S32 Championship Week
#16

TASK ONE:

Where were you when the back to back Challenge Cup champions went for their three-peat? Where were you when public enemy number 1, Vlad McZehrl and his Manhattan Rage stepped up to take on the behemoth that was the Wolfpack? Were you there when the Rage outscored New England 9-2 in Wolfpack territory? Were you there in overtime in game 3 in Manhattan when rookie netminder Aittokallio put up 41 saves to make it a 3-0 series lead? Were you there in double OT in game 4 where VLAD played 45 minutes? Were you there when the giants fell? When David overcame Goliath? Do you have your S32 broomstick to relive those memories when the dreams of a three-peat became a nightmare? Get it now while it's still available as you can tell your friends that you were there to watch the wolf cry as they were swept by the Manhattan Rage.

TASK TWO:

It's tough to pick the biggest game of the playoffs this season but I'm going to give it to Game 7 of the opening round between Minnesota and New England. The defending champions looked on pace to roll through their way to the Finals as usual as they went up 3-1 against Minnesota but the Chiefs fought hard and came out on top of two 1 closely contested 1 goal games in Game 5 and 6 facing elimination. Game 7 started out as a disaster for the defending champions as an early penalty found them down 1-0 as the Chiefs came out hard. Starting the second period off on a powerplay Flacko potted one in to make it 2-0. He followed that up a minute later with another power play tally to make it 3-0. Less than 30 seconds later he completed his natural hat trick and it looked like the Chiefs had done it and were finally going to put an end to the Wolfpack's reign of terror. But then the championship pedigree of New England came through and they slowly but surely came back in the game. 5 goals from 5 different players had New England come back from 4-0 to put an end to the Minnesota Chief's dreams.

TASK FOUR:

This season's MVP race is rather interesting as we have a record-breaking season in scoring for Vlad McZehrl of the Manhattan Rage, a breakout year for the LA panthers where Chris Crutchfield almost put up a point per game tally and Brett Broadway who willed his team into the playoffs and made a patchwork defense look impeccable all with very little goal support.

VLAD put up 70 points on the season and beat out Lord Pretty Flacko of the Chiefs who he was going neck and neck with in the league point's rankings. The hit against him is that he played close to 28 minutes a game which was more than any Rage defenseman and 3rd in the league behind Flacko and Lidstrom. Another knock is that despite his 70 points he still finished with a -2 rating on the 2nd seed team in the East. That's not a very inspiring 2-way effort. As for Crutchfield it's hard to give him the MVP as we're not even sure he's the MVP of his team since kind of exploded this season and had career years for many of their players. Cunningham led the team in points, Strange had a breakout year, Ruutu was a rock of a defensive defenseman as Crutchfield's partner. Everything came together for that team. Broadway on the other hand put up a record breaking season as well with 8 shutouts and a 2.02 GAA. Edmonton moved diminutive forward Theo Kane to the blue line to fill the void of Jackson-Rogers Tanaka and Broadway made him look like a Stevens nominee. I'm giving the edge to Broadway this season

TASK FIVE:

Lets take a step back from all the playoff action going on and take a look at some of the stars in the SHL that aren't participating in the post season. Here's All-Star lineup of players who's teams didn't make it into the playoffs:

LW - Toronto North Star forward Damien Wert highlights the forward core here as had a monstrous break out season putting up 51 points but still couldn't pull his team into that 4th seed in the East.
C - Texas Renegades center Geoffrey Allen came oh so close to the playoffs as Texas just got edged out by LA due to a tiebreaker. The franchise centerman put up 23 goals this season.
RW - Luke Fleming of the Winnipeg Jets put up another great regular season performance finishing with 44 points but it wasn't enough in the tough Western conference to get anywhere close to the playoffs.

D - Friedrich Muller was the only bright spot on the season for Buffalo as they just lost out to Minnesota in a tiebreaker for the final playoff spot in the East. Another 20+ goal season for the offensive defenceman caps a great career for the old German.
D - Vladimir Lidstrom continues his strong play on the blue line for Texas putting up 38 assists.

G - Another Renegade player here as Christoffer Bjornsson is making his way up the SHL goaltender rankings as he finished with 2.40 GAA and 4 shut outs on the season.

TASK ONE: Create a giveaway for a unique piece of playoff memorabilia. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words, if graphic, must include a picture of the item and the team logo.

Ladies and Gentleman! As you make your way down to the Saddledome in Calgary for the Challenge Cup Finals, you’ll be smart to stop by the Pavilion after you get your tickets scanned to enter the rink! Why? Well, to include yourself in a special Dragons Drawing! That’s right, everyone with a ticket is eligible for this prize. What is it you ask? Well, it’s a Dragon’s Egg. Our owner won a high stakes game of Baccharat and in doing so he’s won a 17.4 pound, Red Quartz egg, straight from a Prince in Abu Dhabi. The egg is believed to be one of the last of its kind, as it was a real Dragon egg from centuries ago. It was buried, and hardened into the egg you see today. It’s value isn’t measurable in dollars and cents. And ignore anything you might hear about it bringing bad luck and spirits into your home that will haunt you! Oh no! Our Owner wants one of his loyal fans to display this proudly in their home! Get your tickets to the game ASAP and GOOD LUCK!!!

TASK TWO: What has been the biggest game of the playoffs so far? Can be either SHL or SMHJL, 150 words.

