-7-5 record and clinched the president's trophy. The Blizzard also won the Challenge Cup that season.

22- Defenseman leads the league in scoring.
For the first time ever in SHL history, Jason Due, a Las Vegas King defenseman lead the entire league in scoring on season 14. This accomplishment was awarded with the Sarmad Khan Trophy, the Ron Mexico Trophy, and the Scott Stevens Trophy.

21 - Boring NWJHL
Back in season 3 and before, the NWJHL players were not allowed to train their players nor anything. They basically just had to collect cash from PbPs and media in order to increase their draft stock. The NWJHL changed after that season and added TPE caps, training camps, and workouts. It became the junior league that it is today with SHL-like qualities.

20 - The bank gets fucked
Michael Abdalla fooled the bank in the SHL by not withdrawing any money. His player soon became maxed out and people became suspicious of it. Michael Abdalla was then caught cheating and he was forced to retire and all his money was taken by the master bank. It turns out he owed the bank somewhere around 10 million. Abdeezy was also not to be able to take any jobs again in the entire SHL but he got a SMJHL GM job because the SHL is soft as shit.

19 - Very First SHL Update Scale
Back in the days, the SHL didn't have any updates scale. You only have to earn somewhere around 300 TPE over all. This system worked because their point task system at that time was pretty scarce, not even being able to do workout training in the juniors. This however changed when the league had a boost in activity. The SHL had to change their point task structure to attract new members. The result is the TPE being inflated. The SHL had around more than a month of break with the new update scale as players had to redo their player builds. Off-season at those times were around one month long (somewhere along there) so it's not really surprising that the sim updates took more than one month.

18 - Engine 2.1
Engine 2.1 was the engine that had almost everything inflated, from scoring to fighting to goalie save percentage. What didn't get inflates was the shots on goal, even having some games with 10 shots on goals. This made goalies be the least amount of fun in the game. The league didn't really listen to any of the consequences that would happen if this engine was used. This resulted in the fastest engine change in SHL history due to the majority of users not liking it.

This sim engine had a lot of high scoring games. The goals would go until 11 goals for one team. The following link shows a 14 goal game, a 10-4 North Stars win over the Rage: http://simulationhockey.webs.com/Season%2011/SHL-153.html. I do have to feel sorry for the goalies at that time. It looks horrid. Stars goalie gave up 10 goals in 26 shots. That's not even professional level. That looks like something you see in the juniors.

Robert Spezza lead the league in points with 86 points in only 48 games on season 10
Elias Armia lead the league in points with 88 points in only 48 games on season 11.

Now for the painful goalie stats!
On season 10, Mcbride lead the league in save % with 0.903 and a 2.18 GAA
Oh and btw on that season Corcoran finished the season 38-2-3 .... and he also had 32 penalty in minutes. That's what I call a goon (he only had 0.898 save percentage though)
On season 11, John McBride once again lead the league in save percentage with 0.903. He had 2.14 GAA that season

17 - Vancouver Whalers
Vancouver Whalers are the most successful franchise in the SMJHL lately. They have won five Four Star Cups in a span of nine seasons. In that time span, they have had three different management teams. On top of this, the old cups they have won also was in an era where the send-down rules and junior rosters were managed differently. Instead of being eligible to play for the team that drafted the players, it was by an affiliate and send-down basis, making it way more difficult to have a good team consistently. The team however hasn't won a cup in four seasons. They are also playing in a six team league but winning this in a short time-span, different management team, and different core players makes it worth of a mention.

16 - The EEL
Multiple accounts were such a hot topic back in the day. Many people have been caught with a multi. SHL's idea to combat multiple account was to create another league where a player could put their retired player or create a second player. It was supposed to be the league's KHL. Teams in the EEL includes, Copenhagen Pagans, Stockholm Stampede, North Wale Royals, Madrid Conquistadors, Vatican Vipers, and Verona Honey Badgers. The Honey Badgers ended up winning the cup on the only EEL season. The league only lasted one season before the mini-league was deemed inactive. The EEL is a part of the SHL history that shouldn't be forgotten.

15 - North West Junior Hockey League renames to Simulation Major Junior Hockey League
SHL decided to make their lower league more generalized and changed such an iconic name to a boring one: the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. Just like most of the SHL changes, this is probable to copy VHL's VHLM. Now why wouldn't North West fit in the league's name when North America is pretty much located in the north west of the map. It's still such a good name than the boring old Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. Until today, the SHL still uses the term SMJHL to call their lower tier league.

