TSN: Well Leshaun looks like we have a lot of catching up to do today. Four games, a disappointing loss followed up with a little string of wings. To keep this brief, I'll just ask you about each game at a time and if you could give me your thoughts on the game, your own performance and your teams performance. Leshaun: The first game was just not acceptable. St. Louis is not a playoff team right now, and shouldn't be a team we're losing games to. We got out shot again, even though it was close, we get it to a low scoring affair but we just couldn't get the job done. We let the game get away from us in the third. Lil Manius had a great third period so credit to him, his line made us pay. But some good parts to the game to, Crows scored early but e didn't let it deter us, and Quinny scored. And personally just a frustrating period continues, not generating like I know I can and not doing my part to help the team win. I need to be better on the ice. TSN: Walk us through that goal by Cullen and then give us your player of the game. Leshaun: Yeah Egger had just dumped the puck in when our line came over the boards, we had a full change. Gordie Maple picked it up in their own end to skate it out and tried to get a little break out pass which Pierre Laroche-Durocher picked off, he moved the puck over to me and I got it into the zone, I saw Quinn coming in fast on the other side so dished it over to him and he made no mistake. The best Raider tonight was definitely Durocher. 3 hits, 2 blocked shots and a nice read to set up the goal. TSN: Moving on, you had a win over the Anchorage Armada. Break down on what went right there? Leshaun: Well one thing I need to say is I don't know if we deserved to win that game. The first period was a mess, we allowed 13 shots and only got 5. Geezus was insane as he always is and we got some good luck and scored a couple. In the first intermission though we talked about it, we were on pace to get out shot 39 to 15, and we weren't going to win if we played like that, we tightened up the game from that point and each exchanged a goal and we got the win. Player of the game is obviously Crush Cile, nice goal, the game winner, a couple of assists and a big hit, great game by him tonight. Ancohorage is a team that is nipping at our heels right now so we had to win this one. TSN: And on your own performance? Leshaun: Nothing to see there, 6 games now with 1 goal and 1 assist. It's rough. I'm getting shots, but shots aren't worth anything if you don't score. TSN: On your game against the falcons? Leshaun: Detroit is a team that's winning percentage is last right now, so again, I've said it before, but great teams win games they have to win, and you have to win games like this, you can't let points slide when we're chasing teams like Kelowna and Vancouver who don't make mistakes. Had 7 shots and 2 hits so got going a bit, but I couldn't socre and am at 7 games with 1 goal and 1 assist, so that gets the question of my performance out of the way. Our game plan going in was to get a good jump on them, play smart hockey. We kept it tight, would of liked to end it in regulation but took it to the shoot out. And when in the shoot out it beomces a bit of a coin flip. We have a stud goalie we trust and he won us the game in the shoot out. My player of the game is @ViN, for potting his first career goal. Was a beauty, his line is only getting better. TSN: This brings us now to the offensive explosion against Armada in your most recent game. On a personal level with the furstrating streak you had, how big was this game for you? Leshaun: Yeah, like I said, I don't care how I'm doing as long as we're getting wins, but I was frustrated 6 games with 2 points is just not acceptable, had some pent up frusration and sort of had a chance to let it out early this game. TSN: Walk us through your two goals, less than a minute a part, early in the first. Leshaun: Tyler had just scored to give us the lead early in the game so we were pumped up, our line got out for its first shift. I lost the faceoff, and their defender tried to make a play in our zone, Quinn was there to pick it off, and moved it back to me so I could skate it up, started in our own zone had picked up some speed moving into their zone and just wired one and got a nice look over the shoulder. And it went in. Great play by Quinn. The second one was on the power play shortly after. I won a faceoff against Muhammad McLovin in their zone, passed it back to Quinn, Quinn passed it back to me and I just one timed it home. So again Quinn was huge on both those goals. TSN: Highlights of the game? Leshaun: Definitely Tylor getting his first goal was a huge momentum for us, then Pierre Laroche-Durocher getting his first on the PP, then Craig getting his first, uhm just nice to see a lot of guys scratch out the goose egg you know? So happy for them. And Vince wasting no time getting his second goal. Love seeing everyone get on the score sheet. Player of the game for me is Oliver, 2 assists, 4 shots, 4 hits, just a wild game from him. Love seeing him do it all the way he has been. TSN: Well Leshaun you guys are turning heads early this season, the media obviously wasn't expecting this, is your own team surprised with their early success? Leshaun: We're not surprised, we knew what we are capable of. We liked our chances this year. I said in the preseason, I garuntea we will make the playoffs, and I stand by that. I think the real question is is are we a top 4 team this year or not. That is more of a wait and see, but right now we're rolling, we're a good club, and I think we're chasing Kelowna and Vancouver right now, we want to be as good as them. TSN: Thanks Leshaun, good luck against Colorado. Leshaun: Thank you. They're playing well right now and will definitely be a good test for us. Hopefully we don't have to wait so long before doing this again. Thanks. 1202 words |
