As is tradition, season 35 saw him drafted by the Edmonton Blizzard where he would play in the SMJHL as a prospect for 3 seasons and no doubt looked to be their hottest prospect. In S37 however Izzy would be traded to the Calgary Dragons with whom he has won a cup now. As of season 42 Mike Izzy is busy attempting to win yet another cup. Izzy has played in the SHL for 6 seasons and 8 including his SMJHL rookie year and is just entering his prime now.

Tasks:

1: Shooter McGavin was born in New York, New York. The American Sniper was drafted in the second round of the Season 40 draft by the Calgary Dragons. The winger was a regular threat to win on the green grass, but after blowing a 4-shot lead in the back nine, he lost on the final hole and his temper got out of control, leading to a ban from golf. The Halifax Raiders took a chance on him, signing the raw, ego-centric 6'2 sniper. He struggled early on in his first year and ended up a -18, but he did show progression. In his 3rd year, he led the Raiders in scoring with 20 goals and 48 points. In Season 42, he seemed prime for a record-breaking season as he scored 12 goals and 25 points in just 18 games, but with controversy brewing in Calgary, he was an emergency call-up. The new Dragon held his own on the 3rd line, scoring 10 goals and 21 points, which saw him make the all-rookie team. The highlight of his year came in game 5 of the Championship Finals, when he scored the overtime winner to put the Dragons up 3-2 in the series. He became one of the few players to make the rookie team and win a championship.

2- This is an easy choice for me, and it comes from the Dragons. Casey Creller has decent numbers from the blue line, scoring 4 goals and adding 7 assists, but what makes him stand out is his league-leading 4 GWG. His biggest game winner came in the thrilling 4OT game 3 win against the Wolfpack in the Finals, where the Dragons were down 2-0 in the series and desperate for a win. Casey was also well-rounded, playing a true gritty playoff game. He had 45 hits and blocked 24 shots, which were both top 10 for playoffs. Casey was also effective on special teams, scoring 3 PP goals (4 points) and also helping the dragons kill off penalties at over an 85% rate. So, Casey may be overshadowed by other Dragons, but he does so many of the little things right, and can be relied upon in so many key situations that he has to get the recognition he deserves.

TASK ONE: In at least 150 words, write an introductory paragraph for a potential Wikipedia article about one of the players in the finals. Include draft season and the teams they have played for.

Toivo Kosonen was born June 4, 1998 in Oulu, Finland. He is currently signed to the New England Wolfpack where he plays the Right Defense position. He shoots righthanded. His height is 6 feet 3 inches (75 inches, 1.9 meters). He weighs 200 pounds and wears jersey number 33. Toivo Kosonen is known for his scoring, defense, and passing. He was drafted in S30 to the Halifax Raiders. In his rookie juniors season Toivo Kosinen won rgw Oriens Tropy and the Four Star Cup with Halifax. He would repeat the Oriens in S31 but fell short of the Four Star Cup. In S32 he was an SMJHL All-Star. That season he also won the Ron Bolt Trophy, the Laurifer Trophy, and the Quilha Trophy. He would be called up to New England in S33 where he won the Mathia Choulnard Tropghy and the Presidents Cup with New England. He would win the Challenge Cup that season as well.

TASK ONE: In at least 150 words, write an introductory paragraph for a potential Wikipedia article about one of the players in the finals. Include draft season and the teams they have played for.
Esa Anrikkanen (born April 20,1994) is a Finnish professional hockey player currently playing for the Calgary Dragons of the Simulation Hockey League (SHL). Born in Helsinki, Anrikkanen moved to North America to play for the Detroit Falcons of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) in S17, where he excelled, winning the Ideen Fallah Trophy. as League MVP. He was drafted to the Calgary Dragons 4th overall in the S18 SHL Entry Draft, and has been with the franchise since. Known for his longevity and leadership, Anrikkanen is considered one of the best SHL players of all time. He is the SHL's all-time leader in games played, is 2nd all-time in career points, and has also won four Challenge Cups (S27, S29, S32, S40). Having spent his entire career with the Calgary Dragons, he is considered a team legend, and is the career leader in goals, assists and points. Internationally, Anrikkanen has represented Finland annually in the IIHF World Championships, helping win gold medals in S30 and S37.

