Game 37: Colorado Raptors vs Montreal Militia
Raptors 4 -  Militia 1

Welcome everybody to this post game show, this matchup was between the Colorado Raptors and the Montreal Militia, both teams are very good, lets see how this one turns out!

First Period
The first goal of the game comes from Alex Winters that makes it it his third goal of the season after a pass from Katsuo Yamaguchi 5 minutes into the game, Andrew Martin later on scores for the Raptors and once again Katsuo Yamaguchi gets an assist as well as Nico Wallner, and after the first period its 2 - 0 Colorado. Colorado did receive 2 penalties this period but Montreal could not deliver during those power plays. Lets see if Montreal can comeback in the second period.

Second Period
Colorado once again scores, in the 4 minute mark Gvidas Kazlauskas scores the goal for the Raptors and near the tail end of the second the same line as Kazlauskas, Sulak O'Hritea scores making it 4-0 Colorado who also assisted the goal at the beginning of the period. Will Montreal get out of this 4-0 game?  Both Montreal and Colorado took a penalty this period but both did not score on their penalty and the Militia could have seriously bounce back if they took advantage of the PP, let's head out to the third period.

Third Period
Montreal Manged to score here in the 3rd period from Pavel Pivonka which is actually is 1st goal of the season for him. After multiple passes back and forth in the offensive zone, Mason Hudson passes to Pivonka for a beautiful goal making it 4-1 but Montreal couldn't score anymore goals afterwards and Colorado take the win 4-1. the shots for this game was 24 Shots for Colorado and 20 Shots for Montreal so shots were a bit even.

This was not Montreal's night whatsoever. Colorado took many penalties and Montreal just could not deliver on the power play, hopefully Montreal can bounce back.

3 Stars of the Game:
1 - Sulak O'Hritea (COL) 1 Goal 1 Assist 2 Points
2 - Gvidas Kazlauskas (COL) 1 Goal 1 Assist 2 Points

Week Three. Game 37. Colorado Raptors Raptors versus Montreal Militia Militia

Analysis of the First Star: Sulak O'Hritea Raptors

Colorado easily dominated the Militia in this one. So many of the Raptors could have been the first star, but it went to Sulak O'Hritea who had an incredible game with 2 points, 4 shots, 4 hits and a plethora of other contributions to the victory.

He scored one and assisted one, while he and line-mate Gvidas Kazlausksas dominated the second period. Maui played a powerful point and he and Sulak assisted Kazlausksas with a goal. The favour was returned later in the period as O'Hritea scored his 4th goal of the season and helped clinch the win for the Raptors.

Great game Sulak!

Tonight's: Was it really just a 2-min?
We look into one of Jake Reids penalties of this game

Reid had two penalties this game but this one stands out, he's in a tough battle along the boards and fails to controls his stick and whip it over the throat of the Militia player.
This could definitely ended really bad for the Militia player as the throat is one of the least protected body parts, there's no real protective gear for the throat.

This could just as easily been a major penalty as the risk of injury is high, what saves him from a major is probably the face that he's in a board battle with another militia player.

Goaltending Review:

Scottey Crawfling (Colorado): This was an outstanding performance from the Riot draft pick. Crawfling made 19 of 20 saves against a skilled Militia team to earn his third win of the season. The lone mistake made by Crawfling was on a goal by Pavel Pivonka midway through the third. Despite facing three powerplays, the Raptors keeper had a great game and limited the Militia to that lone goal. It is our belief that this was one of Crawfling’s finer starts to date in the league.

Petr Vrana (Montreal): It’s never a good sign when one team has two goalies on the review sheet, and this is no exception. Vrana had an atrocious night, making just 11 saves on 15 saves in under two periods of work. This was not a good performance from the Czech keeper, and he’ll be looking to push this out of his memory as soon as possible. You’ve got to believe that Vrana is a better goalie than this.

Khalil Anthony (Montreal): In just over a period of work, Anthony had a solid performance for the Militia. He didn’t give up any goals and almost made as many saves in that time as Vrana did over the first two periods. I would be hard pressed to believe that Anthony will get much time with how much faith the Militia coaching staff has in Vrana, but a few more performances like this for the two keepers, and that might change.