I feel like you’re going to get this game a lot, but it has easily been the biggest game of the playoffs so far. Round 1 of the SHL playoffs, Game 7 between the two-time defending champion New England Wolfpack, and the Minnesota Chiefs. The Chiefs came into this game the hotter team, coming back from a 3-1 series deficit to force the seventh game. They won Game 6 in the 3rd overtime on a Banananov goal. In Game 7, Minnesota brought that recent good play right off the bat. They went up 1-0 just about 3 minutes into the game on a power play goal by Byron Knox. That’s how the first period would end. The second period would be even more Minnesota friendly to start, as Lord Pretty Flacko FINALLY broke through and got his first goal of the series just 44 seconds into the period. But wait! Flacko would go on to add his 2nd and 3rd goals of the game in the next minute and a half, and Minnesota had the champs on the ropes, 4-0. But the dream was not to be. Tim Buckner would make it 4-1 a short time later, and Makinen would cut the lead to 4-2 before the period was done. The third period was a thing of SHL lore. New England would score three goals, including the series winner with just 1:15 left in the period by Patrikov Bure, and the champs would win the series while ripping the hearts out of Minnesota.

TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.

I don’t think this is for the playoff MVP, since there’s (as of press time) 3-6 games left in the Challenge Cup Finals. With that, I’ll give my choice for the regular season MVP. Now, there’s a few players at the top of the scoring leaders that were impressive. Lord Pretty Flacko had 36 goals. Vlad McZehrl lead the league with 70 points. But really, the Top 4 in scoring seem to be there because they play damn near half of the game. That feels so wrong. What is realistic though is that the Edmonton Blizzard had another good season. But they seem to lack a “Super Duper” star. They’re getting older on both sides of the ice. So how did they stay so competitive? Brett. Broadway. Broadway was the class of goaltenders this year, leading the league in Save percentage AND Goals Against Average. He was second in Wins. And he lead the league in shutouts as well with eight. No other two goaltenders in the league combined had more shutouts than Broadway did alone. It is because of all of that that I believe Brett Broadway is the player that is most valuable to his team. Edmonton may not have made the playoffs this season if they had a lesser goaltender.

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words.

After searching through the “non-playoff” teams, It’s pretty clear that there are some pretty good players that we didn’t have the chance to see perform during the “real” season. Here’s the “Joe Kurczewski Best of the Rest All-Stars”:

Goalie:

Christoffer Bjornsson, Texas Renegades Renegades. Bjornsson was very good in Texas this season, as he posted a 2.40 Goals Against Average and a 91.0% Save percentage to go along with 4 shutouts. All of those numbers were tops for goaltenders that didn’t make the playoffs.

Defense:

Friedrich Muller, Buffalo Stampede Stampede. Muller had a heck of a farewell tour, posting 21 goals (lead all defenseman) and 27 assists. He finished second overall in defenseman scoring. He scored at a 14.29% clip.

Kelly Rivet, Portland Admirals :admirals:. Yes, I was going to go with Jack Durden at first, but I decided to go with Rivet, the shot blocking machine from Portland. Rivet’s rookie season of 5 goals and 26 assists placed him 7th in rookie scoring, but his 106 shot blocks were tops in the league, 9 ahead of SHL legend Alonzo Garbanzo, and at least 21 ahead of anyone else. Rivet should win Rookie of the Year.

Wingers:

Kristian Eriksson, Toronto North Stars Stars. Even though Toronto had quite the opposite season than just last year, Eriksson was still all over the scoresheet for the North Stars. He had 23 goals and 18 assists this year, but what was most impressive was that Eriksson racked up 212 Hits in 50 games this year. Even in a down year, he was still sacrificing his body for the team.

Damien Wert, Toronto North Stars, Stars. And as nice as Eriksson’s season was , Wert was the true star for Toronto this year. He racked up 51 points (25 goals, 26 assists), and he was a team-leading plus 16.

Center:

Geoffrey Allen, Texas Renegades Renegades. Captain America was all over the place for Texas, scoring 23 goals and 47 points, good enough for 15th in the league. He tried to will Texas into the playoffs, but it just didn’t work out for him.

Bonus: Nicholas Pedersen, Dragons (im doing it anyway. i dont care)

Task 4:

With the beginning of the Season 32 SHL Challenge Cup Finals near at hand, it's time to look at the player who will likely carry his team to victory. Though Hunter Wong has recorded a shutout in one of his previous series for the Dragons, it's young gun Jason Aittokallio who has really been a shining star for his team. The rookie goaltender for the Manhattan Rage has already made a big mark in this season's playoffs by getting the better of the defending back to back champs--the New England Wolfpack--in round two. With ten games under his belt heading into finals, Aittokallio sits at the top of the leaderboard with a .931 save percentage, has recorded more wins than any other starting goaltender in playoffs so far--followed by Wong--and has faced more shots. Though Wong has the better Goals Against Average, Aittokallio's poise and unwavering confidence have made him the goaltender to watch, and have made him what some would consider the MVP of this season's playoffs so far.

Does this scenario sound familiar? In a Portland uprising, fans and voters rally behind an insurgent outsider MVP candidate. The establishment panics and tries to quash the outsider’s campaign. But expansion voters are undeterred, rallying around their candidate by the tens of thousands and leading him to an upstart victory. Donald Trump? Nope.

