PT 3 - Fellow Prospects
#1

Starting your career in the SMJHL comes with a whole host of responsibilities--not only do you have to prove your worth on the ice, but there are media interviews and bonding activities with fellow prospects.

Task

Team up with a fellow S35 SMJHL draftee and ask each other at least three questions each. Questions can be about whatever you like. You get full credit if you both ask and answer three questions, so make sure you clearly mark what you did. (click here for examples of how people did so in a previous season's similar task)

Reward

3 TPE for doing the thing.

Only S35 SMJHL Rookies (S36 SHL Rookies) are eligible for this PT.

Do NOT claim TPE for this task until a post has been made in the claim thread.

Deadline

Thursday, June 15, 11:59 PM EST

This was completed by myself and <a href='index.php?showuser=2686' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Primeapple</a>

Starring <a href='index.php?showuser=2686' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Primeapple</a> as Chuck Bernstein, CB
and <a href='index.php?showuser=2643' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>DannyMethane</a> as Lukas Müller, LM

CB: Lukas, where do you see yourself going in this draft? Any idea on what team or round?

LM: I've seen some pretty heavy interest from two teams in particular. I'm thinking that either STL or HAL will pick me up in any of the first 3 rounds.

CB: How are you expecting your first season to go? Do you think you'll be top line or riding the bench waiting for the blowouts?

LM: It all really depends on where I end up. Speaking with the GM's I've seen my expectations go from maybe bottom pairing to top paring, depending on activity. I'd like to be playing second line minutes. There's guys who've been in the juniors a while, and I know I won't be taking ice time off of them.

CB: Any good luck rituals you're planning for before the draft tonight?

LM: Nope. My parents are in town, so we're going to go see the sights of St. Louis before the draft. Maybe I'll eat my lucky meal, pretzels and queso?

Now we switch!

LM: Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?

CB: 100 duck sized horses. Horses I can understand their behavior. Ducks are unpredictible and angry fowl beasts.

LM: Is a hotdog a sandwich?

CB: Is the bread connected at one end? Then no. Did the hotdog bun break when you inserted the meat cylinder? Then you've got meat between two pieces of bread and that's a sandwich

LM: Let’s say you have an ax. Just a cheap one, from Home Depot. On one bitter winter day, you use said ax to behead a man. Don’t worry, the man was already dead. Or maybe you should worry, because you’re the one who shot him.

He had been a big, twitchy guy with veiny skin stretched over swollen biceps, a tattoo of a swastika on his tongue. Teeth filed into razor-sharp fangs, you know the type. And you’re chopping off his head because, even with eight bullet holes in him, you’re pretty sure he’s about to spring back to his feet and eat the look of terror right off your face. On the follow-through of the last swing, though, the handle of the ax snaps in a spray of splinters.

You now have a broken ax. So, after a long night of looking for a place to dump the man and his head, you take a trip into town with your ax. You go to the hardware store, explaining away the dark reddish stains on the broken handle as barbecue sauce. You walk out with a brand new handle for your ax.
The repaired ax sits undisturbed in your garage until the next spring when, on one rainy morning, you find in your kitchen a creature that appears to be a foot-long slug with a bulging egg sac on its tail. Its jaws bite one of your forks in half with what seems like very little effort. You grab your trusty ax and chop the thing into several pieces. On the last blow, however, the ax strikes a metal leg of the overturned kitchen table and chips out a notch right in the middle of the blade.

Of course, a chipped head means yet another trip to the hardware store. They sell you a brand new head for your ax. As soon as you get home with your newly-headed ax, though, you meet the reanimated body of the guy you beheaded last year. He’s also got a new head, stitched on with what looks like plastic weed trimmer line, and it’s wearing that unique expression of “you’re the man who killed me last winter” resentment that one so rarely encounters in everyday life.

You brandish your ax. The guy takes a long look at the weapon with his squishy, rotting eyes and in a gargly voice he screams, “That’s the same ax that slayed me!”
Is he right? (Question from author David Wong, book John Dies At The End)

CB: Holy shit. Alright give me a minute...

