Contract Structure Proposal
#1

So, in order to sort of get the ball rolling for HO, we'll be having a weekly vote on topics so that we can finalize ideas, and decide whether or not to implement something. There's been a lot of topics of discussion, but the most important one seems to be about contract structure. We will begin voting on the proposal (with potential changes based on feedback) either tomorrow or monday, depending on the situation.

The first one is a potential change to the rules of contracts.

Quote:Contract Structure Proposal:

STARTING IN S33 (all contracts signed to take effect from the time of announcement must be in compliance with this)
-Addition of a new salary cap tier, such that:
Tier 5 = 1000-1299 TPE (4 mil)
Tier 6 = 1300+ TPE (5 mil)

-The hometown discount is eliminated

STARTING IN S34:
-ALL contracts will be adjusted upwards during the off-season (including contracts that were signed prior to the announcement), according to TPE level. For example, Player A has 400 TPE at the end of S32. During Free Agency, Player A signs a contract for 2 seasons, at 2 mil per season. During S33, Player A passes the 500TPE threshold and passes into the next salary tier. During the off-season between S33 and S34, Player A’s salary and salary cap hit are increased to 3 mil for S34.

-Contracts are only adjusted up.

-TPE for contract adjustment is based on all TPE EARNED prior to the updating week during which the SHL playoffs conclude (including Championship Week PTs even if they are not tabulated until after the conclusion of that updating week). It does not matter when this TPE is claimed in an update thread, if it is earned before the final game of the playoffs it counts toward the contract adjustments.

We know there will be disagreements, so we would like to hear any feedback on what you think is wrong, needs to change, or even agree with.

Always, starting S34

I say any deal that extends over 10 seasons gets scrapped and renegotiated (those people are more than likely sticking around), and from here on out we have a max term of 8.

We were discussing a potential solution to that, so that grandfathered contracts can either stay the same, or cut off after a certain point. I don't think we were able to agree on anything definite yet, but TBD.

I don't know if I agree with getting rid of the hometown discount entirely....I also think if this were to be done as written (that is to say, with getting rid of the hometown discount) you'd probably also need to look at whether or not the current salary cap will still work because suddenly half the league's contracts will double.

Pandar crunched the numbers, and I believe only one team in S33 would go over, but by s34 everyone would be ok.

Also, what would the penalty be for people (like we saw with Buffalo) who try to circumvent the rules and don't claim the TPE until late? Just readjustment of the contract, or forfeiture of the TPE?[/quote]

This will probably be the most difficult thing to enforce. A possible solution is to simply have a hard cutoff date by the end of a week before the following activity check begins. Any points not claimed within that last week will be forfeited. This would also help with regression.

What about those 60+ year deals that some people have been doing?

I say any deal that extends over 10 seasons gets scrapped and renegotiated (those people are more than likely sticking around), and from here on out we have a max term of 8.

I like it overall

but we should try to get a team a chance of min one inactive player to reconstruct the contract and the salary to the min payment! but only if the player isnt on the same team what gave him this huge contract! or the former GM! not important for me! but we all should have this one option Smile

I agree with this.

I wouldn't scrap the hometown discount entirely, though. Maybe lessen how much you can cut off of your contract by like, 500k-1 million depending on which tier you're at, rather than being able to halve the number entirely.

It might also be worth it to add another tier on top of the 1300 one for players who have eclipsed that number, in addition.

Does it matter? Under the proposal, their contracts would be shifted up to the proper tier anyway.

We have also been discussing some type of cap penalty for released or retiring players on those long term contracts but it's in the early stages yet.

I wouldn't even touch this until the meat of contracts is figured out.

1. No more hometown discounts (YES)
2. Added tier for TPE (YES)
3. Restructure current contracts based on new rules (YES)

I would add:

4. Maximum 8 year contract

Call it a day.

Considering players in the league sign for 20 million on the regular I can't see why it wouldn't.
