Preseason Experimenting Call up er nah?
#1

Good afternoon all you great people!

I had an interesting thought today randomly. Everyone experiments during preseason with the lines currently on the team, and yes there are test sims. But why don't we try and make preseason a little more like it is in the NHL?

Would it be possible to get guys from the SMJHL taking part in SHL preseason with their drafted SHL club? It happens in the NHL with guys from juniors getting their time in a few preseason games. See what they got, how they fit, what they need to do to make it. Gives guys in the J a little taste of the SHL, keeps em hungry, possibly helping prevent inactives. Gives the SHL GMs some insight into whether a guy is ready to be called up. A junior player causes a surprise and pots a goal per game to earn a spot at the big club? Of course there are pros and cons to this, some potential rule changing and creating, but it brings a little more realism to the league where we want it to be about as close as possible to the real deal.

We could set an SMJHL build once you are capped, and continue building an SHL build to continue the feeling of progressing. The SMJHL build would be locked unless you redistribute, and you'd continue to build your SHL build to be used in this possible preseason crossover, and then used once you are officially called up.

Any thoughts?

Maybe if each team had a small limit on folks they could do this with to save on the pain. I do know that some SMJHL players have wondered whether or not they were "ready," and while preseason testing is far from accurate, this would be something they could see.

I'm thinking create a job to keep track of Capped SMJHL builds. Once you cap at 350, there is a spreadsheet to keep track of these capped builds to be used in the SMJHL (unless you redistribute), then you just continue as normal building your stats on your update page instead of banking everything over 350 for your eventual call up.

Yeah we could put a restriction just to save on trying everyone out. Say you hit your 3rd year of juniors (I would assume many would be capped at your 3rd season) then you can appear in SHL preseason games with your SHL build or something. I'm not sure exactly, throwing ideas out.

It's not unheard of to happen, but when you consider the difference in where's their build would be in preseason versus when they would get called up, there's not a whole lot of testing value there for GMs. Not to mention, if the player isn't going to play up, you use up a lot of testing on trying to work out line combos with players who won't play. Also, the paperwork would be kind of annoying, for both SHL and SMJHL teams (and SMJHL GMs wouldn't be able to test preseason with said player in their lines). SHL teams would have to sit players who would play in order to fit the player into the lineup.
