Hello Ladies and Gentlemen. I'm David Collums Welcome to my new interview show where I talk with players, coaches, GMs, etc, and give the hot questions about them. Sounds nice right? Let's get started, shall we? I guess I'll name this... An Interview with _ Now with that out of the way, let's meet our first guest... He plays for Montreal in the SMJHL and is a decent RW along with being an overall cool guy, give it up for James Truong. Truong walks on to the stage and takes a seat. Collums: Looks like you're our first guest on this show. Welcome to AIW, James. James: Glad to be on the first episode of this little show you're doing. Collums: Of course. Collums: So you've been in the SMJHL for a year right? James: Yep. One season. Collums: Huh. So it must be pretty nice to have some of that minor league experience under your belt eh? James: Definitely. I always told that the first season would be a bit rocky since I came into this without full knowledge of everything you know? But slowly as the season went on, it got easy. Collums: I figured so. Life gets easy when you keep working at something, especially if it's something like a sport. Collums: But enough chit chat, let's get into the nitty-gritty of this show. James, I have some questions I want to ask you and I want to know your answers to them. Sounds good? James: Go right ahead. After all, that's the main reason why I came here. Collums: Alright then, Let's dive right in with Question 1. Ironically enough this question actually correlates with the short talk we were having there, which is... Collums: Seeing how you're just coming off you're own rookie season I have to ask, how was it to finally step out on the ice knowing that you're one step closer to making the bigs? James: Well uh... I don't think that feeling of making it to the bigs will happen to me until I get called up and play in my first game in the SHL. My focus right now is to help the Montreal Militia win the SMJHL cup after we got eliminated in the second round in last season's playoffs. That feeling of distraught stuck with me for a while in the offseason but I'm going to make sure I improve myself as a player now that I'm more experienced with the team. My rookie year was less than desirable with only 8 PTS in 50 GP, but that is expected for a rookie playing on a contending team. They are in a win now mode and can't really afford to let rookies get top line minutes and specialty team playing time. With the upcoming season, I expect myself to help out more in the Militia and be more of a presence on and off the ice with our team. Collums: That seems like a nice focus to have for the upcoming season. It's always good to care not for if you'll make it or not but if you're able to help your team out. Collums: Next question... With all the new fresh meat coming into the league after this draft that has gone by, how do you think these new amounts of rookies for the Militia will help benefit the team? James: They will help breathe in new faces and personalities to our close locker room! We're losing Willy Mack as he's going to the SHL now and we wish nothing but the best for him. He was our leading scorer last season so there will have to be guys who step up and help produce in his absence. For me personally being a rookie was a challenge and especially on a team that is expected to compete for the SMJHL cup, there is little margin for error. But having gone through my rookie year now I have experienced what it was like and am eager to help/guide our new Militia rookies into developing into an all-around player on and off the ice. James: One thing I have to say for rookies is to focus your player attributes into Defense. This was something that I only learned midway through my rookie season but having good defense helps out in both ends of the ice! Collums: A nice tip of advice there. It's important for rookies to understand the basis of being an efficient player that can work on both sides of the puck and defense is one of those main things to becoming an all-around player. James: Yep. That's the ticket to what I'm saying. Collums: Indeed. Next question... For a player that often talks about defense being a key part of your game, you don't really seem that much of a defensive guy, what would accurately describe your play style as? James: My playstyle is a playmaker forward. My player sig is of Mitch Marner and I want to mold my game after his! The term Defense has caused a lot of confusion for other SMJHL players as well because defense is described as "Determines positioning of a player in all zones. Improves the player's ability to hold onto the puck and retrieve the puck when it is loose." I think as my career progresses I can be a more versatile player that can be depended on during clutch moments. But for now, being a playmaker is my main focus while I'm with the Militia Collums: Hm. Final Question... With this season coming back into play in a few weeks or more, how do you think you'll do this season compared to the slim pickings that you put out there last season? James: The good thing about having such a poor season, is that I have nowhere to go but up (hopefully) haha. With our loss of Willy Mack we will need others to step up their game and help produce for us. Also for me personally i have put more work into my passing, skating, puck handling, strength, scoring and defense. I am excited to hopefully play a bigger role for the Militia and help out our fellow rookies that were drafted to our team. I can't wait until puck drop and get the season underway! Collums: Same. But on that note, I think we're done here. James, thanks for coming on the show today. You were a great and pretty wise guy to bring on for the debut of this show. James: No problem man. I appreciate you bringing me on. James and David share a little fist bump, slap back handshake. Collums:But that will do it for today, I'm your host David Collums and I'll see you next time. The camera shot slowly pans out from the shot and eventually fades to black. |
