The first period saw the Halifax Raiders on two power plays; however, they failed to score on either one. Johnny Cahill was sent to the sin bin twice in just over five minutes, which put his team at a disadvantage. Tough play is always encouraged, but you never want to be reckless. With two and a half minutes left in the period, Halifax’s big point man Conall MacLeod gave a brilliant pass off the boards to Clayton Fuller, who slipped it ahead to the streaking Ignant Ogorodnikov, who buried it past Lee Bowden for the Raiders’ 1-0 lead!

2nd period

The St. Louis Scarecrows continued to not be able to stay out of the penalty box, committing four more penalties in this period. Luckily for them, the Raiders were 0 for 7 on the power play in this game. However, the offense was just as dry for the Scarecrows, who barely had any even strength time to try to tie up the score. They only mustered up four shots in the second period.

This time, it was Halifax who couldn’t stay out of the penalty box. St. Louis still failed to convert, though. Even though they fired off seven shots, Raiders goalie Brett Broadway stopped them all, en route to a shutout and his fourth win of the year. Lee Bowden was also solid in net for STL, but that wasn’t enough to prevent the loss.

The Falcons got off to a strong start, converting on their first power play, which stemmed from a hooking penalty. Kein Monesti was right in front of the net during the 5 on 4, and tipped in the Wendell Luna shot to get his team on the board. The Falcons ended up with 15 shots in the period, but only scored once.
2nd period

The Firebirds would come back to take the lead in the second. Rookie star Scotty Reay scored three minutes into the second period. Both goals in the period were assisted by Niklas Svensson, who continued to dazzle with passing expertise. Detroit did not have nearly the kind of period they had in the first, and couldn’t score any.

This period had penalties galore, and also had scoring excitement as well. Sam Pellegrino tied it midway through, and had Detroit fans thinking they could pull this one out. But five minutes later, it began to look bleak again. Shea Robinson scored his third goal of the year, and the Prince George Firebirds regained the lead. 3-2 is where it would stand, as neither team found the net again for the rest of the game. Tim Tocchet got his first SMJHL win in a very solid showing.