I’m talking about a professional sim hockey player named Isaac Kaiser. For those who don’t follow Portland, Kaiser is the Admirals enforcer who was elected by fans in a grass-roots revolution as “official chirper” and best/MVP of the SHL. Kaiser’s not the kind of player you normally see at the league’s playoffs. He’s what known in the hockey world as a “sexy wordgoon”. In one SHL season, he had just four goals and two assists — not your typical MVP numbers. But fans love players like Kaiser for the grit and chirps he brings to the game. And the Admirals' management love players like Kaiser because he’s the guy on the ice who keeps them safe when other teams cross the line trying to stop them from scoring. Mess with superstar (lol) Geronimo Otto, and you get to meet Isaac Kaiser luscious lips— up close and personal.

I know what you’re thinking. ‘Wow this team is all Admirals and all awesome’ and that is because great minds think alike. This was a no brainer. Some may argue that… hey… Kyle Wahlgren didn’t play in the SHL this season. WELL he should have, because if he did and this ALL ROOKIE lineup hadn’t been robbed by the sim Portland easily would have won the cup. Let’s break this lineup down! Geronimo Otto wow what a guy what a player. Jacob Renniger YES PLEASE. Isaac Kaiser, please he should be on every future list regarless of what the list is about. Kelly Rivet he stops the shots, and he’s stopped my heart. But just for a moment I’m still alive, don’t worry. Colin Banning WHAT A SEXY BEAST. Kyle Wahlgren can top Timo Haas rookie numbers in his sleep. Anchors Away bitches!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TASK TWO: What has been the biggest game of the playoffs so far? Can be either SHL or SMHJL, 150 words.

The biggest game of the S32 playoffs was game 7 of the SMJHL Eastern Conference Finals between the Halifax Raiders and the Detroit Falcons. The Raiders enjoyed an incredible regular season, Halifax finished with the best record in the league and was a team that featured star players throughout the line-up. Reed Laing, Sepp Reiter, Georgette Pel, Toivo Kosonen, Matthew Leetch, Alexander Komarov, Alex Reed, and Kyle Kylrad should all go on and become well known players in the SHL. Even depth players such as Leif De Bruin, Niklas Flower and Greta Iversen could have been featured players on other teams. The Raiders also featured impressive rookies such as Lochlann O'Rourke, Zandar Ryhs, Zanarkand Abes and Vinny Marino.

Despite the impressive list of players that made up the Raiders roster, The Detroit Falcons outperformed the favorites and advanced to the Four Star Cup Finals. The Raiders had plenty of opportunities to put the Falcons but couldn't get the job done. The Falcons overcame a 3-1 series deficit and played there best when the games counted the most. Winner take all in game 7 and this time the Falcons would emerge victorious.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.

My pick for the MVP of the SHL Playoffs is Calgary Dragons goaltender Hunter Wong. Wongy has established himself as the backbone of the Calgary Dragons and this post-season was nothing out of the ordinary for him. Wong was phenomenal throughout the playoffs and led the Calgary Dragons to their second Challenge Cup in the past 4 (?) seasons. Hunter Wong is exactly what you look for in a franchise goaltender. He's been a member of the Calgary Dragons for his entire career and has become one of the top goaltenders in franchise history. Wong is solid in his crease, he never does anything that compromises his teams chances at winning and posses all of the skills that you would look for in an elite level goaltender. He has lightning fast reflexes, displaying a glove hand that is one of the very best in the entire league. He' also sound positionaly and doesn't give up many rebound opportunity's for opposing forwards to capitalize one. The Calgary Dragons definitely benefited from having Wong in net.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words. If graphic, must include renders and team logos (like in this example: http://web-vassets.ea.com/Assets/Richmedia...T-team1_WM.jpg)

Center: Liam Kinsler Renegades

Liam Kinsler is one of the top players in the history of the Texas Renegades, a team that has had numerous star players over the years. Kinsler is a dynamic offensive player who is always dangerous when he's on the ice. Kins should still have a number of good seasons left in him and has a legitimate chance at making the SHL Hall of Fame.

Left Wing: Geoffrey Allen Renegades

One of the up and coming superstars in the SHL, Geoffrey Allen is well on his way to becoming an MVP candidate. Allen is a dangerous offensive player who always needs to be accounted for when he's on the ice. Allen is an electric offensive player.

Right Wing: Kristian Eriksson Stars

One of the best power forwards in SHL history, I would put Kristian Eriksson on the right wing. Eriksson is a former league mvp (I think? :lolSmile so obviously he has what it takes to put up excellent offensive numbers. What sets Eriksson apart is his ability to be a physically dominating presence for the North Stars. Hard to believe that this guy was once a second round draft pick.

Defense: Vladimir Lidstrom Renegades

One of the most consistent blue-liners over the past few seasons, Vladdy is a smooth skating offensive defenseman who is very sound positionaly and makes one of the best first passes in the SHL. While he may not play all that physical, Lidstrom doesn't really need to, he has a very active stick and is a reliable defensive player.

Defense: Toki Wartooth Stars

I know, I know, Who the hell is this guy?? Toki Wartooth is a fucking legend, ok? Toki plays a sound defensive game and is a guy who will dive face first in front of a slapshot. Not only is Toki on my team, he's the captain. Dethklok seems to have limited his development but he's still shredding solos on a regular basis.

