Meet the Season 25 Portland Admirals
#1

<div align="center">After 24 seasons of play, the SHL finally decided that it was becoming a league that needed more teams to accommodate the growing popularity of hockey in North America. The league introduced two new high flying GM's who were ready to take on the world in Brandon Holmes and Zach Miller. Brandon unveiled his team almost immediately, while Miller unveiled his location, but kept his team name and identity secret until a week later, much akin to the Winnipeg team of 2011 in the National Hockey League after relocating from Atlanta. But after being announced, Miller set on creating a team that could not be walked all over by acquiring highly skilled veterans to help their plethora of rookies on their path to SHL greatness. With the roster finalized, the team was unveiled and we are here to introduce you to the inaugural squad of the Portland Admirals. No captains were unveiled in the press conference, as Miller stated the team would run through the pre-season with rotating alternates as he wanted to see who the leaders were in game time when things got tough.

Chico Salmon
#9 | Centre

Chico Salmon is the prime superstar of the Portland Admirals first season, a player that will sell tickets single handily. Salmon scored an impressive 59 points in 52 games last season in Minnesota, being one of the team leaders, and Portland hopes he can bring that scoring ability to their team being one of the main aces the team will rely on in games. The #1 center for the Admirals, Salmon is signed to a one year deal, so fans hope he either loves the team, or they can get the most out of him that they can.

Armin Brovalchuk
#17 | Centre/Right Wing

Brovalchuk was an offseason acquisition right before the draft. Acquired for the 32nd overall selection that many thought was crazy, considering no one expected Brovalchuk to sign a contract with an expansion team. However immediately after the draft Miller announced that he had signed Armin to a one year contract worth 6 million dollars. Another superstar for the team, Brovalchuk is more the veteran the team wants to bring into the locker room to help out such a young, budding team. His presence has already been felt as many players have gravitated towards his optimistic personality, and he has already shown to be a leader for the team, caring about its direction. However, he is another superstar only signed to a one year contract by Portland, and he does have an NTC to his name, so fans do have to question what his motives are, and if it was worth moving a draft selection.

Buster Killington
#15 | Left Wing/Right Wing

The main player acquired when Portland traded their 5th overall selection for him, a 3rd rounder (which basically ended up becoming Armin Brovalchuk), and a future 4th rounder, Killington looks to bring his SHL ready ability to the first line right away. A main player the team will rely on for the rest of his career, Killington is going to be the cornerstone of this franchise. One of the most well respected young players in the league, Killington has stated that he is ready for SHL play, and to be one of the young leaders in the SHL. After showing not only offensive skill, but also massive physical skill in the SMJHL, there is so much to get excited over with this kid in Portland.

Nickolaus Scholz
#19 | Centre

Portland's first ever draft selection was one that had many people going "they got an underrated stud". Scholz immediately started offseason weight training, and immediately started his work on his play on the ice because he knew that he was going to be playing in the SHL as a true rookie. His first SHL season will be a big one, as he will be relied on in the top 6, centering the 2nd line alongside Scherbluk and Anderson. That's a pretty daunting task for any rookie, especially a 2nd rounder. But Scholz is not just any 2nd rounder, his play in the SMJHL was great on Kelowna's 2nd line, and the amount of effort put forth from the draft to now is some of the most effort of any S25 draftee. Portland has two big prospects to be excited about now in both Killington and Scholz, and should only have many more to cheer about come the Season 26 draft.

Yousuf Scherbluk
#21 | Centre/Right Wing

The last of the veteran presence on a young team, Scherbluk has bought into the team atmosphere almost immediately. A down season for him in the last year, he is coming off a rather large suspension, and limited playing time on Edmonton's third line. Expect for him to get a much larger increased role with Portland this upcoming season and start to play lights out again this season. Scherbluk is a player who has stated that he would love to come back to the team for another season and possibly retire an Admiral in the next few seasons, so time will tell if he does want to be a part of the core, helping out the younger players for the rest of his career.

Thomas Anderson
#72 | Left Wing

A player picked up in the expansion draft, Miller commented that he was genuinely surprised to see him there in the draft and at his pick. Anderson has been a solid bottom 6er in the SHL for the Manhattan Rage since Season 23, and now will be given the opportunity to show he has the drive and offensive ability to play wing in a teams top 6. He has shown incredible defensive prowess at the SHL level, but never has posted more than 15 points in a season, but now is his time to shine in Portland. Anderson will be a great complimentary player for seasons to come after signing a 3 year contract with the team that insures that they get to keep this young SHL'er as they become a more powerful team.

Max McDonald
#91 | Centre

Max McDonald, the son of legendary forward Jay McDonald, has had a bit of a mediocre career. While still being good enough to hold down an SHL spot, he's been a spotty 4th liner for much of his career. One of the last few selections of Portland in the expansion draft, McDonald will center their third line but this may be his last team before he is out of the NHL. If he can get it together in Portland they did some magic, however all signs point towards a fine bottom 6er to start the teams career, but nothing more after that.