**Four minutes later**

CB: It's the same ax only in the way the man is living the same life. He has a new head, my axe has a new head. He's now a zombie, and so is my axe.

That's all from Chuck Bernstein and Lukas Müller! Thanks for reading!

Questions by <a href='index.php?showuser=1159' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-56'>prettyburn</a>, answers by <a href='index.php?showuser=2638' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>TheDangaZone</a> - Roman Augustus

1. Is there anyone in your draft class you're specifically worried about playing against this season?
I'm not specifically worried about playing against any of my fellow rookies but look forward to some fun competetive games on the ice.

2. What's your biggest hope and biggest fear for the upcoming season?
My biggest hope for the upcoming season is obviously to light up the stat sheet and help my team win however possible. My biggest fear is to not perform for my team letting my teammates and friends down.

3. Are you bringing a date to the draft tonight?
I'm going solo tonight. Unfortunately my girlfriend has to work and couldn't get off for the occasion as much as she tried. She'll be with me in my heart and I'll have the support of all my fellow rookies to help me through it.

Questions by <a href='index.php?showuser=2638' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>TheDangaZone</a>, answers by <a href='index.php?showuser=1159' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-56'>prettyburn</a> - Isak Ødegård

1. How would you rate yourself among your fellow draft prospects?
I like to think I'm a good prospect! I know I'm not one of the biggest guys out there on the ice so I can be overlooked at time, but I know the team that drafts me will be happy with the skill I bring to every game. It still seems like a dream that I could go really high, but I've had enough interest from teams that I'm starting to believe it could happen. This draft is full of such strong prospects, though, I think there will be a bunch of superstars coming out of this class.

2. What kind of goals do you have set for your upcoming season?
Obviously I'd love to score a ton of goals and win the 4 Star Cup, but I also want to see what team I end up on and what they need from me before I set specific goals. If they need me to step up more and be a leader I'll do my best, or if they need me to hang back and work on my defensive game then I can do that as well.

3. Who are you most looking forward to playing with or against next season?
There are so many great guys and girls in the league right now, I'm just really looking forward to seeing who my teammates will be and getting to bond with them more! As for playing against, I've seen Dwayne Wyder basically kill a guy already, so I'm hoping we end up on the same side and I never have to face him on the ice.

Question asked by <a href='index.php?showuser=2646' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>therealsleepysheep</a>

Oliver König: So, I know you were not able to participate in the prospect showcase because of an injury, how does that make you feel and will you be ready to participate in training camp?
Cody Fletcher: Being injured right before a showcase tournament is not a situation i would wish to my worst enemy. It's actually really frustrating as everything you wish is to be on the ice with your fellow rookies. However, doctor's order were to stay off the ice in order to heal up in time for the training camp, so I should be good to go!

Oliver König: That’s wonderful, I'm glad you will be ready for camp! So because you were not able to play in the showcase, can you speak about your playing style for a moment? What you like to do and where you like to be on the ice?
Cody Fletcher: I am currently playing on the Left Wing with a Sniper mentality. I love to shoot on the goal and hear my name in the rink's speaker. However, I still have a solid puck handling skill and passing so I am not a puck hugger. I am also pretty good defensively. I love to be where i am needed on the ice, I don’t have any specific need for that.

Oliver König: I think the GMs will like that mentality a scorer who knows when to pass and how to defend, sounds like you have a complete game. What are your future aspirations in the SHL?
Cody Fletcher: I wish to be part of a team i can call family in the future with a few perks, i would really like to develop my leadership with the team it’ll be with while keeping a high competitive standard.

1) Oliver, what are your hobies outside of hockey?

Cooking, reading, and photography!

2) If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

Hmm, good question. I think I would wish to visit Iceland.

3) Where do you see yourself in 10 seasons ? what role do you hope to have in any teams?

10 Season? I think I would like to think I've had a very successful career at that point. I'd like to think that teams will use me to run their powerplay. I think thats where I'll really be able to help my team out offensively.