Goaltender: Mark Harter Stars

One of the top goaltenders in the league, Harter is another player who has been with the North Stars for his entire career. Harter is a perennial candidate for 1st team all-star selections at goaltender and is a player who could win the MVP award in the future.

TASK TWO: What has been the biggest game of the playoffs so far? Can be either SHL or SMHJL, 150 words.

166 words

Game 4 of the Challenge Cup finals was the biggest game in the whole playoffs. The 2-1 loss for the Manhattan Rage in overtime sealed their fate. After this crushing loss hope was nothing short of lost for Manhattan. Calgary is too solid a team for an underdog to go down 3-1 in the series and have any chance to crawl out of that hole. If the Rage could have managed to take that game in overtime then the momentum in the series would have tilted the ice into Manhattans favour and I think that they could have taken it all the way from there. In my opinion this was the game 7 of the series and whoever won this game would become the new league champions. Especially once the game went to over time. Manhattan may have been the underdog this season but if they can bring the fire and determination that they brought to these last playoffs, the league better watch out next year.

TASK THREE: Write a 150 word radio advert for the S32 Finals Matchup.

201 words

Tonight 660 Fred radio exclusively brings you game one of Challenge Cup finals between your Calgary Dragons and The Rage of Manhattan!

Puck drop is at 7pm local time but the pregame show hosted by none other than Calgarys own Roger Millions will start at 6:30. Millions will be joined by co-host Wayne Fretzki and this is one show you are not going to want to miss.

The Rages journey to the cup finals is one of an underdog story but that doesn't mean that Calgary can be overconfident and think they can breeze through this series in 4 games or else the hot Rage may make them pay dearly.

The Rage lead by red hot Vlad McZerhl have got some momentum heading into this game so Hunter Wong and the rest of the Dragons need to be on top of their game. If the Dragons can shut down and contain McZerhl early and take game 1 of the series they should be able set the tone for the series and play the game they want to play.

Be sure to tune in tonight at 6:30 to catch YOUR Calgary Dragons take on the Manhattan Rage, exclusively on 660 Fred radio.

TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.

151 words

The season 32 playoff MVP was none other than Calgary Dragons net minder Hunter Wong. His 12 wins in 16 game speak for themselves and his league leading save percentage and goals against average just add to how dominate Wong was in these playoffs. He held these amazing stats while facing the second most shots in the league as well.

Wong was a calm presence in net while facing a red hot Vlad McZerhl and this calmness wore off on the defenders in front of him. With a less experienced goaltender the outcome may have been very different. Wong made crucial saves at important parts of each game in the five game series and was one if not the most important player for either team this series. Wong was and is still Calgary's franchise goaltender and if anyone tries to minimize the impact he had on this series, they are wrong.

I'm sorry for the person who has to read/grade this. I know it's garbage.

TASK 1
[Image: 15ybr41.png]

TASK 2
The "biggest" game of the playoffs has to be the final game of the Challenge Cup final. I could pick New England's game 7 win against the Chiefs, that kept their dream of 3 Cups in 3 seasons alive, but in the end, they didn't reach their ultimate goal, so this game isn't as important as it should've been. On the other hand, game 5 of the Cup finals saw the Dragons win their third championship in 6 seasons. Manhattan's cinderella run came to an end during the same match. Other games were more "exciting" for some people, with a lot of scoring, like the first game of the finals between the Rage and the Dragons, where Calgary destroyed Manhattan by scoring seven, yes yes, seven goals, but the first match of a series is rarely considered the most "important". The one you need to win to lift the trophy has more importance.

TASK 3
Next up on West Kendall News Radio, the confrontation none of you asked for, where the MANHATTAN RAGE and the CALGARY DRAGONS battle for the ultimate prize. That's right, the WEST KENDALL PLATOON still did not qualify for the finals. But hey, at least the NEW ENGLAND WOLFPACK lost in the playoffs after going undefeated for too long so there's that to be happy about. Now you can either cheer for the MANHATTAN RAGE because they eliminated the NEW ENGLAND WOLFPACK or for the CALGARY DRAGONS because they did not eliminate the WEST KENDALL PLATOON and because their team name is the fucking DRAGONS. Witness live as I lose my job for saying fucking on the radio. Or how I'll get to keep my job because nobody else in WEST KENDALL is enough of a toolbag to try and make hockey sound interesting on the radio. You're right, it's 2017, watch this on TV. Hockey, on the radio, tonight, at 7PM. Thanks to our three listeners. Three Eagles out.

TASK TWO: What has been the biggest game of the playoffs so far? Can be either SHL or SMHJL, 150 words.

The SHL playoffs had a bit of a surprising cup match up between the Manhattan Rage and Calgary Dragons. They certainly were not one of the favorites, on either conference, to make the cup finals but that is exactly what we saw. The biggest game of the playoffs, SHL or SMJHL, was undoubtedly the deciding game of the SHL Cup. The Calgary Dragons would clinch the title with a 4-2 victory and cement themselves as the league's top team for season 32. It is no surprise that they handled the Rage with little trouble in the finals and the final game was a great example of that. Led by one of the greatest players in league history Esa Anrikkanen, the Dragons really had no trouble coasting through the final game. The veterans on this team would power the Dragons to the convincing 4-2 victory and the Dragons would once again hoist the cup over their shoulders as kings of the SHL.

Code:

TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.

The popular consensus for playoff MVP is Calgary Dragons goalie Hunter Wong. It is no secret that he was a massive part to the Dragons cup run holding a 12-2-2 record with a .926 save percentage and 2.02 goals allowed average. That is an impressive stat line in a league where offense reigns supreme. The Dragons are an incredibly talented and veteran heavy team and you could choose a couple players from them or even venture over to the Manhattan side and say that Vlad McZehrl deserves the MVP. While all of those are solid choices the only choice, really, has to be Wong. This is his third title in his illustrious career and he was arguably never better than he was in these finals. He shut down some of the top offensive teams in the league on his path to victory with series wins over the Los Angeles Panthers, Edmonton Blizzard, and finally the Manhattan Rage. The true anchor of the Dragons team, there was certainly nothing wong with Wong and he has to be your MVP selection.

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie. Can be written or graphic

LW - Damien Wert, Toronto

Damien Wert was one of the best overall players in season 32 for Toronto. He was an offensive juggernaut registering 25 goals, 26 assists, and 51 total points which was good for second overall at his position. Wert really proved that he is an elite offensive force in the league and he will lead Toronto back to the playoffs in the near future.

RW - Kristian Eriksson, Toronto

It is hard to imagine that Toronto had these two wingers in Wert and Kristian Eriksson and did not make the playoffs. Eriksson was a two-way force this season registering 23 goals, 18 assists, and 41 points which was good for ninth overall at the right wing position. Not only that but he was one of the league's top enforcers with 212 hits. It is always a rare treat to see a winger not only be gifted offensively but also lay down so many hits over the course of the season.

C - Geoffrey Allen, Texas

The Texas Renegades had a hard fall from grace this season but center Geoffrey Allen proved that he was one of the game's top centers. He went on to produce 23 goals, 24 assists, and 47 points for the Renegades. The only knock on Allen is his face off percentages as he failed to be in the top 10 but outside of that he had a fantastic season for the Renegades.

D - Friedrich Muller, Buffalo

The top offensive force at defense in the entire league did his best to try and lead Buffalo to their first playoff appearance. Despite them falling short on a tie breaker, Muller had one of the better overall seasons in the league. He put up 21 goals, 27 assists, and 48 points which was good for second at his position but his goal scoring was the league's top among defenders by far. It is difficult to find a defender who can score goals like a forward so Muller is an obvious choice.

D - Jack Durden, Texas

Another solid offensive player from the defender position, Jack Durden had one of the better defensive seasons this year. He registered 10 goals, 32 assists, and 42 points which was good for eight at his position. He also was one of the league's top shot blockers registering 82 shot blocks which was good for third.

G - Christoffer Bjornsson, Texas

I believe the number goalie statistic in terms of importance is goals against average and Bjornsson was the best out of the non-playoff goalies. He had a 2.40 GAA which was good for fifth overall in the league. He also finished third in wins with 26 and second in shutouts with 4. Bjornsson had a very underrated but fantastic season.

Task 1: As everyone knows Calgary has won this season's cup. Their 3rd in the last 6 seasons. Many people don't realize what their hidden strength is in order to win all these titles. You see the titles for the Dragons coincide with Esa Anrikannen's setting new world records in chicken parm eating. Each time they win a cup is when Esa has broken his own world record. This past season Esa set a new world record by eating 171/2 pounds of chicken parm in 30 minutes breaking his previous mark of 13 pounds by quite a bit. Esa is also a very generous guy so in a celebration of these momentous occasions Esa had an actual 5 pound piece of real chicken parm bronzed and made into a gigantic trophy. One lucky Dragons season ticket holder will be drawn at random and presented with the chicken parm S32 commemorative trophy at the first home game in Calgary in S33 when the Dragons receive their championship rings. This is a one of a kind piece of memorabilia since it's probably the only piece of chicken parm they could find that Esa hadn't already eaten. So congratulations to the lucky winner who's name will be announced at the start of the preseason. (210 words)

Task 2: the biggest game of the playoffs without a doubt had to be game 4 of the finals series between Manhattan and Calgary, After taking the first two games Calgary was looking to stop the momentum Manhattan had gained by taking game 3. A win in game 4 would put them up a seemingly insurmountable three games to one. And this game certainly didn't disappoint. After each team scoring a goal in the first period the game would go an agonizing 45 minutes or so of back and forth scoreless hockey. And then there was the call. A questionable roughing penalty by Franklin Trey after 4 minutes of overtime left Manhattan fuming on a highly debatable call. After fighting the penalty off with tired legs for well over a minute Pierre Luc Laflamme scored his 9th of the playoffs and what would prove to be the deciding goal of the series as Manhattan lost a heartbreaker to go down 3 games to 1. they would never recover and Calgary then went on to take the next game and hoist the cup. (180 words)

Task 4: Without question the playoff MVP this season would be veteran goaltender Hunter Wong. While many people would make the case for McZehrl, Wong turned on his game when his team needed him most. Wong had a terrible season by his standards. His 22-18-4 mark was among the leagues worst goalies. Some even said the only reason Calgary made the playoffs was the stellar play of Richard C Hocolate. the rookie backup netminder who went a sparkling 5-0-1 during the regular season. The pressure was on in Calgary for management to go with the unproven rookie and see if he could carry the team. But the battle scarred veteran never flinched and was ready to shake off his terrible season and lead his team to another cup like he had in the past. His teammates solidly behind him Wong seemed like a different goalie in the playoffs. Wong went an amazing 12-2-2 in the playoffs with an incredible save % of .920 and a sterling goals against average of 2.02. For this reason, his sheer dominance during the playoff run, Hunter Wong is the clear choice for playoff MVP. (187 words)

Task 5:
C. Geoffrey Allen (TEX) - S32 Stats: 23G 24A 47 Pts Allen was the top scorer for Texas this season, a team narrowly missing the playoffs. Allen has stepped up his game in the last couple seasons and is emerging as a top threat that the Renegades had in mind when they drafted him in the first round a few seasons ago.