14 - SHL expands to Edmonton and Manhattan
The Simulation Hockey League started as a six team league before expanding to an eight team league a year later. Those two teams were the Edmonton Comets and the Manhattan Rage.
The Edmonton Comets have had a successful franchise with a major lull in the middle of their tenure. They have won five championships, S3, S4, S13, S15, S16.
The Manhattan Rage was a force for a long time. They then have to rebuild. Now they are a force again and recently won a Challenge Cup, their only Challenge Cup on S22

13 - The SHL Gets Rigged
For the number thirteen, we have the SHL getting rigged. No, it wasn't Munk that rigged but Abdeezy. Going by facts that we know, Abdeezy edited his team's special tactics, the Toronto North Stars. They then went into a crazy record of something like 3 losses the entire season. Something like that. Ironically, it was Munk that caught Abdeezy cheating and Munk also took over simming for several seasons. Deezy was handed a two week posting ban, though later in the thread, spangs wrote:
"He's gone for one month and 20 regular season games next season."

12 - First Ever Suspension in the Jcink Site
Saku Perhonen (HabsfanfromOntario) was the first ever member to be suspended in the Jcink Site. On December 29, 2011, lightningbolt444, who was at that time the sole member of the disciplinary committee suspended HabsFanFromOntario because of personal attack. The thread that was linked on the suspension thread is no longer accessible and is deleted.

11 - Locker Rooms used to not be on the top of the page
Back in the days, locker room wasn't existent in the league's front page. They weren't in the bottom or the top of the page. You have to go to your team forum and behold you will see your locker room under Roster and Player Updates.

Thank god that a user was smart to suggest that locker room should be visible on the page to be more accessible. The SHL evolved and moved the locker rooms in different section on the very bottom of the page. Later on, with the change to the SHL layout, the locker rooms moved up to the top of the page. This worked so well because it turns out, everyone likes locker rooms in the SHL.

10 - Spangs got caught looking at other team's locker room

We all knew Spangs has a fetish when it comes to looking at other people's naked bodies. However, this was the moment that it was confirmed that he indeed liked naked bodies. Spangle was the SHL commissioner for a good while. It was the off-season and everyone was hyped about the mock draft. Spangle got caught red handed looking at other team's locker room to improve his mock draft. He also looked at private messages. This abuse of power got spangle suspended but not as severe as having him step down.

9 - Tiggarus vs Witzzel

Tiggarus was just a new rookie. He was very active doing league activities. He grabbed play by plays to earn those free cash. One day, Witzzel came over his thread and called him out on his PbP. Tiggarus was upset and quit the league after the event. SHL might have lost a very active member with that occurrence.

8 - Vatty

Aaah Vatty. He was an immature member of the league. He was a post whore and a troll. He doesn't know grammar and often gets made fun of. He just mysteriously disappeared one day without a trace. He was tired of people calling out on him and making fun of him. The league then targetted a new user called Hallsy. They figured that he was actually Vatty. They were both Oilers fan after all.

It wasn't that difficult knowing Hallsy was Vatty. The entire members then grabbed a pitchfork because it falls under the rule of multiple accounts and Vatty wasn't a well liked member in the league. Little did they know that Vatty had retired. The end of this event was that his money on his old account was all gone.

7 - Team Latvia

With the emergence of new Latvian players, SHL decided to honour that by relocating Russia to Latvia (I believe). The very first IIHF for Latvia landed them a gold medal. Team Latvia would go on to win more gold medals and be one of the most successful IIHF teams in the modern day.

6 - The Disappearance of Shanye Steele

Shanye Steele was a previous active member on the site. He was suspended due to claiming TPE which he never earned (which really shohulda been reviewed by the player updaters because what's the point of linking anyway, eh?). He created a new player and also decided to pay for an SHL website and create an SHL website. The new SHL website wasn't really new since the coding for it was copied off the NHL website's coding. He then later retired and left the league due to personal reasons. Later, he came back to the league with a new player but then subsequently disappeared again.

The SHL website

5 - First ever player drafted

The team with the first overall of the very first ever SHL entry draft was the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets then traded the first overall for the Dragon's 4th and 9th overall pick. The Calgary Dragons then picked Ryan Jesster as the first first overall pick in the SHL history. Ryan Jesster is an icon in the league... a legend. He has made a hall of fame player and as well as won two cups with the Calgary Dragons. Today, Ryan Jesster is retired and succeeded by Evandrus Jesster.

This is awesome stud. However, Minnesota and LA did not make the finals in their first ever season. We expanded in Season 5, and then made the Finals in S6.

Quote:55 - The Challenge Cup moment for the Toronto North Stars
The biggest moments for any teams in the SHL is winning a Challenge Cup. That is different for the Toronto North Stars who has won zero cups. This team is a mess and a disaster. Even their wikia page has not been updated to show their previous playoff record. Their playoff records are probably boring but I do remember them going in the Challenge Cup finals on season 16 or around there. That was their first Challenge Cup finals. This franchise is known as the cursed franchise of the SHL because of these results.

This brings back memories

I'm number 12 and make a cameo in number 11. Badass.

I also got suspended for calling Hallsy an illiterate fuck, which is weird since it's a generally accepted fact.

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