Interview 1) With the prospect tournament recently wrapping up, how do you feel about your performance?
I wasn't really impressed with my performance. I know I can do better. I have to question the logic of the coaching staff, as I feel I wasn't given a fair shake at succeeding with the minutes that I got.

Interview 2) What are you doing to get ready for the draft and get team interested in drafting you?
I have been rather active in having my agent communicate directly with the General Managers. We've have a lot of great two-way communication.

Interview 3) If you could meet any fictional character, who would you meet?
I'd love to meet Jon Snow, the King of the North!

Today we sit down with SMJHL hopeful Lukas Müller for a feature we call 4 in 40... Four questions answered in 40 seconds. Here we go

<center>[Image: 2n9l344.jpg]
If you could sit down for dinner with any three people in time... who would they be and why?</center>

If I could sit down with any three people in time, I'd have to say I'd sit down with musician Jim Croce, Television personality Mr. Rogers, and myself from 40 years in the future. I feel like those 3 people could give me the advice I need to make myself the best version of myself.

<center>[Image: 2n9l344.jpg]
Do you have any ties to one particular franchise in tonight's draft? If so, explain.</center>

I don't have any ties to any of the franchises in the draft. The closest it would come is when my prospect showcase D-partner, Luisa Koller played for Montreal on a free agent contract last season.

<center>[Image: 2n9l344.jpg]</center>
Will you be disappointed if you're not drafted in the first round?

I think everyone out there who does their best and shows the scouts they're talented would be lying if they said they wouldn't be disappointed. We work so hard for years to get here, and we're all used to be the top in our leagues. Of course I'll be disappointed, but at the same time, I'll be glad I get to play at all!

<center>[Image: 2n9l344.jpg]</center>
And lastly, do you feel you've done enough to be considered a first round pick?

There are so many great picks out here tonight. There's only 8 spots in the first round. I definitely think I'm top 10 material, I just hope the GMs feel the same way.

<center>[Image: 2n9l344.jpg]
Thanks for your time</center>

My pleasure

<hr>

Return questioning, between Müller and Dean Youngblood...

1) If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

the ability to turn back time. There are things in life that would benefit going back in time and doing differently

2) Assume hockey didn't exist. What would you be doing right now?

some kinda sport. Was a pretty good ball player in my day. Mighta done something with it if i didn't tear my rotator

3) What are you most excited to bring to your new locker room after tonight's draft?

looking forward to being part of a team. camaraderie goes a long way. it can turn an otherwise unsuccessful franchise into a contender pretty quick. As for me personally, i hope to be able to showcase my scoring touch i've had since i laced up my first pair of skates

4) With the draft just a few hours way, what's your current heart rate?

*puts index and middle finger to neck*

100 beats per minute. I don't get nervous in times like these... I'm prepared for whatever comes of tonight

Asked by <a href='index.php?showuser=177' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Ace</a>, answered by myself:

1) What is your preferred landing spot in today's draft?
I spoke to a lot of GMs but Halifax stood out to me the most by far, I would love to end up there! Seems like a great rebuilding team and I would love to help them build that team up from the ground up

2) Who do you model your game after and who inspired you to start playing hockey?
I would say I try to play a kind of all around game, but a big focus on scoring, I guess I'd compare myself to like a pre-injury history Stamkos. I was inspired to start playing hockey by my friends in grade school, they were my biggest influence when I was a bit less outgoing as a kid

3) What's the best meal of the day?
Dinner, breakfast is great but highly overrated

Asked @xX_T-Nasty_Xx

1) If your player could bring one additional item onto the ice to improve his play this season, what would he bring?
2) Who do you think would win in a hockey game: sharks with laser beams on their foreheads or giants with rocket powered skates?
3) If you could place a franchise anywhere in the SHL, where would it be and what would it be called?

Answered @xX_T-Nasty_Xx

1. If you could go to anytime in History when would it be?

I would go to the August 3, 1983 Prince show at First Avenue. This is where Prince debuted many songs off of the upcoming Purple Rain album, including Purple Rain itself. It's a crazy kind of atmosphere; with no one knowing the songs, and it provides an environment where you can take in everything Prince was known for.