LW: Damien Wert (TOR) - S32 Stats: 25G 26A 51 Pts Meh, don't like him personally but gotta give him his due.

RW: Kristian Eriksson (TOR) - S32 Stats: 23G 18A 41 Pts My lead Swede if you will. Eriksson is always near the top in scoring and can really put the puck in the net. Any team would be lucky to have a sniper of his talent on their squad.

D: Friedrich Müller (BUF) - S32 Stats: 21G 27A 48 Pts Great season in Buffalo, seems we have like half a dozen defenders that any given season leap over each other for top defender. This season Muller took a leap up.

D: Vladimir Lidstrom (TEX) - S32 Stats: 7G 38A 45 Pts Wooooooooooooooooo!! I'm so pretty! The jet flying wining dining limousine riding kiss the girls and leave em cryin stud that is the defender for the Renegades. 3 solid seasons in a row but it wasn't quite enough to get the Renegades over the hump into the playoffs. Gonna try and beat old man Gibby for the longevity title and man the blue line for Texas for another few seasons.

G: Christoffer Bjornsson (TEX) - S32 Stats: .910SV% 2.40 GAA Had a pretty good season for Texas, if not for a backup sim slip up it's likely that Bjornsson would have taken the Renegades deep into the playoffs. He's bounced around a bit but it's looking like he's found a home in Texas.

One of the most memerable games of the SMJHL playoffs may have been Game 5, Halifax versus Detroit. The Raiders were up 3-1 in the series, and had a chance to end it right there and head to the finals, where they would end up facing the Kelowna Knights. But the Falcons did not want their playoffs to end in a Game 5. In the first period, they took an early lead on the Falcons, going up 2-0. They ended the first period 2-1. Now, the second period. Falcons end the third period up 4-3. The Falcons needed to hold this lead to win the games, which they did. Infact, they added an extra 2 goals in the third and took the win, 6-4. This would trigger an ultamate comeback from the Falcons, they would go on the win Game 6 and game 7, which took them to the Four Star Cup Finals, where they were swept in 4 games. What would have happened if thr Raiders won game 5? Would they have won the four star cup? Who knows, but the Falcons were probably the easier competition for the Knights. They put up a good show, but unfortunaltley for them they were swept.

TASK FIVE:

At center we have Portland Admirals rookie GERONIMO OTTO! Otto put up a team leading 32 points in his first season as an SHL player, as a rookie in-fact. Geronimo Otto was also the 5th best rookie producer, which gives him a pot on this team!
On the right wing, we have Geoffrey Allen! Allen produced an astonishing 23 goals this season, and 24 assists, adding up to a 47 point season with the Renegades!
On the Left Wing, again from the Texas Renegades... Jack Durden! Durden was a fantastic playmaker this season, putting up a grand total of 32 assists this season. To add to that, he also scored 10 goals! This earns him a spot on the lineup
On defense, from the Hamilton Steelhawks... Ludwig Koch Schroder! Anopther rookie who had a phenomeneul year on the point. The young defenseman produced 27 points from the blue line, and had 69 shot blocks this season.
On the other side of the point is Vladimir Lidstrom of the Texas renegades! He produced 45, 45 points from the blue line! An astonishing number as a blue liner, thats nearly a point per game! And finnaly, in net, from the Texas Renegades... Christopher Bjornsson!

My MVP choice for these playoffs would be the rookie Jason Aittokalo. Aittokalo emerged out of the blue this season, his rookie season, and has been out standing for the Manhattan Rage this playoffs. Aittokalo was the one who was able to keep his team in the game in desperate situations, and played phenoumenal. The young rookie is 2nd in SV% this playoffs with an outstanding .921 %/ Aiitokalo has also faced the most shots this playoffs, facing a grand total of 430 shots so far! He's the one who's been showing up for the Rage, he's able to keep the Rage in the game and has been giving them hope all playoffs long. When the Rage get ahold of the cup, they can thank their young net minder for their cup win, as he was the one player who showed up for the Rage every game, and put up the best performance possible.

TASK ONE: Create a giveaway for a unique piece of playoff memorabilia. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words, if graphic, must include a picture of the item and the team logo.

TASK THREE: Write a 150 word radio advert for the S32 Finals Matchup.

You're listening to AM 570, your home for Los Angeles Sports. And home to your Los Angeles Panthers.

Panthers faithful. We know you're depressed about not getting to see your favorite players skate in the S32 Challenge Cup Finals. TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.

My choice for the S32 Playoff MVP is VLAD McZehrl. While his team did fall short of eternal glory and the first chance at a cup win in a long stretch of time for the Manhattan Rage. He simply put on a show in the playoffs. Carrying his team to the finals and giving them a chance to put their names in the record books. Scoring 22 points in 15 games. VLAD scored at a near point and a half pace for the entirty of the playoffs and scored 4 more points than the next closest player in the playoffs. Which happened to be his teammate Wyatt Wollker. VLAD McZehrl is loudly etching his name into the SHL record books with his fantastic production during the season and playoffs. All while being the anchor of the Manhattan Rage. He could possibly end his career as one of the best players in the history of the SHL.