TASK TWO: Who is your choice for the unsung hero of the S42 playoffs up to this point? Must be at least 150 words and include at least two statistics in support.
The unsung heroes of the S42 SHL playoffs are Michael Boychuk and Nicholas Pedersen, both of the Challenge Cup winning Calgary Dragons. These two veterans had both announced their retirement from the sport prior to the start of the playoffs, and knowing this would be the end of their careers, Boychuk and Pedersen both stepped up in the playoffs, motivating their team to a Challenge Cup win. At this stage of their career, both players are asked to fill depth roles, and they did so admirably. Their numbers aren't eye-popping, but they eat up minutes and provide invaluable leadership off the ice. Boychuk contributed 5 points and 11 shot blocks, while Pedersen chipped in with 4 points, all of them goals. These two are both pillars of the Dragons organization and have been with this team all through this current period of success. Both have now won 5 Challenge Cups, moving them into a tie for 1st all time.

Oisin Fletcher. Yeah, people might be shocked at first glance given the tremendous season he has put up and how well he did in the losing effort versus Calgary, but I don't feel like he gets talked enough. He gets put in the 'really good' category for a lot of people but I think he should be regarded as 'elite'. He is clearly the one carrying New England and dragging them to the finals was nothing short of inspiring. He is defensively responsible and logs the most minutes on the penalty kill, and is very clean. Not some sort of destroy the other opposing player down the ice kind of guy, but he has a very active stick and is intelligent about defending. He is a gifted scorer, just because he didn't put u some historical numbers with over 70 points it doesn't men he did not dominate. He lead the Wolfpack and will be relied upon a lot in the near future. He has an aura about him, and I expect the Pack to make the playoffs once more.

TASK TWO: Who is your choice for the unsung hero of the S42 playoffs up to this point? Must be at least 150 words and include at least two statistics in support.
Complete

With how offensively driven the S42 Playoffs has been, it's often difficult to point out a single forward who is making an impact on an individual level.  To find such a candidate, look no further than Calgary's second line.  Hunter Jones has had an outstanding post-season, despite playing in the shadows on Joe K, Izzy, Anrikkanen, Linna, etc... the list goes on and on.

Hunter slides in as the Dragon's second line left winger and hauls in nearly 22 minutes per night, slightly below average for the team.  Although he plays somewhat sheltered minutes, the dynamic forward has been able to launch himself into second place on the team with 14 assists, only behind Joe K.  Furthermore, Jones sits among the team lead in plus minus rating with a very respectable +9 over 16 games.  If that's not enough, he's also been extremely disciplined throughout the post-season logging just 5 penalty minutes.

Complete

As most will tell you throughout the league, the future is now.  Despite all the huge names that we saw during the finals, you don't have to look too far to find newer impact players for each team.  We'll take a brief look at the next generation of star players for each team:

CGY: Ostap Maksimov - Playing behind the elite pairing of Kaiser/Augustus, Maksimov quietly had an excellent playoff run this season.  Although he scored 0 goals, he logged an equally impressive 13 assists while remaining among the team leaders in blocked shots as well.  Maksimov plays a smooth-skating game with little to no contact, which allowed him to log just 7 penalty minutes throughout the playoffs.

NEW: Manuel Gotze - Although the Wolfpack came out on the losing side, their future is very bright with Gotze.  It's rare to find a rookie logging top six minutes but that's exactly what happened here, as he fell just shy of 21 minutes per night.  He scored an incredible six goals during New England's run, good for third place on the team.  Also, Gotze is a wildly physical player as he threw his body around 57 times, second to only seasoned-defender Mia Landvik.

Nobody's place

Task 2:
My vote for the unsung hero of the playoffs would have to go to New England's rookie forward Manuel Gotze. Having an AMG of almost 21 in the playoffs of his rookie season is impressive. Even more impressive is his 6 goals and 3 assists. Not only was Gotze an important offensive asset but he played a large defensive role. He played a very physical game with 57 hits in total which is the 2nd highest on the Wolfpack's roster. The young rookie has an extremely accurate shot, converting on 17.65% of the 34 shots he took, good enough for 2nd on the team. He even managed to get into a fight during the playoffs, it ended in a draw but it could have been worse right. If there was one area where the young rookie could improve it would be getting hit by pucks, during the long road the wolfpack took he only got in the way of 3 goalward pucks. If the young rookie can keep up this pace he is in for a very promising career.