2. Who would be sitting across from you on your celebrity date?

Easy, Chris Jericho. While I don't wanna fuck him, I think that the way he approaches life is something that everyone can learn from. I don't know many people who had dreams as large as "I want to be a wrestler" and "I want to front a rock band" and do both as successfully as Jericho. But if Alexa Bliss comes along, I wouldn't object.

3. How much wood could a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

A woodchuck would chuck as much would as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck would, which is 3; take it or leave it.

____________________________________________________________

Asked <a href='index.php?showuser=1379' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-62'>easymoneysniper</a>:

1) Who do you consider to be your biggest rival in the SMJHL this season?

2) Who would win in a fight: a Whale, a Firebird, or a Mammoth?

3) If your skater played any other sport, what would it be?

Answered:

1) How do you this first season is going to pan out for you?

I think that I'm going to lead defenseman in goals. I am fully aware that this is the juniors league for the most competitive league in the world. I'm highly confident in my abilities on the ice; my ability to push the play and catch opposing defensemen and centers off guard. In Vancouver, we have a strong enough defensive corps and an outstanding goalie for me to be able to play my game; to join on the rush and give opposing players one more thing to worry about. I'm guaranteeing a 4 Star Finals appearance for my Vancouver Whalers, and I think we have a real chance to win it all.

2) What are your expectations?

My expectations are going to be going in the first round of the SHL draft. I was disappointed that I fell to 13, especially with the pedigree of my mentor, Niklas Wikstrom. I feel that the new generation of players don't respect the path that was blazed by players like Erik Chisling, Carter O'Callahan, and Niklas Wikstrom. Players who all brought the first ever cups to their franchises. Players who defined what it means to succeed at the SHL level. When everyone is trying to be a sniper, diverse builds provide the foundation for teams to go far. I believe I am that kind of player, and I expect to be rewarded for my efforts.

3) Do you think you're the best player of this draft?

I think I am one of the best players ever to lace up. However, I know how deep this draft truly goes. My teammate, Isak Odegard, deserved to go first overall. His ability on the ice is unprecedented, and through my talks with his mentor, Nathan Russell, I can see that Odegard holds many of the same traits that Russell did during the original New England Cup Run, and through the dynasty that arose around Season 30. I am also looking forward to what Tigole Bitties can do on the ice. That type of center doesn't come around very often, and I think he has a real opportunity to make it to the hall of fame. Do I think I'm one of the best players ever? Yes. Do I think I am the best player in this draft right now? We'll see.

BM: Gotta go with the giants, I feel like the sharks would be useless just flaling on the ice until they suffocated.

Me and <a href='index.php?showuser=2626' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>Victory</a>

Two European recruits -- Mathias Victorsson and Karl Hefeweizen -- comprised the Detroit Falcons' two first picks in the S35 SMJHL draft. These two up and comers are already hitting it off in practice, and we were able to get a makeshift interview between the two of them:

Karl Hefeweizen to Mathias Victorsson:
1 -- Who are you super relieved to have not draft you and why?
I am super relieved Vancouver didn't draft me because I hate the city and the fans. Also I did take some offense to being called a mid round pick winger although they seemed to be right in retrospect. Anyways, can't wait to beat those ugly Whalers.

2 -- Who would you consider the closest thing to a rival for you in this draft class?
Nour Harrak, not for any personal reasons just due to the fact that he is a winger selected above me in the draft. He is an overall great guy though.

3 -- If you had to describe (in family friendly terms) the Detroit locker room to your mother, how would you do it?
I love it, it's a great mix of guys with different personalities and playing styles all coming together for one goal; and that's to repeat as SMJHL champions.

<center>=======================</center>

Mathias Victorsson to Karl Hefeweizen:
1 -- Are you happy with your draft position and with where you landed? Why or why not?
I'm thrilled! I didn't expect to go in the first round given the pedigree and track record of some of the other players in the draft. It's great to land on a champ, and the Detroit guys so far are A+.