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie.

Center: Geoffrey Allen - Renegades - The leading scorer for the renegades brings a purely finesse game to the SHL. He's the kind of player you see on highlight reels making the beautiful pass or the sexy snipe. But his lack of physicality might cost his team in close games.

Left Wing: Damien Wert - Stars - One of the surprises of the season. Wert absolutely exploded onto the SHL with a season seeing him put in 51 points in S32. Becoming an absolute beast for the Toronto North Stars. Their scoring is set for quite awhile.

Right Wing: Maximilian Wachter - Stampede - A winger leading their team in hitting is quite an anomaly in any hockey league. Wachter is the definition of a power forward. Scoring 31 points and dishing out nearly 200 hits in S32. Wachter is a pain for other teams to deal with.

Defense: Big Manious - Jets - Manious brings a hard hitting style with the finesse to chip in enough points to make him a solid two way defender in the SHL. Manious is the kind of player that any blueline would benefit from having.

Defense: Friedrich Müller - Stampede - The second highest scoring defender in the SHL in S32. He took his retirement year as a serious thing. His swan song was pure beauty and it was a shame that he didn't get one last chance at the playoffs.

Goalie: Christoffer Bjornsson - Renegades - Playing his first season in Texas in S32, Bjornsson had an outstanding record and a very solid statline despite his team missing the playoffs. Bjornsson deserves to be starting on this list.

TASK TWO: What has been the biggest game of the playoffs so far? Can be either SHL or SMHJL, 150 words.
I think the biggest game of the playoffs so far has been game six of the Western Conference Finals, between the Calgary Dragons and the Edmonton Blizzard. The Dragons were leading the series 3-2 heading into this game. Game 6 was being played in Calgary so it was crucial for the Dragons to close out game 6, avoiding a game 7 being played in Edmonton. Calgary were able to get an early 2 goal lead. and Edmonton struggled to fight back into the game. Calgary ended up winning the game 4-1, and the series 4-2. The two players that really stood out to me were Randy Randleman and Hunter Wong. Randleman was able to put up a goal and played 23:16 of solid hockey. Wong was able to stop 21 of 22 shots as he stifled the Blizzards attack. The Calgary Dragons are now on to the finals to face off against the Manhattan Rage.

TASK THREE: Write a 150 word radio advert for the S32 Finals Matchup.
Oh boy do we have a great matchup in the S32 SHL Finals. We have the Eastern Conference champs, the Manhattan Rage! The Rage have had a dominating performance on their way to the finals. Dropping only 2 games in the process! This included sweeping the back to back champs, the New England Wolfpack! And from the Western Conference we have the big underdogs, The Calgary Dragons! The Dragons barely even qualified for the S32 playoffs, making it in by having the tie breaker over the Renegades. No one believed the Dragons would make it all the way to the finals. They dominated the top team of the regular season, the Panthers, in round one. And then finished off the Blizzard to make it to the finals. Make sure to tune in tonight when the puck drops in Manhattan, at 7pm est. The Rage vs the Dragons, it is going to be a beauty.

TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.
My choice for MVP this season would easily be VLAD McZehrl of the Manhattan Rage. McZehrl put up some monster numbers in the regular season. In 50 games, he scored 31 goals and 39 assists for a total of 70 points. He led the entire in league in points. McZehrl also led his team in time on ice. Averaging a total of 27.86 minutes per game. His play carried the Rage to the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

McZehrl carried his strong play into the playoffs. He has put up 19 points in 11 games. McZ has been averaging 32:20 minutes per game in the playoffs. Leading the Rage into the finals against the Calgary Dragons. If he keeps up this level of play, the Rage will have a great chance at bringing home the Challenge Cup.

McZehrl amazing play both in the regular season and in the playoffs, easily makes him my MVP choice.

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words.

Center: Geoffrey Allen Renegades
Allen would easily be my top center. Allen came up just short leading his team into the playoffs, missing out by only point. He had a great season with 23 goals and 47 points.

Winger: Luke Fleming Jets
Fleming had a great season for the Jets. He led the Jets in goals with 21 of them, 6 more than anyone else. Fleming his a star and would be one of my wingers.

Winger: Eduard Selich Stampede
I would pick Selich to be my other winger. This guy is just a rookie but he has already put up some big numbers in the SHL. Finishing his campaign with 17 goals and 19 assists. Selich is only going to get better.

Defence: Ludwig Koch Schröder Steelhawks
Ludwig Koch Schröder is an up an coming star on the Steelhawks. He averaged 24 minutes a game and put up 27 points in his rookie season with Steelhawks.

Defence: Vladimir Lidstrom Renegades
Lidstrom was a monster for the Renegades. He average almost 28 minutes a game, the most on his team. He also put up 45 points, 5th most by any dman this season.

Goalie: Christoffer Bjornsson Renegades
Bjornsson is an absolute beauty. He had the 3rd most wins in the SHL, 2nd most shutouts. He had a great year.

TASK ONE: Create a giveaway for a unique piece of playoff memorabilia. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words.

