On the ice Roman Augustus is a towering two way defenseman with a nack for getting points but off the ice Roman likes to spend his time doing more scholarly things. While many players would rather be relaxing or at least studying game tape Roman spends his time studying history. History just so happens to be Roman's greatest passion, outside of hockey of course, and if Roman isn't on the ice scoring goals he has a history book in his face learning as much as he can. Roman's favorite history just so happens to be American history, a fitting subject for one of the United States highest rated up and coming prospects. While any American history is fine by Roman he especially loves war history involving the United States. Roman has taken many classes on World War 1 and World War 2 as well as the American Civil War and while he would never consider himself a top student in these classes his enthusiasm for the course can not be matched. This enthusiasm also carries over to his hockey love as theres nothing he would rather be doing in the world. So while Roman might not always be getting A's on his grade sheet he will be putting up A's on the stat sheet for the St. Louis Scarecrows this season.

Dominik Tretiak has grown up under intense pressure, being the lead goalie on a number of teams throughout his younger life, all of which found themselves in the spotlight and in big games. Tretiak was the last line of defense in all of those games, the goalie. However, while you might think this pressure would create a tense and tightly strung individual, the opposite is actually true - Tretiak is one of the most laid back players off the ice. He goes about his business and mostly keeps to himself, unless otherwise needed. Tretiak spends his time playing video games, although he stays away from the hockey games now that he is closing in on the professional leagues. He has competed professionally in some games, such as the Halo series and Call of Duty. Tretiak has great hand eye coordination, as well as agile finger and hand speed - so it benefits him in the games. If he's not playing games, he likes to watch movies and TV shows. He's up to date on almost all of the major shows available and can talk with you for hours about pretty much any of them. While Dominik won't go out of his way to meet or interact with people, he does get along well with almost everybody and is very approachable. Tretiak's laid back personality means he stays out of the limelight for negative reasons and is a good person to have in your locker room, as you know he won't be out causing trouble.
On any given day if you ask Dakota Reid what her favorite hobby is, she’d probably smile and sarcastically say “applied physics†in reference to her massive hits on the ice. But if you catch her on a good day, you may very well be shocked that her favorite thing in the world is horse-riding. Though it seems like quite a departure from her “tough girl†exterior, it makes sense when you learn that she grew up just down the street to a horse sanctuary. “Yeah, practically every day I was with the horses, hanging out with them, feeding them,†says Dakota, the hard hitting power forward for the Montreal Militia, “I wasn’t able to become an official volunteer because of weird travel reasons, but the people there would treat me like one and always let me help out.†According to her father, she hopes to get enough money out of hockey to afford to buy her own horse ranch somewhere either in the Midlands or Wisconsin, “She has a real affinity for horses. I don’t quite know how it relates to her other activities, but it’s nice that she has something here that she’s able to come back to.â€
The season is in full swing for the St. Louis Scarecrows rookie centerman. He’s starting to get his feet wet in the increased competitive nature of the season, but there’s always a story to tell about the player when the skates and pads are off.
Tigole just moved to Ladue, one of St. Louis’ most prestigious and elite communities. After growing up in a dairy farm, it’s quite the difference going from that environment to a state of the art 3 bedroom condo. Tigole is the only resident, but there are many temporary residents that spend decent chunks of time in the Bitties abode. Tigole hosts Dungeons and Dragons nights, and the local comic book store sends droves of angsty geek teenagers. Tigole always acts as a DM, and some even say he’s thinking of his next campaign on his last shift of the game.
In addition to managing the next quest’s objectives, Tigole has a small gym in his home. It’s got the essentials – a bike for cardio, a bench for strength and various free weights. Strength and conditioning is very important to him, and it’s the only way he’ll be able to take the next step and contribute in the SHL.
It’s not a lot, and he’s not tremendously interesting, but you now know a bit more about Tigole Bitties off the ice.
