DETROIT – The relationship between the Detroit Falcons and Russian import, Viktor Nerokov, is already off to a rocky start. The two-way centreman exited the ice following Sunday’s final game of the preseason and did not have the greatest of things to say:

“Team has played great but unfortunately I am not contributor”, Nerokov vented to reporters after the Falcons wrapped up their 7th straight win. “Coaches not allowing me to play much and it’s not right...not what I came here for.”

Nerokov has averaged a little more than 13 minutes per game, the 3rd fewest of all forwards in Detroit. Word emerged from league buzz feeds earlier in the week that Nerokov approached management regarding his lack of playing time and that an agreement was made. His agent, the very outspoken Harvey Hustle, gave a radio interview earlier in the week and was none too pleased:

“Viktor Nerokov is a great player that looks average because he is not in the right situation”, Hustle said on the Open Mike morning radio show Tuesday.

“We understand Detroit is trying to win but Viktor is trying to make a good first impression. He was 47th overall in the SMJHL draft because of a late entry. He will not be such a low pick in the SHL draft due to Detroit’s lack of exposure. We were assured by the Falcons that playing time would not be an issue when Viktor signed and yet here we are...not even out of the preseason...”

SMJHL scouts had high hopes for Nerokov’s transition to the SMJHL but thus far it’s been nothing more than a singled goal and two points over 16 games. Nerekov sports the lowest shooting percentage on the team but if you ask him, the poor numbers are a product of his place within the Detroit lines.

“...poor fit for me”, said Nerokov. “I am two-way forward who doesn’t get to play any penalty kill or play with wings who I should be paired with. “

Nerokov was asked if the lack of ice time had anything to do with his effort, to which he vehemently denied:

“No, no. I give maximum effort every time I lace up skates. Problem in Detroit is too many centers. We negotiated my contract and nobody say anything about two centers being sent down from SHL teams. If I know that, I might have refused to sign contract.”

I feel bad for Nerokov. Poor guy is stuck in DET. He deserves better. Crutch better get on the horn!

I see a few things here. A mediocre build is one. A guy with a worse build sucking up all of the scoring chances (and actually capitalizing somehow) is another. The third most important thing is the dude with the lowest points-per-20 minutes on the team crying about deserving more playing time.

If you want more, you should buy a sim from Simon, cuz this league has 8 full rosters now. I'm sure if you remain patient [and cordial], though, you'll get your time.
