I want to start out this little "article" by asking what the shl needs in the head office. Personally i think the qualities that would best exemplify a member of head office are plenty, let's take a look at them. Dedication to the league, a member of the head office has to be invested in the league. Passion for the league, a member of head office must want what is best for the league as a whole, a true passion for the league will ensure this is the case. Knowledge of the league, a member of head office has to know about the inner workings of the league. The most important, i believe, is the willingness to participate, constructively, in discussion. Obviously there are many more qualities that a member of head office needs to have, but i believe these are the three most important. Now I'd like to tell you all why i embody all these qualities.
Dedication: I'm not going to talk about any awards like the littleton or any other most dedicated awards here. While I do think those are great awards, and honor great members of the community, many of those who have won are already in these positions of power, and there are many extremely dedicated members who's dedication is showed in a different way. Other than the great members who have won a Littleton, I think I am one of, if not the most dedicated member in the SHL, and here's why. By my third season in the SHL i held over 6 jobs, and the largest bank account in the SHL. If this tells you one thing, it's that I'm willing to dedicate a lot of my time to the SHL. I spend hours a week making signatures, or writing thousands of words for articles, and this is because I am so dedicated the the growth and my own involvement to this league. I've dedicated so much of my life and time to this league, so you know I'll be dedicated to doing this job right. Passion My passion for this league is unmatched. Anyone can challenge me on that statement, and I will tell you why I am. I am on the SHL about half of my day. That's not because I don't have other things I could be doing. It's because I want to spend my time here because it's what i enjoy. I spend hours building my player for the same reason we all do. I want everyone in this league to share the same passion for it as I do. My whole time in the SHL has been built on making the SHL better for other members. In my first juniors season I wrote an article on each member of the scarecrows because at the time i knew some members were worried about where they were going to be drafted. So I talked them up so that they could be drafted earlier. Before this past SMJHL draft I wrote an article including a blurb on every prospect (up to a certain point). I didn't do this for my bank account, I did this so that all the new players get to see someone talking about them, because we all love to read about our own player. The reason I'm telling you these things is so that you know I have the interest of the whole league at heart. Many other candidates tell you the same thing, but who else shows such a passion for making this place fun for every member? Knowledge I've held a position in almost every major job section in the SHL. In the past I've been the SMJHL's head pt director, a media grader, a graphics grader, head updater, regular updater, fantasy manager, rookie mentor, I've been on the all-star committee, and I've been an IIHF federation head. All these job titles has given me a vast knowledge of the inner workings of the league. I've seen the issues that arise and I have ideas to improve a lot of these areas. People who haven't held these jobs don't know exactly how these things work behind the scenes, which is important for a head office member to do. Pariticipation This is arguably the most important thing a member of head office has to do. They ahve to have their own original ideas, as well as be able to weigh in on anyone else's idea. If I'm elected I will be great at participating in discussion. One of the biggest things you need when deciding whether an idea is good or not is to think of all the counter-arguments against it. If you know why an idea is bad, then you can refine and fix it. In highschool i did varsity debate, and I was known for coming up with the best on the spot rebuttal speeches. I am able to think of reasons why something might go bad, and I am able to think of reasons to fix them. Someone who is in head office needs to be active and vocal, and that's just who you're getting when you vote for me. If you have any questions you can post them here or you can pm me. If elected I will make sure that I do my best to do what is best for this league, and that's all you can really ask. EDIT: It's time to give someone new a chance, don't vote someone in who was already part of the BoD, they aren't in the HO anymore for a reason, they already had they're chance, it's time for something new. ![]() ![]() Affiliate of: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered S28 Challenge Cup Champion and Shatman |