On the ice, Vijanupatan Singh is an unselfish player with a shot that could scare any smjhl goalie, but off the ice, Singh often prefers to keep to himself. He often likes to spend time taking online trivia tests and having debates about various subjects, such as donald trump's presidency or certain aspects of philosophy. As a person who spends a lot of their time on wikipedia reading articles about various subjects, he is also quite the history buff, and loves to spend time reading up on the history of certain places and how they have helped shape the word we live in today. Singh also loves food, a bit too much perhaps, and has struggled with his weight in the past. He also is a huge fan of golf, seeing how he was named after national treasure Vijay Singh, and of course, loves to watch hockey, seeing how the stars of the present play the game and trying to mimic it in his game. Finally, while Vijanupatan Singh loves his alone time, he still is a social being like any other human, and on weekends he goes out with teammates/friends for a drink and occasionally, to the club.
In his free time Sami Owens watches a lot of wrestling. Wrestling is his favorite off ice hobby. He enjoys watching the WWE every week and also watching his WWE Network. During the off-season Sami Owens usually goes to a few WWE shows and tries to attend a pay per view, but if not he is always watching the pay per view on television on Sunday. His favorite wrestlers happen to be The Face of America, Kevin Owens, and The underdog from the underground Sami Zayn. He also enjoys playing video games, specifically FIFA. Sami Owens is a pretty big soccer fan, and since the MLS is a shit soccer league, he gets most of his soccer fix from the FIFA Video game. Most European Soccer is on during the day when he is training so soccer is hard to watch for him. Sami enjoys playing Career Mode with many clubs and building them up to win their leagues and eventually the Champions League. His most unusual hobby would be gardening. Sami loves planting flowers whether they are perennials or annuals. He also enjoys planting a garden of vegetables and watching them grow. He loves going out and watering his garden every day and eating the lovely vegetables he grows. Although he does not have enough time to grow seedlings.

Despite a slow start to his SMJHL career, the Detroit Falcons are still very excited about what they have in Dean Youngblood, their gifted centerman with a great nose for the net and excellent puck skills.
In this exclusive interview for the SMJHL’s weekly publication dubbed - The J, Youngblood talked about his first steps in hockey, SHL ambitions, and everyday life.
– Hello Dean, can you talk a bit about you? When did you start playing hockey?
– I started playing when I was four. I actually started up as a defenseman, then when I was about six or seven I was moved and started playing forward, which I still do.
– Did you always play in your home town, Utica, New York?
– Yes, I always played here.
– Was it hard growing up the younger brother to a former start in Kelly Youngblood . How did this experience help you in developing your game?
– My brother was always hard on me. He always tried to show me what it would take to get to this level and ultimately a jump to the SHL. I remember there was a time he taught me how to fight, which I never thought I’d need to know. Glad he did though after having to face off versus (Carl) Racki last season.
– People are picking the Falcons to be near the bottom of the standings this season after winning the Four Star Cup last year. Have you ever thought “I want to play for a better team?”
– Gosh no not at all! I love what we have going in Detroit. I mean I wish I was contributing more, but my teammates and the coaching staff have been so supportive of my early season struggles. The Detroit Falcons are a world class organization.
– Did you have any indication the Falcons were going to select you?
– No. Because I missed the showcase nursing my broken hand (suffered in the fight with Racki) I came to the draft as unknown as you could imagine. I didn’t really get my name out there that much, but I guess the Falcons took notice of what I was doing.
– What’s your goal for the season?
– Well right now on a personal level it’s to score my first goal in the SMJHL. I’m not used to being in a slump, especially one like this. As for the team, I want us to be contenders and win another Four Star Cup.
– What kind of player do you think you are?
– I am often asked that, but I always reply that it’s better to ask specialists about it. Or my coaches, they know better. The only thing I can say is that I like playing up-tempo hockey.
– Like your brother…
– Yes! (Smiles). Sometimes I try to take the game on me. Generally, all my coaches always tell me to try shooting more. My brother taught me how to get that quick release.
– What do you need to work on to become even better?
– Well, clearly finding the back of the net (laughs).
– Are you ready to play in the SHL?
– I’m not thinking much about it, I don’t like to look too far into the future. But of course you always need to be ready to anything.
– How do you like to spend your free time?
– Oh, we never have too much of it. After practices I’m always tired, and I simply want to rest. And we also often have back-to-back games. When I have some time I like to go to the cinema or hangout with my teammates.
– If you could choose, Challenge Cup, Four Star Cup or IIHF Gold Medal?
– Well, what about all three? (Laughs). Seriously though, as of right this moment I’m just focused on the here and now with the Detroit Falcons. If I’m good enough for the other two… then I’ll be ready to rock.
