Hit Efficiency
#1

Last season, I wrote an article about how Kevin Hamilton was one of the best hitters in the league despite his being a rookie. This year, I revised the formula to be more consistent with my "balancing points for skaters" formula, and, once again, a Season 38 draftee was the most efficient hitter (though, obviously, not me).

As for the process, I included more forwards than last year, setting the cutoff at 5 hits given out (which I am sure is too low and will need to be raised, but this year it worked). I then copied the amount of penalty minutes each player had from the index and subtracted minutes due to fights (since those get the opponent penalized as well). I then divided that number by 2 to get number of PKs caused by that player. I then took the number of hits taken and divided it by 20 (allowing 6 seconds per hit, a number pulled completely out of my ass) and added that to PKs. Then, I took the number of hits given out and divided it by number of PKs. In theory, this gives the best hit efficiency, so I will rank all drivers by that first.

As you can see, Bobby Watson was the most efficient on a per-hit basis. However, that method doesn't account at all for volume. Volume matters, because being out on the ice longer increases chance of penalties and chance to be hit more than chance of hitting others more. So I did a second method, this time subtracting PK from hits given out rather than dividing into them. Here's how that list turned out.

Congratulations to Coach Biz for racking up the best hit to PK difference, and also to Brandon for leading all rookies in the same. You'll notice I fell hard, from first last year to the thirties, likely due to facing significantly tougher competition this season.

Let me know if you have any questions. The full spreadsheet (1,464 cells) can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11L2...W-XM/edit#gid=0

I love these type of reports, one that highlights the peripheral stats that sometimes get over looked. Izzy is in some great company in the above list... those are some of the elite players at my position and some of the best up and comers in the game.. its great to be on a list let alone leading it with these virtual athletes.

Cheers