Today on Harvey's Fail of the Game, we take a look at a goaltender who had a hard time, from the beginning of the game to after his game was ended prematurely.

After letting in two of the eight shot he faced in the first period, Montreal's goalie Petr Vrana let another two in the second, with the last one at 19:36, with only 24 seconds left to the period. Obviously upset to have allowed four goals on fifteen shots for a .733 efficiency, the man who has a season statistic of .893 in that column was made even more furious by the decision of his coach to shame him and switch him right then and there with everyone in the arena looking at him instead of quietly bringing him back to the locker room 24 seconds later and send the backup once the third period started. In his rage, Vrana tried to break his stick on the boards, but even that didn't work for him...

SSPN Missed Opportunity of the Game

19:36, second period:  Petr Vrana allows four, gets pulled

It's always a sad day when a goaltender goes back to the bench, especially when their tough time isn't entirely their fault.  Colorado put up a suffocating offense with 17 shots in the first two periods.  Vrana did his best, but with only 5 shot blocks from his team across the entire game, he just couldn't stop them all.  A big goal from Sulak O'Hritea clearly got into his head, as he looked at the bench immediately for the white flag.  Khalil Anthony put up a decent showing in relief, but the team's energy was gone as soon as Vrana left the ice.

As we always say...

He's gotta want that one back!

Game 37: Colorado Raptors vs. Montreal Militia
Raptors 4 - 1 Militia
Rookie of the Game: Sulak O'Hritea

This was an absolute smackdown of a game performed by Colorado, and of course with them being such a young team many rookies had spectacular games. One such is Sulak O'Hritea, O'Hritea had 1 goal and one assists amounting to two points. If you put the fact that he also had 4 goals and four hits he had a pretty dominant game. However, an honorable mention is Gvidas Kazlauskas. Kazlauskas alos had a goal and an assist but only had three shots and one hit. So, unlike other teams this Colorado team the is full of rookies has multiple rookies performing well every night.

Do you wanna know what a happy team looks like? Then look no further than minute 13:17 in the first period of this game between the Colorado Raptors and Montreal Militia. In a game that saw a rather lackluster performance by the Montreal Militia, the Raptors would go on to win 4-1 with their win never really being in jeopardy, but he high point of the game for them came pretty early on. The Raptors were already leading on an Alex Winters goal midway through the first, when Nico Wallner found Andrew Martin with a pass and the young forward made no mistake and put the puck in the net for his very first SMJHL goal. And at this moment the whole Raptors bench erupted, much more so than for any other goal of the night, his linemates swarmed Martin and it became quite clear how happy the entire team was for the rookie. Martin is said to be one of the most popular players in the Raptors locker room and if last night is any indication, these reports seem to be very true!

The SMJHL Bust of the Game Award

This one looks close on the stat line, except for the score - 4-1 in favor of Colorado. Unfortunately, Montreal just couldn't string together enough momentum to even come close to catching Colorado in this game. The Bust of the Game goes to Montreal's Harvey Danger. There just wasn't enough out of him in this one. Trusted with crucial power play minutes, Danger couldn't add to his team's single goal early on. The game was close for a while, and a power play goal from Montreal could have tilted things in their favor. Power play aside, Harvey still had 18 minutes of 5 on 5 time, without much to show for it - minus 1, zeroes everywhere else. There's a reason a season isn't a single game, and it's a good thing it wasn't, because Harvey has much more to show than tonight's game would suggest.

Interview with Colorad Raptor's co-GM FlappyGiraffe

1. How do you generally rate team performance in this game?
Our team performance this game was very good, in my opinion. We were great defensively, only letting in one goal in the back half of the third, and at the same time managed to put the puck in the net 4 times in the first 2 periods. All around a great game anyway you look at it.

2. Your team scored 4 goals. How do you rate your team's offense?
The teams offense this game was superb, as it has been all season considering 10 rookies make up the forward group. One of our stronger games this season for sure though, as we haven't scored 4+ goals a lot of times.