TASK ONE: In at least 150 words, write an introductory paragraph for a potential Wikipedia article about one of the players in the finals. Include draft season and the teams they have played for:

Richard Charles Hocolote is a goal tender for the Calgary Dragons, of the Simulation Hockey League. He was drafted in the S29 Season and has spent the entirety of his career in calgary. Though his name is Richard he is more commonly known as Dick. He Also tends to go by his middle initial as well so his full name as listed is Dick C Hocolate. Regardless of his parents' propensity for silly sames Dick has been a strong goaltender as he has won numerous cups with the Calgary Dragons. Dick is well known as his agency is one of the top agencies across simulation sports, representing (amongst others) King Bronko, Austin Dye and Sunny Cursed. Dick is also very well known for his contributions inside of the locker room. The Old SHL Veteran is known for playing practical jokes on his teammates, and for generally fucking around. He is a mid westerner from St. Louis and is obviously a fan of chocolate. Dick is nearing the end of his career as he is very old. 176

TASK TWO: Who is your choice for the unsung hero of the S42 playoffs up to this point? Must be at least 150 words and include at least two statistics in support.

So I know it is going to be a surprise but since it is un sung I guess it makes more sense. My unsung hero is not on the Calgary Dragons or on the New England Wolf Pack. It is a center for the Hamilton Steelhawks Angelo Odjick. Now I know what you're thinking, how could I choose someone who only played in two series? Well he was dominant in the games that he played, and additionally this is un sung so I'm supposed to choose someone a little under the radar. Odjick was excellent for the Steelhawks, and Hamilton relied on him in every game he played. Odjick lead the playoffs in plus minus (non Dragon division Tongue ) with a plus minus of 7. Additionally he was a great passer, setting up his teammates with a solid 8 assists, to go with being able to get his own with 3 goals. The generous center was also physical, averaging 3.4 hits per game and was super well rounded as he averaged 3.6 shots per game. Only Mike Izzy and Joe K hit those numbers in the playoffs, so Odjick is in great company. The guy deserves to have his praises sung for sure, even though he certainly flew under the radar. 211

TASK SEVEN: Which young player on each team will have (or, if you're doing this later, has had) the biggest impact in the Cup finals, and why? Must mention at least one player S38 or younger per team. Must be at least 150 words.

The two young guys I am going to talk about were both rookies for this season (and part of the GOAT SHL draft class of S40). These two rooks were both Right wingers who have the ability to put the puck in the net or set up their teammates. I am of course talking about the New England Wolfpack's Mario Gotze and the Calgary Dragon's Shooter McGavin. These two guys are both awesome, and were great in the playoffs for rookies. Both are known to be leaders in the locker room as well as on the ice, which is incredible for some rookies. Lets first talk about the Cup winning McGavin. McGavin made a moderate impact these cup playoffs as he was able to contribute with his passing (three assists) and his scoring (three goals) equally. Calgary didn't have him on the top two lines, but McGavin was still able to make an impact. While his impact was strong, Gotze's was even bigger. Gotze was a monster, leading all rookies in playoff points. Gotze was good at setting up his teammates (he had three assists), but where he shined was scoring goals. Gotze put the puck in 6 times, which is more than the rest of the rookies in the entire playoffs combined. That is INCREDIBLE. Gotze made by far the biggest impact of any rookie in the playoffs. 229

TASK ONE: In at least 150 words, write an introductory paragraph for a potential Wikipedia article about one of the players in the finals. Include draft season and the teams they have played for.

Shooter McGavin is an American professional ice hockey Left Winger who is currently playing for the Calgary Dragons in the Simulation Hockey League. McGavin was drafted into the SHL in the second round, 28th overall, in the 40th SHL annual entry draft, hosted in San Francisco, Puerto Rico. Season 42 is McGavin’s first season in the SHL. Prior to playing in the SHL, he played for the SMJHL’s Halifax Raiders, where he played for season 39 through 41. Unlike most player in the SMJHL, McGavin entered the league after the draft, so he was signed as a free agent, rather than being selected. McGregor is known for his skill-based, well-rounded game, boasting a highly effective shot, strong levels of puck control and crisp, accurate passes on the offense, and good positioning and strong skating on defense. Prior to his hockey career, McGavin was a highly-ranked professional golfer, though his career ended on a sad note when he ate a piece of shit for breakfast.

TASK TWO: Who is your choice for the unsung hero of the S42 playoffs up to this point? Must be at least 150 words and include at least two statistics in support.

A lot is made of the great playoff performances of the players facing off against each other in the finals, and rightly so. But, they are the definition of sung – the very opposite of unsung.
So, I prefer to look at players who gave it their all, but did not reach the big dance.
One such player is the Hamilton Steelhawks’ Noro Wozy. The Wozy family are known for their talented athletes and Noro is no exception. In a mere ten playoff games, Wozy manage an impressive eight goals, twice the next best total on the Steelhawks. He averaged 4 shots per game and shot an out of this world 20% in the playoffs. Though he is not apt to throw hits, he did not shy away from contact, taking 20 hits himself. It’s too bad the Steelhawks as a whole could not live up to Wozy’s example as a player, or they might be in the finals right now.

TASK ONE: In at least 150 words, write an introductory paragraph for a potential Wikipedia article about one of the players in the finals. Include draft season and the teams they have played for.

Kata Vilde, born November 4th, 2000 in Marstrand Sweden, is a professional hockey player currently playing in the SMJHL division of the Simulation Hockey League. Drafted in the 3rd round of the S40 SMJHL draft with the 24th overall pick by the Kelowna Knights, Vilde currently plays goaltender for the Knights. He played backup on the S40 cup winning Kelowna team and backstopped the Knights to two more 4 star cups wins in S41 and S42 making Vilde the only goaltender in SHL history to have won 3 cups in a row. Vilde was drafted 14th overall in the first round by the Calgary Dragons joining Steelhead77 who had recruited Vilde to the SHL. Vilde is also known for being the son of Professional Wresltling Legend Randy "Macho Man" Savage and is also himself an accomplished professional wrestler. It is currently projected for Vilde to spend one more season in the SMJHL before being summoned to the big club in Calgary to eventually take over for legendary Dragon's goalie Richard C Hocolate.

TASK TWO: Who is your choice for the unsung hero of the S42 playoffs up to this point? Must be at least 150 words and include at least two statistics in support.

Without a doubt the unsung hero of the playoffs is Calgary goaltender Richard C Hocolate. Dicky C is deep into regression and many would have thought this would have dimmed the Calgary chances but that is far from the case. Hocolate is playing like a superstar in his old age. Through 10 games he recorded a stellar 8-1-1 record. With a save % of .922 and a goals against average of 2.53 he has lifted an aging Dragons squad who many keep hoping is due for a collapse. If Hocoalte can keep playing like this Calgary shouls go all the way this season and even still compete next season as he has done his regression very smartly. You can have all the offense in the world but with Calgary's younger defense being used more Hocolate will be counted on to keep up his spectacular play as the playoffs wear on. That is why Richard C Hocolate is my unsung playoff hero this season.

Two young players in the finals having an impact I believe are Otis B driftwood for Calgary and Manuel Gotze for New England. The impact they are having on their teams couldn't be more different. For New England Gotze has chipped in 6 points through 12 games providing some offense for the Wolfpack that I'm not sure they quite counted on. It's pretty tough on young players to put up any type of numbers and to be able to score at a half point per game is pretty darn good for the young forward. Gotze should provide New England with even more scoring in the future making him a rising star for them. On the other hand you have Ois B Driftwood, the rugged young Calgary defender. Even though he's chipped in 4 points from the back end in 10 games he is providing the physical spark for his teammates with 25 penalty minutes including one fight. Sometimes seeing a young guy throwing his body around can spark an aging team which is exactly what it's done for the Dragons. Driftwoods offense will surely improve but to see the young man doing what he can to help his team bodes well for Calgary in the future.