It's Joe Kurczewski's championship ring! That's right, you too can own a replica of the Dragons winger's ring he will actually receive! One minute played is still championship action! This could become a collector's item down the road, if Joey K pans out. The ring is made in China with stainless steel, cubic zirconium, with Joe's name etched around the edges. There's also a tiny little "1" right next to Kurczewski to memorialize the intense action he saw!

One lucky winner will receive this prize at the Dragons home opener* next season! TASK FOUR: Who is your choice for MVP? Must be 150 words.

Regular Season MVP: Brett Broadway, G, Blizzard is probably the right call for Regular Season MVP. The Edmonton netminder's stats speak for themselves: 0.926 SV% (1st), 2.02 GAA (1st), 29 wins (2nd), 8 shutouts (1st). Broadway helped his team to a playoff spot (3rd in the West, 5th Overall). While his season tailed off in the playoffs, sustained success by a goalie at this level across a season of games is tough, and when a goalie does achieve like this, they deserve to be rewarded.

Playoff MVP: Pierre-Luc Laflamme, F, Dragons is my call for playoff MVP, though it was very close between him and Alex Mack. Laflamme tied with his teammate Esa and Manhattan's McZehrl for nine goals to lead the playoffs. Laflamme also had eight assists, totaling 17 points to finish 2nd on his team in playoff scoring. Five of Laflamme's goals were game winning goals, and that clutch factor nudges him above Mack for me, as well as the fact that Laflamme had 55 hits in 16 games.

TASK FIVE: Create an All Star starting lineup of players that did not make the playoffs. Must include a center, two wings, two defence and a goalie. Can be written or graphic. If written, must be 150 words.

Center: Luke Fleming, Jets

Nereus is my boy and you bet your ass I want him on the "didn't make the playoffs" all-star team. He played both center and wing this season, but I'm putting him at center because that's what the leaderboard in the index categorizes him as. Also, he put up some solid numbers as per usual. 21 goals, 23 assists for 44 points. He also brought the jam all season long, racking up 135 bone-crushing hits. DJ Flemmy Flem in the building, y'all.

Wing: Damien Wert, Stars

Hard to leave off a dude who was just over a point per game on the 2nd-worst team in the league. Wert had 25 goals and 26 assists for 51 points. He doesn't bring the jam, but the scoring ability is elite. Also, carrying a +16 is impressive given only four members of the team were positive in that category.

Wing: Kristian Eriksson, Stars

How on earth did Toronto get 2nd-to-last? Eriksson posted up a solid 41 points off 23 goals and 18 assists. Holy damn, did he bring the jam. 212 hits is elite jam-bringing. While his +/- was lacking, he put up a solid season and I'd be thrilled to roll a Fleming-Wert-Eriksson line. So many shots and hits.

Defense: Friedrich Muller, Stampede

Ugh, even though it's a Buffalo player I guess I can't get around it. Muller put up fantastic numbers offensively, and was +14 on a team that was generally negative in that category. 21 goals, 27 assists, for 48 points. Finished one shy of Chris Crutchfield for the lead among defensemen.

Defense: Kelly Rivet, :admirals:

Gotta give a shout-out to Snuffalupagus here. In his rookie year, he weathered the storm playing tough minutes and actually led the league in shots blocked, while putting up a very strong 31 points off 5 goals and 26 assists- those are great numbers for a defensive defenseman under 800 TPE. A bright spot in a growing year.

Goalie: Christoffer Bjornsson, Renegades

The Renegades just missed the playoffs, and it wasn't due to lack of talent up and down the roster. Bjornsson performed admirably all season, putting up a .910 SV% and allowing 2.40 goals on average. That edges him above the only other real choice at this spot, Buffalo's Casey Holmes- I can't bring myself to put two Buffalo players in this anyway.

T5: The I Didn't Make the Playoffs All Star Squad (using player page):

Center: Sven Karlsson Stars

The disgruntled centerman that was traded from the playoff bound LA Panthers to the Toronto North Stars earns his spot as the top centerman that did not make the playoffs. With the Panthers Karlsson put up 28 points and 11 goals which made him a good player for the Panthers. But as soon as he put on that blue and white he got to work putting up almost a point per game with 5 goals and 12 points in 15 games.

Left Wing: Damien Wert Stars

Mr. Wert who didn't get much opportunity to shine in West Kendall was dealt to the North Stars and made quite the contribution to their roster putting up a team high 51 points. Toronto looks good for the veteran winger then again being bumped to the top line and getting more minutes helps everyone.

Right Wing: Geoffrey Allen Renegades

Mr. Allen, what's not to say about the bastard who put up 47 points for a Renegades team high which helped them just lose out to the Riot by tie breakers. What a shame for Allen who put up a valiant effort to do his part to get the Renegades to the post season as its been a while since they've won a Challenge Cup.

Defence: Friedrich Müller Stampede
The lone Stampede rep did everything he could to help the Stampede fight for a shot at the Challenge Cup in his retirement year. A team high in goals, minutes played and points. If it wasn't for Müller the Stampede would have been off to another year of disappointing hockey.

Defence: Vladimir Lidstrom Renegades
Vliddy.... wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... enough said

Goalie: Christoffer Bjornsson Renegades

Mr. Bjornsson was the best of the worst and came so close with Texas to the playoffs. He played well but unfortunately not well enough to get the Renegades into the playoffs