Rehn Miller
#78 | Left Wing

Miller will complete his final season in a Portland uniform, as he announced that he was retiring next offseason after a long career. His will play wing on Portland's 3rd line before he finally leaves the league. Not much can be said about Miller other than in his prime he was a feared center playing for the Hamilton Steelhawks. Since that prime he has wavered a little bit, but will still be able to compete quite well on the third line in Portland. He has become a useful bottom 6er in the end of his career, and will be remembered as strong, and one of the better two-way players of his day.

Mikhail Kladno
#74 | Centre/Right Wing

Kladno is your prototypical top 9 player. He hits, can play defense, is strong on the puck, and has offensive awareness. There is a known lack of compete from his player for much of his career, but many have dismissed it, saying that the skill makes up for it. Finally starting to get into the later stages of his career, he will likely finish it out in the top 9 of Portland, being one of the grittier, more skilled players on the ice. Hopefully the attitude of Kladno won't leak over onto the young impressionable minds of rookies, but it hasn't seemed to happen on any team Kladno has played for yet.

Pal Vikingstod
#29 | Defense

The 2nd selection of Portland at the expansion draft. Familiarity between Miller and Vikingstod was probably the driving factor as Miller was his GM in St. Louis of the SMJHL. Vikingstod has put a ton of effort forth right after being drafted, as he wants to show Toronto that they made a mistake having him be the one they put forward in the expansion draft. Forever him and Michael J Caboose will be compared, as they are very comparable defenders, and Caboose went one selection before Vikingstod in the expansion draft. Vikingstod will be playing his rookie season this year after half a year in St. Louis in Season 23 and a great full year in Season 24. He is still one of the newer players, being closer to player from the Season 24 draft in his birthdate than to those in his own Season 23 draft class. He is already projecting as a guy who could normally side into a top 4 very easily, but he will have to take it one step further and be a #1 in Portland on a weak defense.

Drizzy Drake
#14 | Defense

Drake is an aging veteran. A solid member of the Rage through their Cup win, he has experience of being part of several major playoff runs. One of the most decorated players that is unknown to a lot of people. He has been a good bottom pairing guy as his career winds down, but now, on his old legs, will have to carry a top 4. It will be difficult, but he could come back around and be a very effective player for Portland, or he could crack under the immense pressure. Drake has experience and great veteran leadership, but is he a great choice for an expansion team that wants to be young?

Kodiak Clark
#66 | Defense

Clark is a beast of a defender. Another player Miller is familiar with from St. Louis, Clark has shown to be a bit more driven since being a part of Miller's team again, a GM he has stated that he was extremely fond of. Clark will start as the teams big body on the back end, delivering massive hits to get the crowd into the game and hopefully be able to turn momentum. Look for him to be utilized in every defensive situation the team has to face, and to log some big minutes.

Alens Paurs
#3 | Defense

Paurs, another former Scarecrow, has been one of the quietest current SHL top 4 defenders. While nothing overly special, Paurs is young and has proven to be solid on the back end for every team he plays for. He will be a player Portland has to rely upon on the 2nd pairing. Look for Paurs to want to step his game up so he can get an extension once the season is over in Portland, or maybe even interest other teams that may want to take a crack at him for their 6 man defensive roster

Nikita Nevzorov
#95 | Goalie

Miller made is clear in the offseason he was hoping to acquire a starting goalie, despite having a top goaltending prospect in Nikita Nevzorov at his disposal. Miller knew he wasn't ready to be a starter, and instead of seeing him get shelled he wanted to bring someone in. He stated that he was looking towards signing Dymo Ranjan from Minnesota, but he ended up in Texas, and Miller ended up without a starter. So now, coming straight out of a whirlwind season where Nevzorov played in the KHL and SMJHL for about 15-20 games each, he will be a starter in the SHL. While he himself has stated he doesn't feel prepared, he will need to backstop Portland for around 40 games, as he builds up both his ability and his confidence. He must have the mental capacity to not look back at this season after it is done as a failure no matter what.

Mike Schmidt
#1 | Goalie

After failing to land a starter, Miller brought in former North Star/Whaler Mike Schmidt. After being unable to find a spot in the SHL last season, playing in Europe, and contemplating retirement, Schmidt ended up being able to sign in Portland and took the first flight over to get started with his new team. He will play backup to Nevzorov this season as Portland will boast one of the most inexperienced goalie groups in the history of the SHL. This will gain both of them vital experience, but who knows if Schmidt will even be an Admiral for an extended period of time.

This team actually has a lot of talent. Playoff team in the east tbh. Probably a 15 win team in the west though.

definitely not

barely any depth and goaltending is way to young to compete

but that's to be expected of an expansion team

Two different teams for sure. Both with different strategies on building a team. Going to be interesting to see whose pays off in the next few seasons. Best of luck JP!

I didn't even remember posting that. Clearly the beer talking. I'll give it a shot, but if he's not a good kisser you owe me a (strong) beer.
