There's a storm going on in Montreal about their NWJHL team, the Impact. And for good reason too, they just eliminated the defending champs and are heading to the finals. There hasn't been that one guy who absolutely dominates, instead it's been a team effort with a balanced attack from all 4 lines and all 3 pairings. One of these guys that has performed very well with the Impact is 18 year old Swede Tyler Ragnarsson. We were able to catch up with him and ask him some questions before his focus shifted to the finals.
SHL.com: Hey Rags, how's it going? Ragnarsson: Good man just enjoying some time off before the finals SHL.com: After having a great season, team-wise and individually-wise, what were your goals heading into this playoffs? R: Our goal was to make it this far and play for the chance to win it all. We didn't come into the playoffs with any other goal in our mind, I think if we thought we were just happy to be here that even if we lost in the first round or something then we wouldn't be here. Sometimes you gotta put pressure on yourself to give you that extra drive to succeed. SHL.com: Detroit Falcons vs. Montreal Impact, tell me about that series. It looked like a very gritty and back and forth series. R: It was, Detroit is a very strong team and that's why they were the champs just a year ago. It was physically and mentally draining on us but I think it made us stronger and better and I think that's what every series, even before this one, should do for us. We learned a lot from that series and that experience should definitely help us. SHL.com: You ever have anything against a team, win or lose? R: Yeah, I hate em to bits, just kidding. I don't, someone's gonna win and someone's gonna lose but it's not destiny that decides that, it's us. SHL.com: Last year in the SEL, you lost in the finals with your team. Now, going into the finals with the Impact, does that experience of losing help you in any way? R: Definitely, all experience helps me. It's crazy that I was even a part of something like that at the age of 17 and I'll never forget watching the other team celebrate on our ice. It's possibly the worst feeling you can have. Let's just say I'm not planning on revisiting any memories. SHL.com: The draft is coming up soon as well, you seem to be off the board, once again. How do you feel about that? R: Haha I dunno, I guess I was just born to be an underdog or something. Honestly, I don't care if it get drafted early or late, to just be drafted would be awesome and I'll play my heart out for that team. SHL.com: Thanks a lot for this Tyler, good luck to you and the Impact in the finals. R: Thanks man anytime. :impact:
