The Detroit Falcons Vs Prince George Firebirds

Welcome everyone to tonights post game show, where we will be recapping the action that took place between the Detroit Falcons and the Prince George Firebirds.

The first period was a physical one, 5 penalties accorded in total, 3 to Detroit and 2 to Prince George. However, Prince George was all over Detroit from start to end of this period, it seemed like Detroit could only get chances on their powerplays. The shots were 11-6 for the birds of fire, but they could not beat McSieve, and headed into the 2nd with a 0-0 draw.

In the 2nd period, the story was incredibly different, with only 6 shots on goal this time, the Firebirds took a 2-0 lead, despite Detroit dominating the scoring chances with 14 shots on target. The secret? Powerplays!

Josh Merica took an early penalty which the Birds scored on within just 4 seconds in the penalty, when Boone made a great move off the draw, Castro getting the loose puck and finding an un-marked Selich who fired it home. Not even a full minute later, Free took a penalty, and the Birds scored again at the 3:01 mark of the 2nd period, with a goal from Cukurs, who deflected a shot as he was crossing the shooting late, Noretornable was the shooter of a one timer, set up by Wolf.

That woke the Falcons up, as they went on to dominate the period, but Waters stood tall. In the 3rd, it was nearly the same show shots wise, 15-6 this time for Detroit, but they managed to score on, on the powerplay as well, just 42 seconds in. Vikstrom has the puck in the corner, dug out it to Metzler who passed to Evans right in the slot, and he made no mistake.

The Falcons pressed hard to get their tying goal, but Waters was outstanding, and Selich added his 2nd of the season near the final minute of the game, when Boone and Pollack set him up with a beautiful tic tac play on the 3-1.

3 - Frederick Boone (PGF) with 2 assits

Our MVP for tonight, well it has to be Ben Waters. He took an onslaught of shots in the last 2 periods. I mean, 35 in a game is a lot, but to think his first period he only faced 6 shots. That means 29 in 2 periods. He was only beaten once, and was the key to the Firebirds winning this one.
