<div align="center">St. Louis Scarecrows @ Kelowna Knights Week 7, Game 117 0-1
The St. Louis Scarecrows left Kelowna in a bit of a daze following Game 117 of S31, wondering just how they had been shutout. On a night that the Scarecrows dominated the shot count 31-17, the lone goal of the game was from Geronimo Otto a mere 3:55 into the game. He capitalised on his own rebound to light the lamp and ultimately provide Kelowna with the victory.
Both teams were ineffective on the PP, with 4 opportunities squandered each. The contest also saw a fight 8:37 through the second period, as Vasily Horvat and veteran fighter Danny Foster battled to a draw.
It was the Manhattan Rage's Jason Aittokallio who was the star on the night, putting in a truly phenomenal performance with a 31 save shutout. King Hanley in particular will be upset, as he had 7 shots denied by the Finn. Kyle Wahlgren had a solid game in the other net, picking up the third star with a 0.941 save percentage on 17 shots. The Scarecrows were dominant in most facets of the game, but when your goaltender turns up like Aittokallio did in this one, you can get away with being slightly outplayed.</div>
It was a very uncharacteristic game from Kelowna, who usually is the team that ends up with most shots taken. St.Louis played some strong defensive hockey to limit the Knights to so little shots. Aittokallio surpisingly held on strong, in spite of his lack of endurance, to get the shutout.
Overall a boring and uncreative game from both sides.

While neither team's power play was up to the task in this one, Kelowna's PP was extra abysmal for most of the game. On their first 3 power plays of the game, they only managed ONE shot on goal. St. Louis had just as many shots on goal during that span of time. They finally got it together on the final PP of the game, getting four shots on goal, though Wahlgren was up to the task.
St. Louis pulled Wahlgren in the last minute of the game, and despite solid puck possession, they only managed one shot on goal. The Scarecrows needed to show a stronger sense of urgency.
Adriana Starosta prevented the game from being tied early in the third period. Just 10 seconds into the period, Aittokallio made a save on King Hanley and the rebound kicked out to Jason Visser. With the goalie out of position, Visser took a shot on an open net, and Starosta threw her body in front of the shot, blocking it just in time.
Three Stars
1. Jason Aittokallio (31 saves, Shutout) I mean, this one is self-explanatory. Aitto came to play tonight, and that chip on his shoulder from not being drafted as the first goalie off the board in the SHL draft even made a few saves in this one as he set out to prove that he's better than Wahlgren.
2. Geronimo Otto (1 Goal) The only player crafty enough to solve the puzzles that were the goaltenders in this matchup. In a game where only one goal was scored, usually that player gets a star in my book.
3. Kyle Wahlgren (16 saves on 17 shots) A bright spot in a season that will never be classified as the "best ever" for a goalie, Wahgren was very sharp and looked like the goaltender everyone knows he is. Unfortunately, the young Crows couldn't get a goal for him.

For those who enjoy the more ... ahem ... physical elements of the game, Kelowna-St. Louis provided a juicy matchup - Vasily Horvat vs. Danny Foster. Foster is the resident "goon" of the SMJHL, but Horvat has challenged that title by holding the league lead in hits throughout S31.
Vasily Horvat: 15:22 TOI, 5 PIMs, 2 hits
Danny Foster: 12:11 TOI, 7 PIMs, 1 hit
Unfortunately for those looking for crunching hits from the top two bruisers in the league, it was a quiet night between whistles for the two players. They made up for it in the second period, however, as the two warriors dropped the gloves and got the crowd on its feet. There was no clear winner of the fight, which will only build anticipation for their next meeting.
The game winner in this game came only 3:55 into the first period of the game. Otto won the faceoff directly back to Richie Pecker in the Scarecrows. Otto wheel out of the faceoff dot and towards the net. Pecker gave a hard pass to Otto, who took a shot. The shot bounced off the post and to the other side of the net. Otto was already ahead of the play and easily retrieved the puck. This time he would make no mistake and put right into the back of the net past a sprawling Kyle Wahlgren.

Nice effort by the Scarecrows. On paper you would appear to be over-matched. Yet you out shot the Knights 31 to 17 and ended up losing the game 1 to 0. That wasn't the result you deserved.
Jason Aittokallio stones King Hanley off a rare turnover in the neutral zone by Hohenberg
Aittokallio really honoured the family name tonight with his stellar 31-of-31 save night. It's been a tough rookie season for Jason, but he's risen to the challenge multiple times and it can be assured that he will have a lengthy and high-production career. Tonight was a prime example of Aittokallio's heart and Kelowna is profiting much.
Joe Kurczewski lays a hit on an unsuspecting Alex Light
Kurczewski ended up leading the Scarecrows in points by the end of the season, but it his efforts weren't enough tonight as the Scarecrows were edged out of 2 points tonight. Joe also lead all forwards on the 'Crows in hits with 59 at the end of the year - an imposing physical force is just what the Scarecrows will want for next season as a lot of their core from the past two seasons are being called up to the big leagues.
Otto, Geronimo dekes almost the entire Scarecrows line up to score his 12th of the season
Otto had a stellar night, registering 3 shots on goal, including the game's only goal midway through the first period. He also won half of his face off draws, and played 20+ minutes in the night. Otto proves to be a brilliant draft now in his second season.
King Hanley was absolutely snakebitten that night, leading the Crows in shots with seven, but was kept off the scoresheet like the rest of them. It's been a down year for the Crows in general, but let's take a look at how his season has gone. Hanley had five goals and seven assists for twelve points on the year. That's not great, and it seems Hanley really struggled with his shotthis year, shooting only 5.32%. Hanley had the worst +/- on the team this year, finishing -20. Hanley clearly has some scoring ability, so the Crows will need that to come through if they want to make a playoff run. He only took 10 minutes in penalties this year, so that's encouraging. If Hanley can provide some depth scoring, that will help the Crows chances at an upset over Halifax.
---
Jason Visser had a great game, honestly. Four shots, three hits, and was a very solid 14 of 23 in the faceoff circle. He turned in shifts in all facets of the game, with extended penalty killing time that kept things tight. A fantastic effort from a player that has been a steady asset for the Crows this year despite their frustrating season. This game will certainly go under the "frustrating" category.
Darryl Landry also had a decent game, getting two shots off from the blueline and blocking three shots while killing penalties and playing immaculate defense. His 3:18 of PK time was among the leaders for the Crows, and he wasn't one of the four different Crows that took minor penalties tonight.
It was a line of rookies that the game's only goal came against. Nate Akeson, Derek Grejzcyk, and King Hanley were the forwards, with ze German Wall on defense (Max Weber and Zacharias Widener). The rookie group has been somewhat underwhelming, with S31 SMJHL fourth overall pick Max Weber fading a bit as the season went on despite a strong start. The group will have a shot in the playoffs to make good on the promise they showed at the beginning of the season.