2 -- How far do you believe the Falcons can go this season? Why?
Obviously it hurts losing Jakub Trochek to the call up, but the Falcons still have a great roster. It remains to be seen how many guys can actually achieve their projected potential, but the buzz in the locker room is a promising sign.

3 -- How is the locker room looking for you? Do you enjoy the different personalities and do you believe you fit in?
It's great -- I always worry about people feeling the need to be the loudest voice in the room, but we don't have that. Lots of helpful people from all walks of life, and they embrace my shenanigans. What more can you ask for?

Asked by me and answered by Anti-Hype

CB: Who do you model your game after?

That's gotta be Rod Langway. Don't get me wrong I want to be able to contribute on both sides of the ice but I'm a defenseman and for me that's top priority. Langway played the game with such aggression and he wasn't the quickest but he didn't let anything slow him down. I really look up to him

CB: Favorite game day meal?

A nice big cheese burger with bacon and lettuce, but the lettuce has to be under the burger itself. Not a superstition or anything. Just makes it less messy.

CB:What happens in a fight between chuck norris and a cloned chuck norris?

I actually have strong feelings on this. I personally don't think we have the technology to make a perfect clone of something. There are going to be mutations between clones and the original and I think when it comes to chuck norris. I doubt those mutations will be beneficial to the clone norris. Thus he would be inferior to the original, and lose. This is a big reason why I am against the cloning of Harambe.

Asked by Anti-Hype and answered by me.

AH: How do you feel about going to Colorado? Both the team, and location?

A Colorado kid being drafted by his home team, I was as giddy as a school girl when I heard that the Mammoth drafted me. There is just no better feeling than being drafted by the team grew up watching. The team itself doesn't look too bad either. I heard that they are putting us on the same pairing line and that there are whispers around the league that they are calling us the super sexy saucy line...? How about that?

AH:Do you plan on moving on to the SHL as quickly as possible or are you thinking of hanging down in the SMJHL for the full experience?

Right now I'm not even thinking about the SHL. I want learn as much as I can from the veterans and develop as much as I can before I even start thinking of the SHL. Once I establish myself as one of the better two way defenders in the SMJHL, will I then think about jumping leagues. If it takes me 5 seasons in the SMJHL to develop into that player, so be it.

AH:Does pineapple belong on pizza?

Tropical fruit on pizza is an abomination. An insult to the savoury goodness that pizza is and it's a disgrace to ones family if you order it... That's what my dad told me before he brought out the belt. flinches

Questions from Danny, answered by me.
Quote:1. You were the 5th overall pick! Congratulations, first off. How does it feel? Were you expecting it?

2. How's it feel to be back in the locker room again?

3. Did the GM tell you they were taking you with the 5th pick? How did you find out about it?

4. What are you looking forward to the most this season?

1. It feels great, obviously. Going first round is anyone's dream. I wasn't trying to anticipate anything, so no, really.

2. All the guys in there are great, and Kirkstone is one of the best GMs around.

3. No he didn't, actually. I did find out later that they were shopping around for another 1st round pick for my better half on the ice, Lukas Muller, and that unfortunately didn't work out. So I think that's why they were being a little cryptic.

4. I dunno, more points? In all honesty though, I'm just looking forward to becoming the best player I can possibly be and staying at the top of this draft class.

Now, questions from me, answered by Danny:

Quote:1. On a scale of Febreeze to Sewage truck, how bad does Singh (<a href='index.php?showuser=2267' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-52'>Waters</a>) smell?

2. What's your favourite pun?

3. Any opinions on the Raider 'stache?

4. If you were suddenly in the zombie apocalypse, which two draftees would you try to group together with and what piece of hockey would you wield?

1. Three day old curry.

2. I entered 10 puns into a pun contest, hoping that one would win, but no pun in ten did.

3. It's the most glorious mustache this side of Tom Selleck (spelling?)

4. Oh, easily Chuck Bernstein and Dwane Wyder. I'd be using a pair of skates like nun chucks.