3. Scottey Crawfling stopped 19 of 20 shots. Do you like his game this season?
Scottey has been awesome for us all season, especially early on while most of the team was made up of raw rookies. After getting some starts in the SHL with Seattle, he's been dialed in during this stretch run into the playoffs and  it looks like nothing will stop him from getting the Four-Star Cup.

4. Which player impressed you the most?
One player who really impressed me this game was Gvidas Kazlauskas, one of the top rookies in the league this season who scored 2 points in the second period. Surprisingly he hasn't been getting the hype that someone who has had a season like his deserves as we head into the playoffs, however in my eyes he should be a lock for the ROTY trophy after driving our first line all season long.

5. And one more question...  Your team stopped 3 of 3 Militia's powerplays. Do you like your team's game in penalty kill?
Absolutely, not much to complain about since we went 100%. The guys were blocking shots, getting sticks in passing lanes, and icing the puck effectively. However, it would always be nice to cut down on the penalties and not even give them the opportunity.

Thank you very much for answers
No problem!

Punching Bag Of The Game
Vital Kravtsov and Troy McClure III

We have our first tie of the season between rivals Vital Kravtsov and Troy McClure III. Both were hit three times, and collided with each other once, which led to a little kerfuffle in the corner, but no penalty minutes were doled out. Between the two of them, they lost the puck 5 times on 6 hits. They seemed to have tender feet out there with the puck. I know they’re going to be working on their puck handling as they head on to the next season. Troy McClure III’s new movie Die Free Or Don’t opens world-wide next week.

Montreal Militia fall in disappointing effort against the Colorado Raptors

You heard it Militia fans. Your team came out and played a poor game. they couldn't manage to get a whole lot going offensively, and starting goalie Petr Vrana just couldn't stop the puck tonight (4 goals on 15 shots before he got yanked in favour of Khalil Anthony who was perfect for the rest of the game).

The lone bright spot for the team was that they played a very disciplined game, only taking one penalty through the 60 minutes. The resulting powerplay did no damage and the Militia were able to keep the Raptors powerplay off the board.

Goalie of the Game: Scottey Crawfling
A textbook performance by Crawfling. His team put up big numbers to start the game and making things very comfortable for the rest of the game. One meaningless goal let in during the third, but all in all a fantastic night for the Colorado netminder.

Hits of the Night

Raptors Colorado Raptors - Sulak O'Hritea Raptors
[Image: H5Wf.gif]
The hit of the night for the Colorado Raptors came from right wing Sulak O'Hritea, who had an outstanding night. Registering a goal and assist, Sulak would also throw his body around for four hits during the game. The best hit of the night for Sulak came one minute into the second period, where he would level Montreal defensemen along the benches as Daniil raced for the puck. Sulak initially was set on the race for the puck, but he quickly scanned the puck and who else was racing for the puck, and decided the best course of action would be to separate the Militia player away from the puck as they gained possession. This resulted in a massive hit that sent Daniil into a spin.

Militia Montreal Militia - Daniel Daniil Militia
[Image: fraser.gif]
Montreal's hit of the night came from defenseman Daniel Daniil, who would send Philipp Winter into the Montreal bench nine minutes into the first period. After Winter chipped the puck into the Montreal's zone, Daniil would finish his check and send Winter up and over the boards and into Montreal's bench. This was one of those situations where Winter went head over heels, which can be dangerous with how sharp the metal on the skates can be. Luckily, no one was cut from Winter's skate so we can just appreciate how big of a hit Daniil made on the Raptor player. Though a bit late of a hit, it was clean and Daniil didn't leave his feet or even aim high on the hit. He just took advantage of his big frame and Winter being off balance, which lead to some fun physics as Winter's is flipped into Montreal's bench.

When you look at the three stars of the game for game 37 Colorado Raptors vs Montreal Militia. You can see why they were award the game stars. All three stars were given to players on the Colorado Raptors and rightfully so considering they won the game four to one. Sulak O'Hritea had an amazing game consisting of two points made up of a goal and an assist while giving out four hits and thus was given the first star of the game. The second star of the game was given to Gvidas Kazlauskas for his goal and assist as well. The third star was awarded to Maui for his two assists, one hit and his one shot block. Based on these numbers you can see why they were the stars of the game.
